Writing

I've started working on Archangel's Storm - Jason is a fascinating hero. Difficult to get to know, but with such an intensity to him that I know when the walls do come down, it'll be explosive.

I'm seeing lots of "best of" lists around the interwebs at the moment. I've posted about most of my favorite reads on the blog through the year, but what about yours? Which books did you most enjoy in 2011?

My favorite "find" of 2011 was the Liaden series by Sharon Lee & Steven Miller.

I just started reading romance novels again this spring, after a 10+-year hiatus, so I've been playing a lot of catch-up. In my Favorites So Far list, I think the only 2011 novels are from Nalini Singh:

1. Sherry Thomas - Not Quite a Husband (His at Night was also good)
2. Meredith Duran - Bound by Your Touch
3. Anne Stuart - Reckless
4. Nalini Singh - Archangel's Blade, Kiss of Snow (also just finished reading and really enjoyed Caressed by Ice and Play of Passion)
5. Mary Balogh - More than a Mistress (with honorable mention to Simply Love)

In no particular order:
Archangel's Blade,
Magic slays (Ilona Andrews),
The Way of Kings (Brandon Sanderson),
Shadow City (Diana Pharao Francis),
Cast in Ruin (Michelle Sagara),
Silver Shark (Ilona Andrews)

My favorite find would be The Way of Kings, since it has been ages since I loved an epic fantasy this much. I adore the world building, like the plot and just love the different characters.

Jason is one of my most favorite characters and I have been really hoping you would do his story, so I am defintely excited to know he is coming up. I only wish you could come out with it tomorrow, I am so curious. I love this series!

Thea Harrison Dragon Bound was a pretty awesome surprise read for me this year. I had turned away from it in the books store for several weeks until I read about it on some authors blog and thought let me check it out. So glad I did. It was a great spin and well written romance on my favorite paranormal shifter-dragons. Mostly eveything else that I enjoyed were by my fav authors and I love when they have new releases.

I don't know if I can pick a favorite. I've enjoyed Nalini's psy/changeling series, Christine Feehan's leopard and ghostwalker series, Lora Leigh's breed series and I just started Maya Banks KGI series. So all I can say is keep up the great work all you authors out there :)

Will I am sure several readers are thrilled to hear that you are writing a book for someone named Jason, i am guessing it is in your Angel series. Are the followers of your Psy-Changling series going to be gypped again in 2012 with only one book while the Angel people get 3 or 4 books? Am I the only one getting angry over the inequality of the series printing schedules?

Nalini Singh said...

@teriannesis The 2012 schedule is one GH book, one Psy/Ch book, plus a GH novella collection. A Psy/Ch novella collection is scheduled to follow the next year, so the balance will flip.

Also, please remember the Psy/Ch books are significantly longer at this point in the story arc. I figure it's better to have one big book than to split it into two. That, I think, would drive everyone insane.

Well if we are talking about finds as opposed to already known authors then it would have to be Gail Carringer's Protectorate series and A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. By the way Nalini, I absolutely adore the Liaden series and have done for years so can't really say it's a find, but I do wait on baited breath for the next installments. and it is one of my re-read series when I can't settle, happy to know that you rate it, do you have a fave novel?

I second the recommendation of Thea Harrison's Dragon Bound books. Dragons and gryphons oh my! Talk about some strong heroes/heroines!
