I loved Milla Vane's A Heart of Blood and Ashes (A Gathering of Dragons #1).
Full disclosure: the hero was a bit of a jerk for much of the book (though the author does a good job of making his behavior understandable), the world building is very dark*, and take the content warnings on her website seriously. But the heroine! I absolutely adored her! And the hero eventually stopped to listen so the romance really worked as well. Plus a fun supporting cast of characters.
*I wouldn't say the world-building is darker than the Guild Hunter series, so if you're comfortable with that level of violence this series should be fine.
Milla Vane is also Meljean Brook so if you liked her Iron Seas Steampunk series you should check this one out too! (Read in order folks should start with the introductory novella, The Beast of Blackmoor. But you could easily start with this first full-length book. And I say that as a read-in-order stickler!
Liked Veronica Scott's Ivokk (Sectors New Allies #12). Currently reading an old (1981) Jayne Castle Wagered Weekend as part of my ongoing effort to completely finish my print TBR pile this year.
Finally finished the Sholan Alliance series with book 8 Shades of Gray and book 9 Circle's End. Didn't expect it to take a month to reread books 1 through 8, but at least I was not confused when I restarted book 9.
Just read the Ryder snippet on Ilona Andrews' website. The book is officially titled "Blood Heir" and it's ready for pre-order.
I decided to re-read Grace Draven's Wraith King series since the Ippos King will be coming out soon. I can't wait to read that one.
Trying to wait patiently for new books to come out soon (like Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews, your new books, Nalini, and others).
Thanks to reading Gabriel's and Charlie's book, I started watching New Zealand Super Rugby. I've always watched the All Blacks play when it's World Rugby time, but it's a treat to be able to stay up at night for some of the Super Rugby games. There are some games that are on at 2:30 am my time that I am not awake to watch. Oh well.
I'm in the middle of 'Shadow Warrior' by Feehan, doing a re-read of the series. Thinking about doing a re-read of the J.D. Robb series with Eve Dallas. The new one comes out in September and I'm feeling more like that for now.
