December Newsletter

The December newsletter, complete with the free bonus epilogue to Declaration of Courtship has now gone out! As promised, this epilogue will also be available on the website (likely after the holidays as my website person is now on her break :-)).

teriannesis alerted me in the comments to the previous post that some email programs are cutting off the newsletter because of its length. If your newsletter just seems to end in the middle of the epilogue, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the email and you'll see a message like this: [Message clipped] View Entire Message

Just click the link and you'll see the entire newsletter.  The final part of the newsletter is a note about Whisper of Sin, so if you can see that, you're viewing the entire thing.

Happy reading!

"Grace." Softer this time. Coaxing. "Look at me."
--from Declaration of Courtship

The stand-alone ebooks for "Declaration of Courtship" and "Texture of Intimacy" (originally part of Wild Invitation) are out now in the USA & Canada!

If you haven't read any of the Psy-Changeling novellas, then Wild Invitation is the book you should get, as it includes four novellas. You can find full details of all the stories and excerpts here.

International folks - your stand-alone ebooks for these two novellas are in progress. I'll update you with a date as soon as it's confirmed.

...Walker’s eyes caught hers, held them. “I’m not likely to be an easy mate.”
--from Texture of Intimacy

She jumped. “You walk like a cat!”

“I am a cat, sweetheart.” He wanted to tease her again, so he let a low growl rumble up from his chest. “See?”
--from Stroke of Enticement (available in Wild Invitation)

"If I take you," he said quietly, "it'll be for life."
--from Beat of Temptation (available in Wild Invitation)

I'm hard at work on Shield of Winter. This is a complex story with multiple threads, but Ivy and Vasic's story is at the very core.

Picking up her favorite blades, he threw them at her. Hands snapping up, she caught them both. "I said"--spoken through gritted teeth--"I don't want to."

"And I say you've sulked long enough."

The knife quivered to a stop on the doorjamb an inch from his face.

Book Rave: The Chocolate Series by Laura Florand

You must all read these books. No really. Laura Florand's Chocolate Series is sweet and sexy and all around delicious!!

A note about the pink and blue covers: To me, they say light and frothy, and while the stories are delicious as noted above, they're also deeply emotional.

It's like Laura Florand wrote this entire series for me (because I may or may not have read four books and a novella in the space of two days *ahem*). I mean, chocolatier heroes?! Gorgeous men who fall crazy in love with their heroines and never hesitate, paired with beautiful writing? Sigh.

I'm addicted. I can't wait for the next book.

Thank you to all the RL and Internet friends who kept telling me to read this series. You were right. So, so right.

If you've read these books, what did you think? If you haven't, do the excerpts on Laura's site tempt you?

p.s. If you're looking for an affordable entry point into the series, I think you can happily start with the ebook for The Chocolate Rose ($3.99US) which while technically being the third in the series, stands very well on its own. The hero, Gabriel, is ADORABLE.

p.p.s. I recommend you have some chocolate handy while reading these books. Don't even ask me about my chocolate consumption during reading.

Archangel's Legion and Psy-Changeling #13

Today is an awesome day. Not only did ARCHANGEL'S LEGION receive a starred review from Publishers Weekly that calls the book "intense, vivid, and sexually charged", I have the okay to announce the title and blurb for Psy-Changeling #13.

Ready?

Here you go!

SHIELD OF WINTER by Nalini Singh
Coming June 2014

“The alpha author of paranormal romance” (Booklist) draws us back into her extraordinary Psy-Changeling world, a world torn between violence and peace, passion and ice...

Assassin. Soldier. Arrow. That is who Vasic is, who he will always be. His soul drenched in blood, his conscience heavy with the weight of all he’s done, he exists in the shadows, far from the hope his people can almost touch—if only they do not first drown in the murderous insanity of a lethal contagion. To stop the wave of death, Vasic must complete the simplest and most difficult mission of his life.

For if the Psy race is to survive, the empaths must wake…

Having rebuilt her life after medical “treatment” that violated her mind and sought to stifle her abilities, Ivy should have run from the black-clad Arrow with eyes of winter frost. But Ivy Jane has never done what she should. Now, she'll fight for her people, and for this Arrow who stands as her living shield, yet believes he is beyond redemption. But as the world turns to screaming crimson, even Ivy’s fierce will may not be enough to save Vasic from the cold darkness…

This Week...

So far this week:

1. I've been to to the dentist.

2. I've been to the dentist a second time. Now I'm freeeeeeeeee!! (Maybe not forever, but I'll savor the joy while it lasts).

3. Cracked the glass on a picture frame, then realized no one can tell the glass is missing, so it'll be going back up. ;-)

4. Baked gluten free red velvet cupcakes. (I used this recipe from the Sprinkles cupcake shop in L.A.)

5. Finished the last of the custard cream cookies in the cookie jar. (These are very dunkable cookies).

6. Retweeted this gorgeous image of two lion cubs.

7. And posted this quote from Archangel's Legion on Facebook. Here it is for those of you who aren't on FB. I hope you enjoy!

Kisses down her throat. "I wouldn't wish my consort to suffer ennui."

Chest heaving...she managed to say, "Ennui, yes, that's exactly what I feel right now."

His eyes glinted. "So, my consort challenges me. Very well."

- from ARCHANGEL'S LEGION: Oct 29th (International Oct 31st)

Videos taken by Tram Nguyen.

Talking about the genesis of the Psy-Changeling Series

Talking about the future of the series and of the younger characters (including Kit)

Archangel's Legion Quotes

A couple of quotes from Archangel's Legion. Enjoy! And remember, Chapter 1 is available to read on the website.

Quote #1

"Elijah has resorted to teaching me how to stab people in the eye with my paintbrushes."

"That's a really excellent idea if you always have paintbrushes at hand." Elena tapped a finger on her lower lip, her mind on the other tools of Hannah's craft. "I've seen Aodhan with a paint scraper--you could sever someone's jugular with that."

Quote #2

Galen with babies? "Impossible," she said. "Galen eating babies I can understand, but training them?"

Open amusement. "I think you miss our weapons-master."

"Ha-ha."

Friday Book Club

The Friday Book Club is now open!! What are you reading and loving this week?

I've been on a historical kick, and recently devoured Sarah MacLean's Nine Rules to Break When Romancing A Rake. Loved the "on the shelf" heroine who decides to do all the things ladies aren't supposed to do (smoke a cheroot, gamble, attend a duel...), and the scandalous hero who gets caught up in her rule-breaking (until he actually helps her do some of the things on her list). Totally recommended!

Your turn :-)

Brisbane & Chocolate

Amazing event at Ipswich Library tonight. Thanks to everyone who came and asked such great questions. A special thanks to the awesome staff and booksellers! :-)

My next event for the Brisbane Writers Festval is a Worldbuilding workshop on Friday (which I believe is sold out), but I also have two panels on Sunday, so grab a ticket if you're in Brisbane and come join us!

See the photo above? It's because my Brisbane hotel is next to a CHOCOLATE CAFE & SHOP. Yes, all kinds of chocolate. And macarons. Looking at this photo, you might think I've been very restrained by only buying two (raspberry and chocolate), but you see, I plan to taste test two every few hours. Have to go through all the flavors (including peanut butter!).

I've just sipped the hot chocolate. It's so thick it's like drinking melted chocolate. Nobody contact me - I will be in a chocolate coma for the foreseeable future.

Please share. :-) I have some good news for Kindle readers - it looks like Amazon.com is discounting the Psy-Changeling and Guild Hunter series (including ARCHANGEL'S LEGION) down to $5.99!!

If you've been hesitant about starting either series, or waiting to complete your collections, this is a good chance to get the first books at an excellent price. Have fun!

(Apologies to international and non-Kindle folks unable to get this deal. This is a bookseller promotion (Amazon), so I can't control it - but keep an eye on your own ebook seller. Sometimes, they'll match prices.)

I have a post up at the Read A Romance Month site today, talking about Hope Even in the Darkness. Swing by and have a read, share your thoughts.

ARCHANGEL'S LEGION ARC CONTEST - WINNERS

And the winners are: Mariel S., Cornelia S., Edlyn M., Rebecca H., Colleen W.

Winners have been notified via the email address used to enter the contest : )

Reading & Writing

I'm working on the first draft of Psy-Changeling #13 (Vasic's story), and he's making me a little crazy. So difficult to get him to talk!

In other news, I opened up Whisper of Sin to check something tonight and ended up reading the whole novella. I adore Emmett and Ria. This particular exchange between Emmett and a young Dorian (the story is set a few years back) made me grin.

"Sooooo...what happens if I flirt with Ria?"
"I use your ribs to make a wind chime."
"That's what I thought."

If you haven't read this novella, it'll be available on its own in electronic format in March next year. It's currently available as part of the Burning Up anthology, which is completely awesome and includes one of my all time favorite novellas by Meljean Brook - "Here There Be Monsters".

It's now after midnight and I feel like a little more reading - hmm, what to choose (not that I don't have a towering tbr pile!)

What are you up to?

ARCHANGEL’S LEGION ARC CONTEST

CONTEST NOW CLOSED

If you'd like to go in the random draw to win one of 5 Advanced Reading/Review Copies of Archangel’s Legion, send an e-mail to naliniDOTassistantATgmailDOTcom with:

- "ARCHANGEL’S LEGION ARC Contest" in the subject line; and

- your mailing address

by August 26th 2013, 8pm New Zealand time.

Please follow the correct format for entry re the subject line, so your e-mail goes into the right in-box. (Your e-mail address will only be used to contact you should you win, and your mailing address to post out the ARC if you win.)

Since this is an Advanced Review Copy, if you win, I'd ask that you please post a review somewhere before the release date (October 29th) - on a blog, on Amazon, B&N, Goodreads...it's up to you, but it would be much appreciated if you'd post your thoughts somewhere. The contents of the review are, of course, totally up to you.

A note about the ARC - it's substantially the same as the final book, but since ARCs are printed prior to the final round of edits, there are some errors in the text that aren't in the final book.

-Ashwini : )

The fine print:
Contest is open internationally. One entry per household. No purchase necessary to enter. Winner(s) will be chosen randomly using random.org and his or her name posted on this blog on 28 August 2013. Void where prohibited.

Also at the same Dear Author link is a giveaway by Julie James, whose books are AWESOME, so enter that too! (All of the contests have different rules, so just look at terms and conditions to find out if it's international or not).

Have fun :-)

Pakt der Sehnsucht

German readers, don't forget Cooper and Grace's story is now out as an ebook ("Pakt der Sehnsucht").

For those of you who prefer the paperback, this story will be out in an anthology in October, along with two other novellas: ("Geheime Versuchung") :-)

I hope you enjoy!

Ebook Covers: Declaration of Courtship & Texture of Intimacy

Two gorgeous covers for you today! These are for the ebooks of Declaration of Courtship (Cooper/Grace) and Texture of Intimacy (Walker/Lara).

Both were previously published as part of WILD INVITATION, which also includes Beat of Temptation (Nate/Tamsyn) and Stroke of Enticement (Annie/Zach).

So, if you'd like to read all four novellas, the anthology is the better choice.

Otherwise, you'll be able to grab these two ebooks separately in November. :-)

Website Maintenance

The website may be down for a little while this weekend as we (hopefully!) finish all the work we've been doing on it. Nothing will change in terms of content - we're just trying to make it more friendly for all the different devices (computers, smartphones, tablets...) everyone's using to access it. :-)

I'll let you know when it's ready for beta testing! Until then, if you see something wonky, don't worry, my web designer is probably still putting everything in place. Thanks for the patience!

Book Recommendations

While I was on book tour, I was asked to post more about what I'm reading and would recommend, so here I go!

First, a link to the Dear Author's (international) giveaway of Meljean Brook's Guardians backlist. The seventh and final book in the series, Guardian Demon is out in August, so if you're looking for a series that is complete, this is a fantastic one!

Meljean even as a "Story So Far" primer if you want to dive straight into the awesome final book,  but I'd recommend reading the whole series - why miss out?! My favorite in the series is probably Demon Moon, but I've loved the entire series. (If you click on Meljean's name in the tags at the bottom of this post, you can see my posts about her series over the years).

The second recommendation is for Jessica Clare's Beauty and the Billionaire. I had to get this as soon as I heard the words "virgin billionaire hero". *grin* There's also a beauty and the beast theme, with the hero having scars that have caused him to withdraw from life, but our beauty is a pajama wearing ghost writer who isn't afraid to go after the man she wants.

It's a fun, sexy story that I inhaled in one sitting and one that left me with a smile on my face. And, it's only $2.99, which is a steal.

Hope you enjoy these books if you decide to try them! And if you've already read them, please share your thoughts. :-)

Photos: Chinese Lantern Festival

I've been going through my photos and I found these from earlier in the year. The lanterns seem to get more amazing every time!
