Only 2 days till the release of ANGELS' BLOOD! Here's what Serena of Fallen Angel Reviews had to say about it:
When I got this advance reading copy in the mail, I promptly began reading (yes it was at a stoplight) and didn’t stop until I was done at 1:30 in the morning...This is probably one of the best stories I have ever read and will be one that I will rave about for quite a while. Not only was the world just completely awe-inspiring, but the characters and the storyline are evocative and a pure pleasure to read.Today's countdown prize is an ARC of Jean Johnson's The Mage, which releases April 6th this year. Here's the blurb!
This is the final book in the acclaimed series of 'cursed brothers, fated mates, prophecies. destiny and magic.' (Robin D. Owens)The Mage is part of Jean Johnson's Sons of Destiny series. Follow the link to read more about the series!
New York Times bestselling author Jayne Ann Krentz hails Jean Johnson's writing as 'fabulously fresh, thoroughly romantic, and wildly entertaining.' Now, Johnson returns for the final book in the series of eight brothers destined to fulfill a strange prophecy. As their growing family faces new problems, the worst of those troubles now fall upon Morg, the last of the Sons of Destiny, and on Hope, Morg's foretold bride.
Today's entry question comes from Una: Do you read hardcover books with the cover on or off?

*ahem*
I read hardcovers with the jacket on--and take great pains not to bend, mark, stain or in any way harm it.
Yeah, slightly obsessive on that front, what can I say?
The weird thing is that I am nowhere near as concerned about my paperbacks' looks. What does that say about me, I wonder.
I think it depends on my mood. Sometimes I read the covers with the jacket on, other times I set it neatly aside.
I take the jacket off. I always manage to move the jacket around somehow while I'm reading. It's not as bothersome and safer for the jacket if I just read without it.
I also read the hardcovers with the jacket on but I'm very careful with it.
I always take the covers off.
I read hardcovers with the jacket on. It is very, very rare for me to take them off.
Cover off... I don't want to rip it accidentally.
I take the jacket cover off. I don't want to ruin it, and as I shift around reading quite a lot, I worry that I'll rip it. So it gets set aside until I'm done with the book.
As majority of the hardcovers I get are from the library, it has to stay on. I brought my first hardcover last year that I was going to read. As it was going to be a keeper, I had to remove the cover and put it in a save place so it doesn't get dinged. I used skills learned in the elementary years to craft a new bookcover. So you could say I put some PJs on the book and took it to bed :D
Cover off. It gets a crinkled if you leave it on!
I read hardcovers with the jacket off, because it goes the same like with the paperbacks, I don't like bends or creases
I'm a bit obsessive about looking after my books. I put the dust jackets in mylar covers and then read the book with cover on. Keeps them pristine.
I remove them. They just get in the way and I hate it if I damage it while reading. Usually they just tick me off. If they stayed still it would be fine but they must move!
They have to go until I'm done reading it.

90% of the time I leave them on. BUT if I lend out a hard cover book, the cover stays at home :D
I LOVE JEAN JOHNSON!!! The Sons of Destiny series is one of the best series I've ever read! Of course, I haven't read The Mage yet. I so so want to!! It's one the books I've been anticipating the most!
As for the question, I take the covers off. I usually end up damaging them when I leave them on, plus it annoys me because I'm always shifting my hands, so I have to put in extra effort to keeping the cover on while I read, so it's just easier to set it aside.
I take the covers off to preserve it. If (that is a BIG if) I loan the hardback to someone - I loan it without the cover...I just can't trust it to not be taken care of. But there are only a handful of people I trust with my books anyway. It's too easy to damage the cover so I always remove it and place it in a safe place while I read.
However when the book is from the library the cover is sealed to the book so I have to read it with it on - but I'm SO careful...it actually detracts a bit from my reading.
The jacket always comes off.
I take the covers off. They slip to much and I don't want to damage them.
I read hardcover books with the cover on. It helps to keep the actual book in good shape. Hardcovers are expensive, and since things happen in my house ** ahem **, the covers protect them from things such as greasy fingers, spills etc.
I tend to read with the covers on. I don't tend to muss them up much. I have been looking forward to this book coming out and I sooooo want to win!!!
I almost always take the cover off, if not right away, at least partway through reading after it annoys me by shifting around.
Off. Definitely off.
I always read them with the jacket on cos i just dont want to take it off.
I take the jacket off and usually place it in my homemade quilted bookcover jacket. The bookcover provides some padding because I tend to clamp onto the HC book I'm really into . . .and get hand cramps. ;)
DEFINETLY take the jacket off!! :)
I leave the covers on, but I am always VERY careful with my books anyway.
Most of the hardback books I read are from the library so I have no choice but to keep them on. The few hardbacks I own I also keep the jacket on, probably more from habit than anything else.
I always take the jacket off. It's the most delicate part, and the "display" part, so I want it to look as nice as possible once I'm done reading the book and it's sitting on my shelf.
Can I just say how refreshing it is to hear so many other people treat their books with equal amounts of respect/paranoia? Even my book-loving family teases me about how obsessive I am about the condition of my books!
I read hardcovers with the jacket on.
I read hardcovers with the jacket on.
Cover off! I don't want to accidentally rip or stain the cover somehow! Which i would do if I left it on. lol. And it is a tad bit bothersome to have the cover on when Im reading cuz it moves and slips.. XD haha :)
I don't usually read hardcovers, but when I do, I have to take the cover off so I don't accidentally break it.
I love hardcovers, and I always take the cover off. It gets in the way and slides around a lot, and is annoying lol.
Jacket off...always. It's too hard to read with the jacket always slipping off, not to mention I like to keep them pristine and that won't happen if they are falling off and getting bent.
The Harry Potter books I read with the jackets on...but I did carry them around in plastic bags :) (You can probably tell I don't read many hardback books, and the ones I do are from the library and are covered :)
I prefer to read with the cover off to preserve the condition on the book.
Hmm I sometimes read with the cover on if it's a thin book but if it's really big I take it off to prevent ruining the cover. Sometimes the cover is just plain annoying.
I take it off or else I tend to damage them.
I usually take the jacket off as I don't want to tear or crease it. I prefer to keep it in good condition.
First of all, I love Jean Johnson's series and I've been looking forward to The Mage!
Now to the question, I don't really like hardcovers. So I think I've only bought one or two. When I do read them I remove the jackets though because they tend to move too much when I read.
I have to take the jackets off of my hardbacks, otherwise I worry about ruining the covers! I set them aside, in a nice safe place, and just read the book naked. I do the same thing whenever I loan out a hardback to a friend/family-- I keep the cover and give them just the book (started this after I had a few unfortunate accidents where the jacket came back beat up and ripped...Needless to say, I'm not friends with this person anymore. LOL. No, just kidding. But I DO watch this friend closer with all books...)
I always read hardcovers with the jacket off. I usually find having it on bothers me.
Jacket off. When I did read hardcover, i'd set the jacket on my bookshelf to keep it neat.
Now I don't read hardcover.
I read them with the jacket on. But if I let someone else read it, I take the jacket off first.
I read them with the jacket on so that way I'm able to use the flaps as bookmark when I have to stop reading.
I always read them with the cover on.
I read them with the covers on, I'd probably damage them more if I took them off.
I'm so looking forward to The Mage.
I always take the cover off as well. I absolutely hate it when the cover rips a little at the seams due to accidental shifting, adjusting, etc.
Personally, I think the next evolution of hardcovers should be to have the cover printed on somehow :)
I read hardcovers with the jacket on -- until I finally get irritated with trying to keep it in pristine condition and then take it off until I'm done!
Always off. I keep them in a safe place and put them on again when I have finished reading.
The jacket on and sometimes I use it to mark the place where I stopped reading. The book just doesn't look good withoud the jacket on.
I always take the cover off when I read hardcovers - as anal as I can be about my books I'd hate to damage the cover in any way. Of course if I have borrowed the hardcover from the library then I'm not too fussed as they usually have some sort of protective cover on them
usually with cover on
Off, defintely off!!!!! I protect those babies with mylar covers so they stay prestine, it is one of my weakspots...the covers, and I want to read my hardcovers for many more years to come so I take care of them LOL
I always take the cover off, I don't want to rip it.
I read with the cover on only because I wrap the plastic on the cover itself before I start reading.
Cover on, I like to keep the book "intact"...
I always take the cover off, it's the only way to keep it from tearing and getting wrinkled. Especially important if the book is destined for my favorites shelf.
I read with the cover on, but try really hard not to wrinkle tear or any way mess up the cover.
Although I prefer paperbacks because there not so big and bulky. I usually read hardcovers with the jackets on.
Jacket on sometimes and off others. Depends on where I am reading... home generally on and other place I take it off so it doesn't get ruined.
I read hardcover books with the cover off. Maybe I am little be OCD but I dont like to see the cover wrinkled. But there are times when I have been waiting for months for the book to arrive/come out that I jst read it right away when I get my hands on it.

I read them with the cover on.
Definitely with the jacket on.
off definitely they'd definitely drive me crazy.
I always take the jacket off to keep it in pristine conditions! Since I carry the books I'm reading around in my bag -that's filled with a whole bunch of stuff I never need but don't dare to take out of it- I protect the covers by taking them of the book (hardcover) of with a cover protector (paperbacks) As soon as the hardcover's read the jacket goes back on again
Normally I read them with the jackets off because they tend to slide around and I don't want the them tattered on the bottom. Usually my keepers are hardback versions, unless they don't come in hardback yet.
Heather
I read them with the cover on, unless the cover doesn't fit well. I try to be careful not to spill anything on them, though!
I read hardcovers with the jacket on unless I plan on taking with me for multiple days on my commute--in which case I take off the jacket and leave it near my bookcase. I hate getting the covers worn or dirty.
Covers on! I also try not to crease my paperback spines...
If my kids are reading, though, jacket comes off (granted neither of my children would be reading Sons of Destiny)
No, I always leave the cover off.
