Roger’s Garden Center is wiiiiild! I mean it’s literally a wilderness where gumboots are required when it rains. But best place ever for serious gardeners. But I digress. Look at this cat I saw there last time (Roger’s cat?) What do you think our fluffy overlord is plotting?
Snapshot from the writing desk. Yes, there is a giant Toblerone on the right. Because chocolate is made from cocoa beans, which are a vegetable, and I like to eat healthy.
Twenty years ago this August, Desert Warrior made me a debut author.
I wrote DW in a small notebook in whatever snatches of time I could manage, always aware that I was fighting a hard battle. Getting published when I began was difficult in the first place, and I was a young woman with no connections whatsoever who was submitting from a tiny dot of a country called New Zealand.
I didn’t even know any writers in real life when I started. They were just names on books from faraway places.
The slush pile back then was a literal pile of paper, my submissions just one among thousands, tens of thousands.
I still tried anyway. Because we deserve to fight for our dreams.
Then one day, a young editorial assistant named Diane wrote me back about a submission…and a year or so later, as an assistant editor, she bought DW. (Hi Diane! Thank you for being my first editor (and for one of the best phone calls of my life!))
I’ve now published millions of words across multiple series, but what drives me today is the same thing that drove the determined dreamer of a kid I once was: the love of writing, of stories, of books.
Thank you to every single one of you for reading my stories, whether you found me twenty years ago or today. You’re the reason that kid with stars in her eyes can live her dream. xo
Happy 20th birthday Tariq and Jasmine.

Alt Text: Snapshot of end of chapter 18 of Archangel’s Storm: “Mahiya.” Fingers tucking back a tendril of hair. “Yes?” “I think,” he said, reaching across to cup her chin, brush his thumb across her lower lip, “you must decide something tonight.”
Jason is one of the quietest heroes I’ve ever written. Every word he speaks holds an intensity of meaning - and so does his silence.
Do you like quiet heroes? Which are your favorites?
Snapshot is from: Archangel's Storm.
Seven friends.
One last weekend.
A mansion half in ruins.
No room for lies.
Someone is going to confess.
Because there should have been eight…
They met when they were teenagers. Now they’re adults, and time has been kind to some and unkind to others. None more so than Bea—the one they lost nine long years ago.
They’ve gathered to reminisce at Bea’s family’s estate, a once glorious mansion straight out of a gothic novel. Best friends, old flames, secret enemies, and new lovers are all under one roof. But when the weather turns and they’re snowed in at the edge of eternity, there’s nowhere left to hide from their shared history.
As the walls close in, the pretense of normality gives way to long-buried grief, bitterness, and rage. Underneath it all, there’s the nagging feeling that Bea’s shocking death wasn’t what it was claimed to be. And before the weekend is through, the truth will be unleashed. No matter the cost…
Happy international release day to Resonance Surge!!!! I can’t wait for you to get your hands on this story!
Not long to go until the audiobook is ready too.
Alt Text - Excerpt from Resonance Surge:
Dear Aunt Rita,
I've read your previous advice on being wary of bears who come with delicious edible gifts, and I have to disagree. My sweet bear friend Sally-mae has been baking me fruit pies for the last six months, and she has no designs on my body or heart whatsoever.
Why, the other week, she even offered to iron my shirt for my date with another woman. It wasn't her fault the iron malfunctioned and she burned a hole in my shirt.
~Just a Friend
Dear Just a Friend,
Oh, you sweet summer child. Do write to me once you two are mated so I can say "I told you so" while eating my favorite peach pie.
~Aunt Rita
