THE BRIDE TEST by Helen Hoang
I had a note to feature THE BRIDE TEST in the newsletter and somehow missed it, so I shall do my gushing here!
It's an amazing book and I loved reading it so much. There is such heart to Helen Hoang's work, and such a sweet honesty too. There's also a scene that had me laughing so hard I was crying.(No spoilers, but the secret Arrow manual could've come in handy there ;-))
Definitely check out this book if you're looking for an amazing read. It's out today. Happy book release, Helen and I can't wait to read many more books from you! π

Fantasy Book Cafe - Women in SF&F Month
"...though I may tell stories in the context of shapeshifters and telepaths, archangels and vampires, the questions can be very much human. The nature of cruelty, and of love, the value of loyalty, and the pain of betrayal..."
I have a post up on Fantasy Book Cafe as part of their Women in SF&F Month, about what draws me to paranormal romance and other speculative fiction. I loved writing the piece!

Wolf Rain ARC Contest
Contest Closed
WOLF RAIN ARC CONTEST
(International entries welcome)
If you'd like to go in the random draw to win one of 5 Advanced Reading/Review Copies of Wolf Rain (out June 4th), send an e-mail to naliniDOTassistantATgmailDOTcom (replace DOT/AT with symbols ./@), with:
Wolf Rain ARC Contest in the subject line AND your name and shipping address in the body of the email (entries without names and shipping addresses will be disqualified).
By 10pm, April 9th, 2019, New Zealand time.
Please follow the correct format for entry re the subject line, so your e-mail goes into the right in-box. (Your e-mail address will only be used to contact you should you win, and your mailing address will only be used to post out the ARC to you should you win.)
Since this is an Advanced Review Copy, if you win, we'd ask that you please post a review somewhere before the release date (June 4th) - on a blog, on Amazon, B&N, Goodreads...it's up to you, but it would be much appreciated if you'd post your thoughts somewhere. The contents of the review are, of course, totally up to you.
A note about the ARC - it's substantially the same as the final book, but since ARCs are printed prior to the final round of edits, there are some errors in the text that aren't in the final book.
- Nalini & Ashwini :-)
The fine print: Contest is open internationally. One entry per household. No purchase necessary to enter. Winners will be chosen randomly using random.org and emailed on 10th April 2019 NZT. Their names will also be posted on this blog at that time. Void where prohibited.

A Madness of Sunshine
My debut thriller releases at the end of this year and I'm beyond excited to share the blurb and cover with you today! (There are absolutely no paranormal elements in this book - I want to make that clear so you're not disappointed. But if you like a little noir with your mystery, check it out.)
This GORGEOUS cover is by the incredibly talented Rita Frangie, Senior Art Director of Berkley.
New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh welcomes you to a remote town on the edge of the world where even the blinding brightness of the sun can’t mask the darkness that lies deep within a killer…
On the rugged West Coast of New Zealand, Golden Cove is more than just a town where people live. The adults are more than neighbors; the children, more than schoolmates.
That is until one fateful summer—and several vanished bodies—shatters the trust holding Golden Cove together. All that’s left are whispers behind closed doors, broken friendships, and a silent agreement not to look back. But they can’t run from the past forever.
Eight years later, a beautiful young woman disappears without a trace, and the residents of Golden Cove wonder if their home shelters something far more dangerous than an unforgiving landscape.
It’s not long before the dark past collides with the haunting present and deadly secrets come to light.

Covers Coming Soon
Some cool cover news. Unexpectedly, I have two covers near reveal stage at the same time. My debut thriller cover will be coming this week (!!) and the ARCHANGEL'S WAR cover will be ready for the April newsletter. (The GH covers generally take longer to finalize because of the artwork, and this one is just astonishing.) I can't wait to share both covers with you. :-)

Christchurch, New Zealand
Most of you will be aware of the terrible event that happened in Christchurch yesterday. So many people lost their lives and so many are fighting for theirs. As a country, New Zealand is in mourning. To know such hate could come here, to this kind and gentle country, it's shaken us all down to the core. Each and every one of us is thinking of the people most directly affected and doing what we can to help, even if all we can do is donate funds to help the survivors.
I'm going to quote words spoken by our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern here, because she speaks for all NZ when she says: "...we were not a target because we are a safe harbour for those who hate. We were not chosen for this act of violence because we condone racism, because we’re an enclave for extremism, we were chosen for the very fact that we are none of these things, because we represent diversity, kindness, compassion, a home for those that share our values, a refuge for those who need it. And those values, I can assure you, will not and cannot be shaken by this attack."
At times like this, it's hard to know what to on blogs like this, where it's all about celebrating something we love - reading and books. It can feel frivolous to talk books when such a terrible event has occurred. But the thing with terrorists is that they want us to stop doing what we love. They want to make us afraid. They want us to focus on them. We're not going to do that.
This blog will continue to run with posts celebrating what we love, will continue to be a friendly and safe place where we uplift each other. Books are a haven for many of us, and we're not going to let that be taken away by those who would spread darkness in the world.
With all my love to all of you. ❤️

Paying it Forward Recipients
Thank you all the NZ based writers who wrote in for my Pay It Forward initiative. I received far more emails than I expected, and it was incredibly difficult for me to make a decision - I wish I could send all of you to the RWNZ conference.
As it was, I crunched the numbers and decided I could send two people. Both of this year's recipients have been notified. If you aren't one of them, please do try again next year. In the meantime, I hope you continue to nurture your writing dreams, and remember - while conferences are wonderful learning opportunities, there are also small writers groups throughout the country, as well as active groups online, where you can start to build your writing tribe. ❤️

Today's question: If you lived in the Psy-Changeling world, would you rather be human, changeling or Psy? And what draws you to your particular choice?

Paying it forward
When I was a university student, my mum paid for me to go to my very first Romance Writers of New Zealand conference after we saw a little write-up about it in our local paper. I was working part time around my studies, but there was no way I could've afforded to go to the conference on my own. Attending had a profound impact on my life - not only did I learn so much, for the first time, I'd found my tribe. Other people who understood the need to tell a story, who valued the journey of the human heart and adored romances, and who spoke to the people in their head!
I've always wanted to pay my mum's kindness forward, so this year, I'd like to send one New Zealand-based writer to the 2019 RWNZ Conference, to be held in Christchurch.
I'd like this to go to a FIRST TIMER, someone who's never had a chance to attend a national writing conference but would love to go. So if you know someone like that in New Zealand, please share the information with them. You don't have to be a romance writer, but you have to respect the romance genre and the people who work in it.
Here's what I'll cover:
- economy class flights from anywhere in New Zealand to Christchurch (if you're close to Christchurch, I'll cover your petrol/parking, or train/bus costs)
- conference registration for the "Love and Other Journeys" conference, to be held by RWNZ from the 23rd of August 2019 to the 25th of August 2019, including the awards dinner
- if you're not a member of RWNZ already, I'll throw in a year's membership
- $50/day for expenses (the conference already provides morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea)
- accommodation in the conference hotel for 4 nights from Thursday 22 August to Sunday 25th August inclusive. If the conference hotel is booked out, I'll pay for any nearby accommodation you can find in a similar price range.

(You'll be responsible for making all the bookings/registrations yourself).
If you'd like to be considered, just drop me an email with "RWNZ Conference 2019" in the subject line, telling me a little about yourself and your reasons why you'd like to attend. Since I know writers like to write, try to keep it to around 300 words or so.
:) Email: nalinisinghwritesATgmail DOTcom
This isn't an official scholarship, just one writer paying it forward, so I'll read through all the replies, and choose the one that resonates most with me. I'm sure it'll be a very hard decision for me, but I do hope to do this again next year, so please try again if you miss out this year.
Dates: Emails must be in to me by Saturday March 2nd 2019 at 5pm. I'll email the recipient back by end of day March 10th 2019. If I don't hear from them within 72 hours, I'll choose someone else. Also, if you're the recipient, you can keep your name private if you wish - or you can feel free to out yourself.
Good luck.

UK paperback & Immortal Insider: Interview with Raphael & (Most) of his Seven
Update: This issue appears fixed, and I'm hearing that people's books are arriving. Please do let me know if you're still having problems and I'll ask my publisher to chase it up.
___________
UK peeps: A few of you have told me that Archangel’s Prophecy is showing up as awaiting publication on Waterstones, and as shipping in 1-2 months on Amazon UK. I’ve followed up with my publisher and been told that this is as a result of a warehouse move not going smoothly. π£The publisher is working to fix it by this weekend so the books can start shipping - I’ll update you once I get an update. I’m sorry everyone. The good news is that the ebook and audiobook are available if you don’t want to wait.
The full Immortal Insider interview with Raphael and (most) of his Seven (Venom escaped) is now live at USA Today HEA. I think Bluebell better hide from Venom. (00)

SPOILER ZONE: Archangel's Prophecy
Thread Closed
For the first time in the over ten-year history of this blog, a spoiler thread is being shut down. I don't monitor the spoiler threads, and generally run a very relaxed and hands-off comment policy, far more so than many authors. However, as it is my blog, I have a trusted friend who keeps an eye on the comments to ensure no reader is being impolite to another, as everyone should feel welcome to post.
There have been any number of highly critical comments about my books left on the blog over the years. All have been left up as I've always encouraged a vibrant discussion. I do, however, expect everyone to act like adults and to discuss the book (however critical that discussion may be), not resort to insulting me personally. Unfortunately, it appears this simple expectation of politeness is too much for some - yet regardless of this, the thread was allowed to continue. However, the lack of civility has now bled over into comments directed at fellow readers, and that is something I will not countenance.
As a result, and because I've been told there is little to no actual book discussion happening, I've made the call to close the thread. Comments have not been deleted but have been put into hibernation because no author should be expected to host such behavior on their own blog. It makes the space toxic for everyone, including readers.
My apologies to those of you who wanted a discussion space to talk about the characters and the storyline. The Facebook spoiler group will run to the end of November, and there are multiple unofficial fan groups online where you can discuss the book. I am not a member of any of them, so I can't recommend one over the other, but I'm guessing most of them have their own rules and they're probably much stricter than mine. So please go into those spaces with respect for the people who created them.
_____________________
This is the dedicated *spoiler* thread for Archangel's Prophecy and earlier books in the series. Spoilers abound, so be warned!!
Usual rules: be kind to your fellow commenters and have fun. This spoiler thread will remain active as long as the blog does, so you can join in at any time. :-)
I don't monitor the thread for questions, so if you have a Q for me, you can email me (nalinisinghwrites AT gmail DOT com).
