------------
This book of my heart released exactly twenty years ago today. I wrote it compulsively, obsessively, with intense love for the world and the characters, at a time when my writing career wasn’t in a great place. I didn’t know if anyone would ever read SLAVE TO SENSATION, but I had to write it.
I could’ve never imagined that I’d one day take this photo where STS would be surrounded by multiple bookshelves of books that all began with a scared Psy and an angry changeling and a world on the brink of unstoppable change.
It seems fitting that just this past week, I wrote a scene featuring Lucas and Sascha for the 2027 Psy-Changeling book. How far they’ve come!
I’m so incredibly grateful to all of you who picked up this book, and who continue to walk with me into the Psy-Changeling world. You are the reason I can do what I love, and why this world continues to burn bright.
A very special shoutout to my agent Nephele Tempest and my editor Cindy Hwang, who loved STS from day one, and have been an integral part of this journey.
Also a big virtual hug to Deidre Knight, who was the one who saw my manuscript come into The Knight Agency submission inbox way back when, and said, I have just the agent for you. Deidre, you were so right.
And to my family - thank you for being here from day dot, when I declared I was going to be a writer, despite not knowing any writers or anything about the publishing industry. You rock so hard.
Happy Birthday SLAVE TO SENSATION!!!
I’d love to hear your memories of finding STS and this series!

Alt text - Epigraph from Last Guard (Note from Dima's mother, Nova, on his behalf): Dear Canto, Attached is a drawing Dima made for you. He tells me it's of you if you were a bear. He thinks you would make a good bear. He wanted me to make sure you noticed the stars in a bear's eyes, because it's a cardinal bear. He's frowning because he didn't get your bear-sized wheelchair exactly as he wanted, but he is very proud of the rocket he put on the back-so you can "go zoom faster". He is on tenterhooks awaiting your response. Love, Nova
Dima, our favorite little polar bear.

A little bit of falcon-related news from our corner of the
world:
The Bird of the Year has just been announced and this year's
winner is the kārearea falcon. It is New Zealand's only falcon, capable of
speeds up to 200km/h.
(The Bird of the Year contest has been running for twenty
years and was started by Forest & Bird NZ to raise
awareness of the conservation threats to many endangered native birds.)
Alt text: Wild Woman Magazine "Scary but Sexy" Column with image of blue-toned book cover with man and woman's face in silhouette and image of Golden Gate Bridge in background and words Nalini Singh, Storm Echo (available now). Next to book cover text: Ivan Mercant: Telepath, 6.2, black hair, killer blue eyes and ice-cold sexiness. Here's the tea, wild women. This fine specimen of manhood has long floated under our radar. How, we do not know. The man is so hot that certain bear ladies were willing to risk freezer burn to get close to him. And it is thanks to our lovely bear readers in StoneWater that we now have knowledge of Mr. Ivan Mercant. They tell us that he attended their alpha's mating ceremony to another Mercant (covered in our special mating issue!), slayed many a heart, and left without a backward look. Oh ouch. We know you're all wondering about the scary part of this. Word is he's a security specialist - and that the bear dominants confirm they wouldn't pick a fight with him unless they meant it. Because the man doesn't play if you come for him or his. Wild Women, can we say swoooooooooon?
