Movie: Monster

Last night I watched Monster. Needless to say, I was amazed by Charlize Theron's performance, but what really got me thinking was the love story aspect of the film. As a romance writer, I'm used to concentrating on the good that can come out of a relationship between two people, but in Monster we see the destruction that can be done in the name of love. Would Aileen Wuornos have continued her spree without Selby? No one can answer that, but the film certainly raised the question and made me think about the complexities of human emotion.

Any other opinions on Monster? What else has everyone been watching lately?

Nalini, I haven't seen Monster yet but I have been watching season one of Deadwood on pay-TV. On the surface this is a gritty, profane, no-holds-barred show, but then there's the understated, shades-of-grey, subtext. The fascination -- for me -- is the complexities of the characters and their relationships. Esp. between Al (the villain) and Trixie, a whore he employs and loves (not that he's accepting it's love), and Sol, the good guy who is infatuated with her. I would love to cut about 50% of the cussing but otherwise I'm loving this show.

Sounds very interesting, Bron. I wonder if I can get it on video here. That shades of grey context is exactly what fascinated me about Monster.
