Next Newsletter
So I wrote the "short" story for the November 5 newsletter... only it turned out longer than usual. I'm thinking, should I split this in half and send it over over two newsletters...then I remembered I already wrote another long short story for the final newsletter of the year, which will go out at the end of December. So you're going to get the entire thing in one go.
To subcribe, click this link.
You should get a confirm link in your email after you subscribe. Click that and a Welcome newsletter will arrive automatically with links to previous short stories/scenes unavailable on the website (includes shorts/scenes from Psy-Ch, Guild Hunter, and Rock Kiss series).
Any issues, email Ashwini: naliniDOTassistantATgmailDOTcom
(p.s. That's Nov 5 in the US, so folks on this side of the dateline, it'll be Nov 6th).

Writing
I just deleted* 16,000 words (64 pages). Excuse me while I go sit in a corner and cry.
Update: 16,000 is now 20,000 (80 pages). On the flip side, I am much happier with this lean and mean book. Promise. Tears are past ;)
p.s. *Actually I put them in a Deleted Scenes file just in case.

Free Short Stories Update
The following previously newsletter-exclusive short stories and deleted scenes are now on my website: Home, A Sip of Eternity, Hide and Seek, Grocery Shopping, and a deleted scene from Archangel's Shadows.
A number of other stories connected to all three of my series, remain newsletter exclusive - you can access these by signing up to receive the newsletter monthly. Speaking of which, I need to figure out what special goody to put in the Nov 5 edition. Hmm... Suggestions?

Dark Horse by Michelle Diener
I have a book rec for you today. I loved, loved DARK HORSE by Michelle Diener!! It kept me up way too late last night. It's a science fiction romance with great worldbuilding and a wonderful romance between two characters I truly liked. The blurb is below and here's a link to the book's Amazon page - you can click the cover to look inside the book and read an excerpt.
Any of you already read it? What did you think?
DARK HORSE
Michelle Diener
Some secrets carry the weight of the world.
Rose McKenzie may be far from Earth with no way back, but she’s made a powerful ally–a fellow prisoner with whom she’s formed a strong bond. Sazo’s an artificial intelligence. He’s saved her from captivity and torture, but he’s also put her in the middle of a conflict, leaving Rose with her loyalties divided.
Captain Dav Jallan doesn’t know why he and his crew have stumbled across an almost legendary Class 5 battleship, but he’s not going to complain. The only problem is, all its crew are dead, all except for one strange, new alien being.
She calls herself Rose. She seems small and harmless, but less and less abou
t her story is adding up, and Dav has a bad feeling his crew, and maybe even the four planets, are in jeopardy. The Class 5’s owners, the Tecran, look set to start a war to get it back and Dav suspects Rose isn’t the only alien being who survived what happened on the Class 5. And whatever else is out there is playing its own games.
In this race for the truth, he’s going to have to go against his leaders and trust the dark horse.

International Editions & Reflections

Today was an international day.I received some German editions of one of my Silhouette Desire books - Craving Beauty. These international edition author copies appear without warning, so it's always fun to open the box and see what's inside.
Also, as an aside, while shirt dude is very nice, I still ADORE the original cover. It was an unusual cover for a Silhouette novel when it was first published, and I think it's stood the test of time.
I'd have this as a poster on my office wall if I could. (I actually do have a poster of one of my original Desire covers: Awaken the Senses. I think I purloined it from a conference when no one was looking ;-)).
And, just now, I answered a question for a reader who was asking about the Italian edition of Archangel's Blade. If you're curious to see the other international covers for Dmitri and Honor's book, follow the link, then open the Other Editions tab.I also had to find the French cover of the recent release of Heart of Obsidian, for the website.
As I was doing that last, it suddenly struck me just how incredible it is that I have readers around the world. It's a surreal, beautiful, wonderful thing that just hit me hard in the heart and brought me near to tears.
I could never have imagined this when I was a struggling writer getting rejection after rejection. Back then, the idea of seeing Nalini Singh on a book cover was just a crazy dream. The reality was letter after letter saying my manuscript wasn't what the publisher was looking for. Self-publishing wasn't even a gleam in anyone's eye, so that wasn't an option.
The rejections broke my heart, but I never considered stopping. Writing is as much a part of me as breathing. Cut me and you'll see words pouring out along with my blood. And you all know I plan to keel over the keyboard - one day far in the future, when I'm a cheerfully wizened old lady.
So to all of you who have your own crazy dreams - don't ever give up. You never know what the next day, the next door will bring. Fight for your joy.
And to my readers: thank you. Without you, none of this would be possible. I wish I could hug each and every one of you.

Rock Redemption
If you've read any advance reviews, you know Rock Redemption is an intense, emotional, angsty book. But it also has moments of sweetness and fun that made me grin as I was writing them.
Here's a quote from one scene that I love. I'm lining up some longer excerpts for you to come closer to release day!
Pre-Order: Kindle, iBooks, Nook, Kobo
(Will also be available in print. Preorder already up at Amazon. More links to come).

Rock Redemption Cover
I am so excited to share this cover with you! I ADORE it! (I also got to attend this cover shoot - I'm going to be posting some awesome behind-the-scenes pics for you in about a week!)
From New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh comes the next contemporary romance in the Rock Kiss series…
Kit Devigny could have loved rock guitarist Noah St. John. Their friendship burned with the promise of intense passion and searing tenderness…until the night Noah deliberately shattered her heart.
Noah knows he destroyed something precious the night he chose to betray Kit, but he’d rather she hate him than learn his darkest secret. All he has left is his music. It’s his saving grace, but it doesn’t silence the voices that keep him up at night. Chasing oblivion through endless one-night-stands, he earns a few hours’ sleep and his bad boy reputation.
When a media error sees Noah and Kit dubbed the new “it” couple, Kit discovers her chance at the role of a lifetime hinges on riding the media wave. Wanting—needing—to give Kit this, even if he can’t give her everything, Noah agrees to play the adoring boyfriend. Only the illusion is suddenly too real, too painful, too beautiful…and it may be too late for the redemption of Noah St. John.
EXCERPT: First chapter up on website. Second excerpt to go live as soon as my web person can put it up! More excerpts to come nearer the release date.
REVIEW COPIES: Available for request on NetGalley.

Newsy Stuff
Thank you for an amazing release week for Archangel's Enigma! I'm so glad you're enjoying Naasir and Andi's story. I had so much fun hanging out with these two (and the rest of the cast). Before I share all the other news, don't forget to swing by the blog around 10am EST/September 8th. (That's Tues 3pm/London, 4pm/Berlin, midnight Tues/Wed Sydney, Wed 2am/NZ). I'll be posting the moody, gorgeous cover of Rock Redemption.
If you'd like to read an early review of Noah and Kit's story, reviewer Marilina shared this Goodreads review with me today. This week, I'm finishing up the "secret" Psy-Changeling anthology I mentioned in this future of the Psy-Changeling series post. If you'd like to try to figure out what the final novella is about without first reading that post, check out this Instagram post I did.
As I said in the linked blog post, I didn't want to schedule the anthology until it was complete or close to complete, so I've only just recently spoken to my editor about it. More news to come, but it looks like it'll be releasing in the second half of 2016, so you'll get a bonus Psy-Changeling release next year. :-)
I'm also working on Psy-Changeling #15, my ensemble cast, family-focused book. (It's tougher than it sounds!!)
And, because I can't help myself, I'm also making notes for the next Rock book as well.
I hope you're all having an awesome start to the week. :-)

Archangel's Enigma & Newsletter & Spoiler Thread
Early copies have started popping up in bookstores, and the downloads should begin soon, if they haven't already.
I hope you all fall in love with Naasir and Andromeda's story! I had SO MUCH FUN with these two. They are awesome characters to be around.
Australian & NZ readers: You have the same release date as the US - September 1st. This is definite for print copies, so you should find it on the shelf at your local bookstore, but I'm not certain about ebooks (those may be linked to the UK download, in which case, it should start to download as soon as it turns Sep 3rd in the UK).
Plus, if you're on Facebook, there is a Spoiler Discussion Group for Archangel's Enigma. Follow the link to join. I've also set up a discussion thread on the blog at this link. Have fun chatting! :-)
Last but not least, don't forget the newsletter goes out in approximate ten or so hours, and it'll have a second excerpt from Rock Redemption. Subscribe here if you're not a member already. You should get a confirm link in your email, and soon as you click that, you should get a Welcome newsletter with links to previous newsletter exclusives, including short stories. If it doesn't arrive, let Ashwini know and she'll figure out what's up. Her email is: nalini DOT assistant AT gmail DOT com. (Replace the DOT and AT with . and @).

Rock Redemption Excerpt
Every cell in her body snapped wide awake. Lifting her eyelids, she just stared at the ceiling through gritty eyes. Her heart thumped, her throat moving convulsively as she swallowed. She hated that he could still do this to her, hated it, but her visceral response to Noah wasn’t something she could stop. She knew because she’d tried for the past two years and three months.A full chapter excerpt of Rock Redemption is now available on the website! I hope you enjoy!

Catchup and Friday Book Club
Wow, it's Friday again already! How did that happen?!
I'm off to have a hot chocolate with Ashwini and a good friend this morning, then it's back into Psy-Changeling #15. If you missed this month's newsletter, Psy-Changeling #15 will feature an ensemble cast and be a book about family, whether that family is related by blood, by loyalty, or myriad other bonds.
While I was traveling, I made my way through Ramez Naam's Nexus trilogy. This is science fiction (no romance), and I found the concepts within it both fascinating and thought-provoking. Plus, it's a great action story.
My current read is an early copy of JD Robb's Devoted in Death (out Sep 15th). It's awesome as always.

We did record the Q&A and so did a reader, so once one of the videos goes live, I'll post up the info.
Then, to top off my good mood this morning, I woke to find the Psy-Changeling series on NPR's list of 100 Swoon-Worthy Romances. Check it out - there are tons of great recommendations on the list!
Today and tomorrow, I'm holing up in my hotel room to finish the final proofs of Rock Redemption. It's already been edited and proofread professionally, but I like to do my own read before I turn over the manuscript for formatting, make sure no gremlins have snuck in.
Also, don't forget, the second excerpt from Archangel's Enigma goes up next week, August 4th.
I hope you're all having an awesome week so far. What are you up to?

(Out October 6th)
(Out October 6th)
John.

Archangel's Enigma ARC Contest
Contest now closed. Winners have been notified.
(International entries welcome)
Please note, you MUST include your mailing address in the entry. (We have to post these out before we fly to New York tomorrow, so there will be no time to follow up. Entries without mailing addresses will be disqualified.)
If you'd like to go in the random draw to win one of 7 Advanced Reading/Review Copies of Archangel's Enigma, send an e-mail to naliniDOTassistantATgmailDOTcom (replace DOT/AT with symbols ./@), with:
ARCHANGEL'S ENIGMA ARC Contest" in the subject line
AND
Your mailing address in the body of the email.
By 9a.m., 15th July 2015, New Zealand time.
Contest now closed. Winners have been notified.
Please follow the correct format for entry re the subject line, so your e-mail goes into the right in-box. (Your e-mail address will only be used to contact you should you win, and your mailing address will only be used to post out the ARC to you should you win.)
Since this is an Advanced Review Copy, if you win, we'd ask that you please post a review somewhere before the release date (September 1st) - on a blog, on Amazon, B&N, Goodreads...it's up to you, but it would be much appreciated if you'd post your thoughts somewhere. The contents of the review are, of course, totally up to you.
A note about the ARC - it's substantially the same as the final book, but since ARCs are printed prior to the final round of edits, there are some errors in the text that aren't in the final book.
- Nalini & Ashwini : )
The fine print: Contest is open internationally. One entry per household. Entries without mailing addresses included will be disqualified. No purchase necessary to enter. Winners will be chosen randomly using random.org and the ARCs mailed out on 15th July 2015. Void where prohibited.

Edits, Blurbs, Excerpts, and Newsletter Vignette
Lots of news today!I've just got the manuscript for the next Rock Kiss book back from the copy editor, so I'll have my head down for the next week going over that.
The blurb will be ready for release next week, on the 15th. Don't forget to swing by to have a read. No cover yet, but it's in progress! Release date is October 6th.
The first Archangel's Enigma excerpt is up on the website. This is the same excerpt as that which went out in the June newsletter. The second advance excerpt will be up on August 4th. Then the book will release on September 1st!I'm continuing to work on the Psy-Changeling novella anthology I mentioned last year in this post. No release date on that yet as I want to complete everything first, but I'm now on the final novella (two stubborn characters who are meant to be together and who are giving me fits! More to come once I figure out what's happening with them).
The July newsletter will be going out in about ten hours after this post goes live. I've written a brand new vignette for it that I hope you'll all enjoy. If you aren't yet a subscriber, you can join up at this link. If you join too late for this month's newsletter, or have any other issues subscribing, email Ashwini and she'll make sure you get a copy: naliniDOTassistantATgmailDOTcom
So that's my news. What are you up to?
p.s. Sorry for the missing book club last week. We're back to regularly scheduled programming as of this week!

Signed Copies & Lower North Island
I was on book tour in the Lower North Island of New Zealand last week. It was a lovely trip, with some amazing scenery! I thought I'd share some shots today. But first, these are the bookstores that have signed copies of my books. I'm sure they'd be happy to post them out across New Zealand!
Paper Plus Johnsonville
Paper Plus Coastlands
Paper Plus Palmerston North
Paper Plus Masterton
Whitcoulls Cuba St, (Wellington)Whitcoulls Lambton Quay (Wellington)
Thank you to everyone who came to my events and to the booksellers and librarians who hosted me. You made it such a wonderful trip.
~
It was a gorgeous day when we flew down to Wellington (I was travelling with Ruby, from Hachette, my NZ publisher).
I was lucky enough to have the window seat, and I was so glad for that when we passed over Mount Taranaki. The view was incredible - I took the following photo out the window.
I think that was my favorite view of the entire trip - though passing through the Manawatu Gorge comes a close second!
But before we get to that, let me show you my signing chair at the Porirua Library. Isn't it amazing?! It was lovely and comfortable too!
We passed through some beautiful country on the trip. I took the shot below from the car - the wind turbines in the distance were going at full speed, it was so windy.
The Manawatu Gorge was incredible! This photo doesn't do it justice. The big double-cab truck in the distance gives you some idea of the scale of the gorge.
I hope you enjoyed the little trip through part of New Zealand!

Roundup of News
I was on a bit of a publicity blitz for my local publisher last week - I thought I'd round up some of the links in case any of you want to check out the interviews.
~
I was on the television show Good Morning on June 4th. My segment starts at about 41.18. Thanks to Library Addict for letting me know the show is available to view internationally - you will, however, have to sign up for TVNZ's On Demand service. (Basically, register via your email).
This link will take you to the right episode. Otherwise, go to tvnz.co.nz, click TVNZ On Demand, find Good Morning in the list of shows, and choose the June 4th episode.
| At the TVNZ studios. |
Plus I was on Radio New Zealand's Standing Room Only programme. I think the audio file should be available worldwide. Just follow this link to listen - the audio cuts off a bit at the end, but you get almost the entire interview.
~
| At The Mix FM with Mel Homer (no audio available online) |
~
I also did a blog post for the Gollancz Blog, talking about five of my Favorite Psy-Changeling Moments. What are your faves?
~
Also, Kiwis, don't forget I'll be on book tour in about a week. Main cities will be: Porirua, Masterton, and Palmerston North. Please do support the events! The better the turnouts, the more likely my publisher is to do more in the future. :)
~
p.s. I just realized I'm wearing the same top in all these photos! That's because they're all from the same day. I don't think I have any shots from the second day.
