Heart of Obsidian Blurb

HEART OF OBSIDIAN
June 4th (North America), June 6th (International English), June 13th (German)

Step into New York Times bestseller Nalini Singh’s explosive and shockingly passionate Psy-Changeling world…

A dangerous, volatile rebel, hands stained bloodred.

A woman whose very existence has been erased.

A love story so dark, it may shatter the world itself.

A deadly price that must be paid.

The day of reckoning is here.

From “the alpha author of paranormal romance” (Booklist) comes the most highly anticipated novel of her career—one that blurs the line between madness and genius, between subjugation and liberation, between the living and the dead.

A Note and A Request

I'm guessing you all understand why this blurb doesn't mention names. Some questions, after all, are not ones you want answered in a blurb, especially when the journey to the answer is going to be part of the experience.

That journey is going to involve secrets, darkness, surprises...and scorching heat. Only three months to go!

Also, I have a request that I hope you'll support. If you get hold of any spoilers or *any* advance intel for HEART OF OBSIDIAN, I'd like to make a request that it not be posted in public until the release date. In a private group, forum, email etc, I'm not worried, but I'd hate for someone to accidentally stumble onto a spoiler on Twitter or on Facebook, or in the comments to this blog, for example.

As there are spoiler-lovers, there are spoiler-avoiders, and from the tweets and emails coming my way, I know the latter are really hoping to go into this book without knowing anything other than the blurb. So please be kind to your fellow Psy-Changeling fans and make sure any spoilers are clearly marked, and posted in places that a reader would have to specifically visit in order to read the spoiler.

As always, there will be a spoiler thread on this blog after release date, where you can freely discuss the book.

Thank you in advance from an author who is SO excited about this book, she's wishes the release date was tomorrow! I CANNOT WAIT to discuss it with you all. Even if you think you've guessed what's coming, I think you'll find yourself surprised more than once!

In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy the WILD INVITATION anthology!

Not a let down for me, in the sense that I'm pretty sure who it is about.

Refraining from speculating it's going to be hard, though.

I wish the publishers had not posted that blurbish thing posted before the actual blurb (quoted in the cover reveal thread) though, because that did give away what this one is trying to obscure.

Ah well, what's done is done.

Anonymous said...

Well, honestly, that was a bit disappointing. All that build up (I even set my alarm to wake up at the time the blurb was released) and there's absolutely nothing that I now know that is new. I was pretty obvious who this story was going to be about, especially after the cover reveal.

I feel like you're losing touch with some of your reader base.

Yes, there are some people who avoid spoilers like the plague; there are also people (like me) who use small reveals to fuel their continued excitement over a series. Why couldn't you have put up two different links; one for those who NEED a *small* reveal (I'm not asking for a plot synopsis), and one for those who absolutely hate them.

Between this let down and the disappointment of Amazon charging $7.99 for what is, essentially, two short stories for my Kindle.. eh. I hate being disappointed and that's all I've felt today in regards to your books.

mell61 said...

Hmmm, just finished Wild invitation, so if you need any help with ARC copies of HofO, I've space in my 'to be read' pile of books!
Hmmm, who can it be...?
Speculation, imagination and desperation of the answer!

lia said...

I don't get it. What was the point of keeping the cover hidden and delaying the release of the blurb when it doesn't reveal anything? Why bother? Just tell us it's a secret and we'll have to wait until the book comes out. That way we aren't disappointed each time something is revealed and doesn't have any new information.

Congratulations Ms. Singh, you've successfully made me jump to my computer and check your blog at 12:30EST twice now, but no more.

Anonymous said...

On one side I'm disappointed. I had hoped at least for a name. On the other hand..... with what's been posted now I can speculate who the protagonists will be and the excitement about that negates the disappointment about the lack of names. Time to read back over my Klues... erm, clues. :)

Drucilla said...

No way... No names? really? I wait and I not have a answer clear. But only because I love you, and your job, and your way to write, and all of you... I wait a little more time :D

I'm excited! and my mind work hard to find the dangerous rebel XD

Anonymous said...

I too am disapointed. All this fuss and nothing. The "big reveal" is in truth the big tease. That said I will still devour the book upon release and I am now off to look for clues and spoilers. ;)

Anonymous said...

Allright I'm really disappointed. We still have to wait for three months and now we don't even get a blurb with some names and hints for the story? I'm starting to ask myself why I still read your blog ....

Pia Winther said...

As I'm one of those how avoid spoilers like the plague thank you for this.

I once had a otherwise great trilogy ending spoiled by a reviewer who forgot to spoiler warn a review. I ended up knowing what but luckily not how. But it still ruined the reading experience some what.

I'm very much looking forward to this book and I hope that I can remain spoiler free.

Especially being a reader from Europe buying the UK version of the books this can be very challenging. Since the release is usually delayed.

That part about blurring lines between madness and genius...I can't wait for this book. I'm not disappointed, to tell you the truth, I think it should be a secret 'till it comes out...My most anticipated book of 2013.

Oh my.....just finished Wild Invitation and saw this. Theories...theories....theories....and I feel like kid waiting for a Christmas countdown!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I'm also a bit disappointed. I'd hoped the big reveal would've actually revealed something, but instead got nothing. Getting a bit sick of being fed crumbs... :(

Anonymous said...

Well, this was disappointing. I'm also not in the anti-spoiler league, so a little more info wouldn't have hurt me and my excitement.
Why bother with an extra blurb reveal when there is not much to reveal? If it is a secret and we have to wait, then we wait. But this is disappointing.

Anonymous said...

That's just mean, Nalini. I just wanted a name... now I'm disappointed, but I will wait, just stop teasing us when you don't intend to give us anything, please

Anonymous said...

I share the sense of disappointment, because we were led to believe that we would get SOME kind of crumb of information with the "reveal." I understand wanting to avoid spoilers (though this seems pretty extreme) - but in that case, why drum up so much anticipation for the blurb? It says nothing at all! Just say that from the beginning! I expected to at least find out something about the heroine. I'll be less likely to pay attention to reveals with this kind of bait and switch tactic.

Sej said...

Actually reading the blurb, you can pretty much guess who the book will be about. The clues are there if you read the books and that is her point. Think about it. I know who both the hero and heroine will be. If you read the last book, all points towards them.

Nanik said...

After all this countdown I hoped this will be a bit more information :/ Unfair.

So... I have to wait for June.

Tori said...

GAH!!!

Well, part of me is disappointed but part is relieved. I always look for spoilers then get mad because I looked. lol

I have to admit, I do like the line..."the day of reckoning is here."

You can never go wrong with a good old fashioned reckoning!

Unknown said...

There's a lot of hate about not revealing the leads that I feel is undeserved. It's entirely Ms. Singh's prerogative to NOT reveal anything about this book. We're already such a spoiled fanbase anyway (cut scenes, short stories, quotes posted to facebook, ARC giveaways) that I think it's perfectly okay for her to be a little cloak and dagger about this book, especially since it's the beginning of a completely new arc in the Psy-Changeling saga that will define subsequent books.

Be patient and let the anticipation stew! I'm excited since she's so excited. There's a likely a very good reason she's keeping it so hush-hush and I trust her implicitly with her publishing decisions since she will always be my favorite romance author.

Anonymous said...

It is her prerogative to tell us nothing at all, absolutely, but then she should not have heavily implied that the blurb would reveal anything at all. It feels like marketing to me, which I understand is part of the publishing world, but still disappointing.

@Kassie: I don't think it's hate, it is merely disappointment. I can understand that very well. I too was disappointed to be honest, I had expected a little more information. Many people were very excited because of the way it was announced and that secretivity rose their expectations for the blurb reveal. So yes, I understand the disappointment.
I would also have liked to get a little more information.

Nevertheless, I am very excited about Heart of Obsidian!

Unknown said...

I understand building up for a big release, but all this big reveal with no actual inforation offered runs the risk of alienating fans. I was disappointed after the cover reveal (although it is a very nice cover) because I had mistakely assumed we would also get a blurb. I almost posted then, but didn't, because I did not want to be a negative nellie and it was revealed that the blurb would be released in March. Then I excitingly wait for this?! You cannot build up expectation then deliver nothing. I am still very excited about the actual book, but at this point I am starting to worry that I will again be disappointed. If you are not actually going to reveal any information, just say so. I understand balancing the line between spoiler fans and non-spoilers, but counting down to a big reveal builds expectations that were false. Truthfully, if Nalini's writing wasn't so fabulous, this would be enough to make me turn away from an author.

Parroting what someone else said earlier, I also don't really appreciate paying full price for a book that contains two short stories I already own.

Still excited overall for the book, but I am done following these so-called reveals.

Unknown said...

Soo not disappointed.:)
The blurb definitely reveals all, it's so obvious.
Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!!
Can't wait for June! The best B-Day pres to me ever!!!!

Unknown said...

'Hate' is just a general term--I'm using it more colloquially, like 'all these h8ters b getting us down'. I don't really see any difference in the way she announced this book/blurb than in the past, except when it was finally revealed there wasn't much TO reveal.

But hey, I personally have a mixed relationship with spoilers (or reveals or however you want to call them). On the one hand, I am always SUPER excited to read every little word of information about an upcoming book. But on the other, when that book is released, there's always a sense of familiarity with it (which isn't bad, per se) or the whole 'wait, this is no surprise since I already know what is going to happen'. For this particular book, I am completely okay with the secrecy and anticipation because we really don't know where Ms. Singh is going to take this one. And I don't really want to know until I can discover it myself.

But this is just me, and I understand those that are expressing your frustration. When I first glanced at the posts, they were more negative than positive and I really didn't think that was fair.

Anonymous said...

$5 says all the people claiming to know who the book will feature are bluffing!

Anonymous said...

Perhaps you are right and the frustration is not fair, but the blurb was revealed an hour ago or so. It's still fresh. Most people will get over their initial frustration. I certainly will ;-)
Normally, I like spiolers very much but the reactions got me thinking. I will a least try to stay clear of spoilers, but I doubt that there will be many this time. Perhaps Ms. Singh can't tell more because this would really ruin the reading experience. And for all that I like spoilers, I don't want my reading experience to be ruined. So that is how I will be looking at things until the release date.

Unknown said...

Exactly, that's where I'm at on the whole thing. There is obviously a reason that she's withholding information about this book when she is so open with her others. Like I said, I trust her implicitly, and if the author feels that this is the best way to present the material then I am absolutely on board with her.

Super excited too! :) I hope I didn't step on anyone's toes with this, it's really the first time I've posted and was trying to be as diplomatic as possible (and not start any internet wars!).

Anonymous said...

Am I disappointet? - Not really. (KoS was for me the most anticipated book ever. I think it`s pretty hard to top this).
Also I think this second reveal hype was unnecessary, because now we´ve still nothing to speculate. I loved that a lot... But without a few crumbs it´s a l-o-n-g waiting till June.

Seems that this book is the first of this series that I´ll read (because I´m a big fan) without a (pre) clue about the story/hero & heroine. Does that bother me? - Yes, a bit. (Normally I would not by this kind of books).

Anonymous said...

I am personally disapointed because I feel that I was going to be given some info and I feel that I wasn't.Yes it is totally up to the author what she does or doesn't disclose, but to tease her fans and not follow through with that was, in my opinion, mean.
Of course this is a personal opinion not the collective one and everybody is different.I love spoilers as to me it builds my anticipation and as am UK reader I make an extra effort to get the US editions of her new releases on release day, but again thats just me. It hasn't put me off her books, I can't imagine what would, but I do think i'm through following her blog like I used to.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps the words Partial Blurb Reveal should have been used in previous blog posts - to lessen the excitement and subsequent crash.

Am I still a fan? Yep. Am I going to buy the book? Just try and stop me :D Is the world going to end that I don't know who it is about? No . . well maybe a little bit . . *sob*

Wanders off blog kicking toe in dirt

Anonymous said...

I've got to say that I am really disappointed. This is some BS. As much as I love your books, I rarely frequent your blog-yet found myself checking it twice, for the cover and now the blurb. The cover is great but the blurb? Color me underwhelmed. Sure it gives me more clues to speculate on who the H/h are but I've been doing that since HOO was called "Psy-Changeling #12."

*sigh* I follow both this & the Guild Hunter series religiously. But after this? After capitalizing on our anticipation and excitement just to let us down (which seems like an obvious ploy to make new fans & money)? My interest in PC has plummeted. I don't usually buy hard back books because they're so expensive & I'm on a strict budget. But I was willing to dish out $$$$ for HOO. Now? I won't be buying HOO. I'll check it out from the library for free, thank you very much.

Unknown said...

@anon--I'll admit I probably jumped the gun a bit in my defense of Ms. Singh and looked over the discourse side of thing that provides feedback about a release such as this, one that is quite different from the norm we are all used to. My primary goal was just to say that there is a reason for doing so; I may have gotten caught up in the persecution of the 'negative' posters (and you're right, even they are very polite in their comments) and for that apologize.

I can't wait! I am pretty sure this book is about Kaleb and possibly Sahara (Faith's cousin) that went missing 6 years ago. :D

I'm a little bit dissapointed.
I thought there would be a little bit more info in the blurb or at least a quote from the actual book after all this built up tension in the last days...
now i have to wait for 3 month...frustrating.
I guess who the hero of the book is is but her?

azteclady said...

Leaving the whole Heart of Obsidian blurb disappointment/whatever to the side...

Why are people complaining about the price vs content of Wild Invitation? At no point was it hidden that two of the four novellas were reprints from previous anthologies, and it was a free choice to pay, or not, the full price to get the two new ones--how is that now a problem?

Did anyone thought they were entitled to buy only the two new novellas or something?

Was anyone forced to pay full price to buy something?

I just don't get it.

Unknown said...

@azteclady In my earlier post, I was not accusing anyone of misleading on the nature of the book. I knew before I purchased the price and that half the book contained stories I had read and owned already. But I was very excited to read the new stories and they were very good, but also only about 200 pages. I am not complaining about the quality but for other authors and other books, I would never pay $8 for two short stories. The publisher is taking advantage of Nalini's popularity. I certainly fell in line and paid the price, but I do not have to be happy about it. I am sure Ms. Singh has little control over the price, so my ire was not directed at her.

Anonymous said...

YES! It's about the person I was hoping it was! Thanks Nalini - I can hardly wait to buy it!

Gee all that hype for NOTHING! Not very impressed! All I can say is this book had better be "explosive"! Or I think Ms Singh is going to be in a lot of hot water.

i can not believe some of the comments i have just read.

Are you for real some of you, I loved the Wild Invitations book,
i can now read 2 of my favorite short stories and now have 2 more that i loved as well and can read
them on my kindle. and the blurb if you don't get it go back and read the books again. I know i
miss alot of things when i read like a in the book Magician by Raymond Feist a main character
looked like an African tribesmen and not blue eyed and light brown
haired like some of the other people in town. If you have read his books you would understand
that that is sort of a big thing in one of the book plots. So yes i miss stuff too but i under stood this.

Unknown said...

The thing about countdowns and hype is that you're expected to deliver at the end. Maybe I'm wrong, but this just feels like so much marketing. You don't need a countdown for a blurb, if the blurb isn't going to reveal anything. That's just false hype and a few extra blog hits.

I've always enjoyed your blog and love the books, so I'll continue to read both. But this was unnecessary.

Susie said...

Too much negativity from fans. That is just sad.

I am just enjoying the ride. Can't wait for the newest book. Thank you Miss Singh effort a wonderful series. Love you!

Wow I am disappointed. I slipped out of a training class at work at 12:30 to read the blurb.

Sara said...

I was disappointed not to get more information. The countdown to the blurb seems misleading. I enjoy the psy changling books but I am starting to enjoy the blog a lot less after the cover and blurb reveals.

azteclady said...

For those complaining that the blurb does not indicate at least one of the protagonists: if you read the last chapter in Tangle of Need, you can find out there. The name of the other protagonist is up in the air, but that person's identity (at least in relation to the first one) is pretty clear in the blurb as posted here.

(In other words: we not full of it :-p )

Cassandra, I understand that you "also don't really appreciate paying full price for a book that contains two short stories I already own." But I have to wonder at complaining about it at the author's blog--the packaging and the pricing are at the publisher's pleasure.

And in a one author anthology, how long can one expect each individual story to be?

I confess that I wanted/had hoped for more in the way of a blurb, but can't say I'm surprised at how vague it turned out to be--as I said earlier, the one that the publisher put out a couple of weeks ago (quoted here) made the putting of any names in this one a sure-fire way of spoiling the whole reading experience for anyone who is even remotely spoiler-phobic.

For people like me, who are truly and to the bone allergic to spoilers, part of the thrill of finding the answers to some questions has already been spoiled (partly because I've read and re-read the books so often and am so freaking nerdy about details and world building and clues).

Do I wish there would have been one reveal with both blurb and cover, and be done with it? Yes. Do I blame Nalini for how it went down? No--mostly because I've observed that authors rarely have power over when these things are actually final--covers get last minute changes, as do blurbs, again, at the pleasure of the publisher.

Anonymous said...

I remember Nalinibsaying that the cover and the blurb were designed not to give anything away. And I must say they did a great job :-D

Since I never expected the blurb to contain any obvious clues, I am not disappointed. But I am reeeeeaaaally curious and waiting til June is akin to Torture!

Anonymous said...

I was disappointed with the blurb for like a second and a half and then the excitement hit. AGAIN!! I just can't wait for release day, goodness I thought I was excited waiting to read KoS, I don't know what has come over me. Currently re-reading all the books and making notes about certain characters who I suspect will have a large role in this book, I think it will help beat down some of the excitement. I only discovered this series back in October and addicted does not even begin to cover it. EXCITED!!!!!!

Dianne said...

Wow some of the comments. While I understand having a certain degree of frustration, at the end of the day it's not that big of a deal, the end product is all that matters to me and these teasers are just keeping me on my toes because while I was hoping that the names would be revealed, I'm now more excited about this book than ever. A workmate and I are having too much fun trying to guess who it will be, and while we could be waaaay off base, I think the chances of that are slim ha ;) June couldnt arrive quicker becasue this is one book I have looked forward to, well, since Tangle of Need ha

I just hope that the paperback NZ/UK cover gets released at or near the release date of the hardback.

Thank you Nalini for the cover and blurb, I appreciate the mystery. Im usually one of those people who search and search for any and all spoilers and totally ruins the experience, so you saved me from myself. For the time being, I hope that my copy of Wild Invitations arrives soon, cos OMG I want to read Cooper and Graces story now! :D

Anonymous said...

Can't wait Nalini!! :)

Anonymous said...

I can understand some of the frustration surrounding the blurb release but personally I feel that it was right for this particular novel in this series.
Would I buy a book with a blurb like this normally? No. But this is a series that I absolutely adore and there has been such mystery surrounding the identity of the Ghost and the missing woman that I think the anticipation is exciting.
For those of you saying that you're not going to follow the blog anymore, you may miss out on a chapter excerpt or quotes closer to the release date, that I'm looking forward to regardless of whether names are excluded or not.
I also love the fact that people who come across this series in years to come still have a chance of experiencing the mystery and anticipation of finding out who these characters are. Blurbs for on-going series often are full of spoilers, one of my personal pet hates.
About anthologies, I actually prefer to have all the stories from one of my favourite authors in a single collection rather than having to buy 4 different books for only one story I'm interested in. I wish Berkeley would release anthologies for Meljean Brook's two series, I'd buy them.

Not disappointed like some of you seem to be only happy that I can speculate madly. (Some more.) And I'm fairly sure I know who it's about.

I am disappointed about the big hoopla over nothing. Like folks before me have mentioned, on big reveal with cover and blurb would have been better. I think your publishers have lost sights of your readership...I was more vested in Hawke and Sienna than in anyone else and I knew they would end up with each other. I still bought 2 versions of that book!!! Secrecy is not a reson that people buy romance novels - it is because they are vested in the characters and want to see their struggles as they try to find happiness....
VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

Nalini, this 7 of march is my birthday. Only suggesting, wishing, and hoping, can you give me a little-tiny-small spoiler of Heart of Obsidiana, as a gift, please? *Puss on boths face*

I am feeling a little cheated because I love finding out who the main Characters will be, reading little quotes and a teaser chapter before a book comes out... To me that makes waiting much easier and it is part of the fun...

But still - I am so very excited!! And I do hope, no matter who the hero and heroine will be (Vasic? Kaleb? Aden? Sahara, the swan changeling, Alice???) I am very much looking forward to reading HOO.

pleeeease let There be lots and lots of moments with our favorite crime fighting psy-duo Aden and Vasic!!!

Hello everybody,

for some of you - What did you expect? A blurb that says "and the Ghost is.... Tarzan"? For me, and I waited for the blub too, it would have taken the fun out of the waiting for the book. I like the blurb! Wohoo! 3 more month of speculating and as I read the english version, one week of torturing everybody else waiting for the german version with " I know I know...." :-)
For Wild Invitation: LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. More of it!!!! Nalini always mentioned that while it will have two new stories, there would be two already published stories - so why the surprise???? The two new stories will be releases as single books sometime later this year - as I understand the blog. So the decision is only to buy now, with the other two or later, eventually cheaper (I doubt it....) as single titles. (and maybe with a other cover)
Just checked my calender - still three month to go....
Sunny greetings from Germany

I am disappointed only in that this blurb confirmed my theory of who the book is about. I am really not that interested in this character anymore and find many other possible protagonists much more enthralling. The rat alpha, for example, is screaming for a story!!!! I have been disappointed in the choice of main characters since "Tangle of Need." The choice here feels very predictable. I will enjoy reading it, but wish Ms. Singh would return to some of the fundamentals of the beginning of her series.

Anonymous said...

People are not being "negative," they are being critical. It's ok, it's not bad. People are allowed to have their opinions. And everyone needs to realize that is the false hype that is the problem, not the lack of spoilers. If Nalini has said form the get-go that not one bit of info would be revealed and hadn't put up this big count-down to a revelation and made a huge deal about the blurb, I would be perfectly content. But I feel lied to. I understand wanting to defend an author you love, but they do make mistakes sometimes, you know (*cough* Gena Showalter *cough*)

Anonymous said...

The cover is great, the blurb is really a nothing blurb. The mystery of who the couple is seems contrived. I think a silly decision has been made by publisher and author. As someone else said, I've always loved knowing who the next anticipated couple will be and wondering how it will all play out. That doesn't stop me buying the next book or be less excited unless it's a filler character. I do find authors being coy really off putting and that puts me of buying the book.

Amy said...

I agree with the last two comments (and the many others here that echo the same sentiments). This was a big disappointment because of the contrived nature of the marketing. I felt I was led to believe I'd get something worth a "reveal" -- instead, all that hype for nothing. The nothing would have been fine if that was simply stated in a post. But now this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I know I'm going to distrust future hyped up posts on this blog.

Anonymous said...

oh God! That cover! Makes my heart race.

Anonymous said...

My guess:Alice and Aden.

Anonymous said...

Was the blurb reveal a little disappointing? Yes. I had hoped for more. That said, no matter how much a blurb reveals, it's the actual book I want in my hands asap so to my thinking the HOO blurb just leaves me lots of room to speculate till June. Nalini Singh is a great author and I'm going to buy her books no matter what spoilers, or not, I read before. I like her countdowns because she actually gives you something, a quote, a hint, something. She gives alot more that most authors. Her mini stories are great because she gets that just because a couples HEA is told the reader is still invested in them so Nalini, Thank You. I'm really looking forward to June and HOO.

Anonymous said...

I'm a big fan of yours Nalini Singh and have read all your books. Can't wait to read this one and your marketing techniques are excellent! Building excitement and interest by appealing to your fans not to reveal any spoilers or intel on the main characters...bravo! My guess - Kaleb and Alice... oh my, so so excited...

Anonymous said...

The rat alpha, seriously!!! like noooo..nooo.. who wants to read about this macho, sexy dude turning into a rat!

It makes me giggle,it's just so not doing it for me. Nope,if she writes it, I am skipping it! :-)

I am with all who say that if you have read the series you pretty much know who the book is about.

If it is not about who I think it is, I am going to be sooo pissed. It had best be about him and I am kinda worried for Ms Singh because the build up of this character has been building and building and I hope she does him the justice he deserves.

I am hoping she will hit a homerun with this one AND AND most importantly the story arch will MOVE SIGNIFICANTLY.

Twelve books is more than enough, the plot needs to move on already.

Good luck Ms. Singh

Anonymous said...

What's this about people saying if you read the series you know who the couple is...I read ALOT of authors and I'm not an obsessive fan of Singh such that I remember everything thing about her books. The blurb was simply crap and I guess only the die hard fans of the author would claim otherwise. So unless the book is about the 'ghost' who I vaguely remember being interested in, I won't be buying the book.

Susan said...

I read some of the comments. One person stated that people were being really negative. When people are disappointed they feel badly and express it. The disappointment is justified. One person set their alarm to see the cover and read the blurb. This is devotion and excitement for the reveal. Another comment stated that Ms. Singh has a right to reveal as much or as little as she wants. However, when you build expectations as much as she did you should follow through. I was also extremely disappointed that the blurb was so vague. Most people do not give their allegiance to an author lightly. When they are disappointed it could feel like a trust was violated. I do feel that Ms. Singh is very sincere in her appreciation of fans. It is a slippery slope. This book is being very built up so that people will have high expectations. You want to generate enthusiasm but when you raise expectations so much even if a work is extraordinary
people may feel let down.

I was once an enthusiastic fan of you, Nalini. Not so anymore. I come on this website because even though I am not so impressed, you at least maintain a decent amount of web presence and I quite enjoy the Guild Hunter series. Maybe that's where you should place all your energy??? Anyway, one thing I find you don't do well is create that real sense of anticipation for forthcoming couples through story telling that has you wanting to know more. You're also one of those authors who does that 'Character-xyz is not ready yet, the story arc is not there, blah, blah' rubbish that makes me cynical. Maybe you needs to study Kresley Cole because that author does the story arc thing very well. All her couples are much anticipated because she threads them in the stories so well.

So if people are impatient and expressing their unhappiness then it means you are not delivering sufficient output to keep them distracted and entertained. Maybe the focus should just be the Guild Hunter because the older series feels kinda stale to me.

I'm now always expecting characters I care little about or struggle to remember. I skim alot and it's done in the bookstore. I won't be buying your latest novella. I don't feel intrigued about what will come out next for the psy/changeling series, I'm just irritated with you. More so after this latest round of making a big deal over NOTHING! Hope you better consider your next marketing move or just further alienate your readership.

I love the cover- exactly what I'd expect with this story. However, I am disappointed with the blurb. There was almost no reason to release it, because it does almost nothing to drum up interest in the book unless you are a fan of the series. And from the comments I've read in this thread many readers feel the same. I hope some sort of short snippet is released to get readers who are new to the series or not die hard fans so that they can be interested in the book. If readers want to avoid spoilers than they don't have to read the snippet, but those that don't mind spoilers get something to whet theri appetite.

That blurb just made me want to play 20 questions.

I was so excited when I saw the countdown, I was checking at least times a day to see how much longer was left. I love spoilers and even though the blurb doesn't really have any, I'm still really excited.

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this but I was really depressed last year and your books were always something I really looked forward too.

I don't understand all of the disappointment. If you've read the series then you should know exactly who this book is about and to me, this blurb just confirms that it's exactly who I was hoping the next star would be. Actually I should say stars; plural... I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!

I didn't get who this book was about until I read some of the comments and re-read the blurb.
If its about who I think it is then I totally get why there are no names.... and Am counting down the days!!!!!

I am so excited! And I hope that there will be many more books in this series! I like the Guild Hunter series too, but that doesn't mean I want this one to end! Anonymous is wrong, this series is not stale.

I must admit, when I first read the blurb I felt let down, but then I thought about it, and it would have been really annoying to find out who the Ghost is in a blurb!

Keep the snippets coming, I can't wait for June :)

Somehow I'm not that excited about this book, the cover looked a little bleh! The colours and just a picture of the back of some guy wasn't inviting.
And the lack of information so near the publishing date is a manipulative publicity ploy. I don't respect that sort of thing. Why bother if the book is good? It will stand or fall on its own merits.
