What general age do you like your heroines?
20's? 30's? 40's?

And heroes?

I like them over 25 and under 40. I do read plenty that fall outside of those boundaries. Anything older or younger can stick in my mind and if I read a part of the book where the heroine's reaction doesn't fit with her age, it sometime disrupts the reading flow and glares at me. LOL!!

For heroines, anywhere between 25 and 35 is my preference. Makes it easier for me to identify with them. (I'm 31)

And for the heroes, I like them to be anywhere from 5 to 10 years older than the heroine. Now, in the case of the long-lived/immortals, they can be in the hundreds, and the older the better! Heh! ;)

Can I also put in an order for tall heroes? I just adore tall men! :)

Hey Janine! I so agree with you re the age/actions fitting. Silly heroines who can't think and are supposed to be "mature" are a personal pet peeve.

Hi Neyjour! LOL on the tall men - AB-SO-LUTELY!! I do like my heroes to be a bit older too, but occasionally I'll find a book with a younger man and ooooh, some of those are good. Any exceptions for you?

I guess it depend on the plot. I can identify better with a heroine between 24 to let’s say 36 years old, since I am 34 years old.
However there are stories that the heroine is younger and the hero older and I really enjoyed (Old enough to know better by Vicki Lewis Thompson) is one of them.
Men as soon as they are strong and sexy I can't take them up to 45 and by the way Nalini I really enjoy your heroes. I couldn’t ask for sexier heroes.

25-35, mostly.

I like the heroines over 25 ~ I'm not sure I have a limit. As for heroes, I don't have a preferance just as long as they're no more than 10 years older than the heroine. Anymore than that and it's usually a sign for me to stop reading. A

Barbara - thanks! :) One of my favorite books is about a much younger man and an older heroine. Jude Deveraux's The Invitation. Have you read that one?

LOL Emma! Even those rich alpha heroes?

Hi retheah1! Hmm, looks like that's the consensus. I've written younger heroines though. But not heroes. (ahem, double standard strikes again *g*)

Devonna - I can accept a big age difference if it's written right ie. if the younger half of the couple has something really solid to offer the older half, you know? And vice versa of course.

Thanks for the recommendation. No I haven't read that book, but I look into it. I agree with you the difference in ages can be a good thing if the story is well developed.

This is a great topic! 25-40 for me, too. In fantasy, or historical romance, they can be younger.

Yup I'm a 25-40 age ranger. For both heros and heroines.

Hey Saskia, Vivi Anna!

You know it's funny that we all choose these age ranges, given the push that "hen-lit" is getting at the moment. Do older heroines appeal?

I like heroes and heroines in the 22-32 age range. That being said, I like the hero and heroine to be close in age to each other. To me that is the most realistic.Unfortunately, most authors seem to want at least 5 years between the hero & heroine. There also seems to be some unwritten rule in romance that a hero can't be under 30. I haven't figured that one out yet. But I'm willing to read about any age if it's done right.
