For anyone who enjoys the Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, I read her first manga in the series (it's the first half of Kyrian's book (technically book 2 in the series)). I really enjoyed it. Of course, this was after I figured out that it reads from right to left. I was SOOO confused at first!
I read another book but it was just eh. And I'm in the middle of another that's the same. I'm looking to you guys for some good reads this coming week!
I just finished Bad Moon Rising by Sherrilyn Kenyon, which was awesome! And The Strain, by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan...it's a very well-written scary vampire/biological threat/thriller-type book.
I'm reading Pitch Black by Leslie Parrish, and it's fantastic. If you love romantic suspense (although I'd actually call this romantic thriller), definitely pick up this and the first book in the Black Cat series, Fade To Black.
I'm currently reading Tessa Dare's debut novel: Goddess of the Hunt, which has gotten many positive reviews. Even though I'm in the middle (the WARDROBE scene. If you've read this book you'll understand my comment!) I can say I'll be picking up the next two books in the series.
Blurb:
Ever the bold adventuress, Lucy Waltham has decided to go hunting for a husband. But first she needs some target practice. So she turns to her brother’s best friend, Jeremy Trescott, the Earl of Kendall, to hone her seductive wiles on him before setting her sights on another man. But her practice kisses spark a smoldering passion—one that could send all her plans up in smoke.
Jeremy has an influential title, a vast fortune, and a painful past, full of long-buried secrets. He keeps a safe distance from his own emotions, but to distract Lucy from her reckless scheming, he must give his passions free rein. Their sensual battle of wills is as maddening as it is delicious, but the longer he succeeds in managing the headstrong temptress, the closer Jeremy comes to losing control. When scandal breaks, can he bring himself to abandon Lucy to her ruin? Or will he risk his heart, and claim her for his own?
The blurb may not seem interesting, but I would advice you and go to Tessa's website and read the excerpt.
An anthology with Josh Lanyon, ZA Maxfield and Laura Bambauch "Because of the Brave", where 15% of the proceeds are being donated to the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network between the book's release and September 11th.
Anonymous-- I highly recommend Kresley Cole! I adore her Immortal Series. Are you starting with A Hunger like no Other? It's the first full length novel, but she does have a novella in Playing Easy to Get (I didn't read this until after I got through the first 2 books. You can definitely read it anywhere in the series. I love it, though, because of her prologue on how the valkyrie came into being).
Sorry for gushing! Kresley is the other author besides Nalini that I buy hot of the press.
This week I read the first in the Retrieval Artist's series: The Disappeared. I loved the concept, the writing style was enjoyable, I even enjoyed Flint for the most part. I just couldn't really accept the other characters (Ekaterina and Jamal). I couldn't really accept or like them, which made getting through the rest of the book difficult.
I started Cast in Shadows, but again, just couldn't dive into it. I think I've become spoiled with such wonderful writing, like Nalini's, that I get disappointed in other's style and characterization.
I read Tiger's Eye, Marjorie M Liu's first in the Dirk and Steele novels. I loved it! I already requested Shadow Touch from the library, and I also have The Iron Hunt I hope to read this weekend after rereading some of my other keepers (MTP, No Rest for the Wicked (Kresley COle's second IAD) and probably Reyes story. I *adore* Reyes from Gena Showalter's Lord of the Underworld and The Darkest Lie comes out this month!)
I read the first in Shannon K Butcher's The Sentinel Wars series, "Burning Alive". Not bad! It wasn't a psychangling novel or anything, but not bad! ;-)
Sherrilyn Kenyon's "Bad Moon Rising" and Johanna Lindsey's "A Rogue of My Own" are waiting on the nightstand and calling my name this weekend.
I really enjoyed Meant to Be by Donna Marie Rogers, such a sweet read. Right now I am reading the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. What a great YA book, and creepy
I read Butterfly Unpinned by Laura Bacchi and Bonnie Dee. It was excellent. It's probably one of the best books I read this year. The other book I read this week was the new Lora Leigh breed book Bengal’s Heart. It was great but it tested me on how far a male lead can press the line of jerk/good guy. LOL. I'd highly recommend either book but Butterfly Unpinned was one I won't forget soon.
I highly recommend Hot Pursuit by Suzanne Brockmann. It is book 15 in her troubleshooters series with Sam and Alyssa back in the lead. A great way to see what our favourite characters are up to 6 years into their marraige. Lots of other favourite characters make an appearance also.
I've read alot in the past week. Let's see, there was Night's Edge - anthology w/Charlaine Harris. LIked it. Strange Brew - anthology w/P.Briggs. Liked it too. Cold Moon Rising by CT Adams & Cathey Clamp. Loved it. Atlantis Unmasked by Alyssa Day. Eh, it was okay. The Fire King by Marjorie Liu. I'm on the fence with this one. I think i need to reread to decide if i liked it or not.
I read Nalinis "Awaken the Senses" and liked her diary-idea:-). (Alexandre found Charlotte`s diary and used her secret desires to seduce her...). Even a murder is included. - Now I`ve ordered a few other books of this series to find out who is the killer and what happens with Charlotte`s mother.
I just read "The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie" by Jennifer Ashley and have to admit: "That`s a book for me *g*. I love it!" (Thank you for the recommendation Nalini.) It contains all a good story should. Ian is a unique hero and his brothers are v-e-r-y interesting (..rough, dominant and very protective..). - I fear I`ve to read more of this clan:-).
I'm still reading King of Sword and Sky by C.L.Wilson. It's taking me forever because I keep re-reading the best parts.
I really want Shan and Elfeya to survive their 1,000 years of torture to see their grand-kids! I'm in agony waiting for the last 2 books so I can find out how their part of the story resolves. They've earned freedom and an HEA .
I just read Marjorie M. Liu's "The Fire King", and then promptly bought and read "The Wild Road" the next day (it was the only other Dirk & Steele novel the bookstore had in stock). I hadn't read any of her single-title books in this series before, but "The Fire King" really hooked me in. I'm going to have to hunt down the rest of the series now.
Hazardous Duty by Betsy Brannon Green A Highlander of her own by Melissa Mayhue When Bruce met Cyn by Lori Foster
Am currently reading Beautiful Lies by Lisa Unger (if I can find where it disappeared to in the move) A Circle of Souls by Preetham Grandhi (his debut book) Cream Puff Murder by Joanne Fluke
Cristina that's great to hear that you really liked kresley coles immortal after dark series...I'm waiting for the first three to arrive...and yeah I'm starting with hunger like no other.....CAN'T WAIT to get my read on!!!!!
Hey, everyone! I'm currently reading Jacqueline Kay's "Rapture" and enjoying it so far, though I just got back from vaca and am missing the guys or M & M something fierce! Anonymous, start reading KC's Immortals right now! No one is dissapointed reading one of her books! Just finished rereading 'Dark Desires After Dusk' and, OMG!, was just as awesome the second time around! Happy reading, everyone!
Just finished Bad Moon Rising! It was awesome although there wasn´t much story we didn´t already know somehow. I adore Fang and Aimee. They are so cute together! And I read Bengals Heart by Lora Leigh. It was as good as I hoped. Cabal is great und his mate, too. The last books of this series were so much better than those in the beginning! You see, this week two books were released which I waited for for ages!
You'll have to post what you think of Eve of Darkness. I'm with Mariana in that I try to avoid paperbacks and prefer my books digitally, but the SJ Day trilogy doesn't look to be available in that format.
I've picked up the paperback twice at the store and then put it back down. You'll have to let me know if I pick it up a third time whether you think I should just suck it up and buy it. lol
Tracy
P.S. Noyba- thanks for recommending the Suzanne Brockmann book. I had stopped reading that series because it was getting a little too "real" for me. But Sam and Alyssa were two of my favorites, so now I'm going to have to add that one to my list of TBR.
I am reading a book from the immortal after dark series by Kresley Cole "Kiss of the Demon King". I am not done yet but I am loving it:-)! I wish Nalini would give us Archangel's Kiss already! I am also reading the "Spook's Apprentice by Joseph Delaney". The last book was really good. Have a great time reading your favorite books. Karima
Perla--if you can find it, the novella in Playing Easy to Get is a fun, quick read. I read it after A Hunger Like No Other, which I think I preferred for some reason. I hope you enjoy Kresley ^_^
Orannia-- I can't *wait* to get my hands on shadow touch!
heather-- did you like A Highlander of her own? I am always looking for good highlander stories. Karen Marie Moning has an excellent series that I loved.
I am also waiting for Bengal's heart to come in from the library. I'm really interested in Cabal's story. I just got Meljean Brook's Demon Angel and added it to my TBR pile to hopefully get to this week. I just reread MTP last night. It is a book that I can rely on to always make me happy and sentimental.
Just found the blog and thought I should enter the Friday Book Club!! YAY XD
Anyway books I read this week:
Jeaniene Frost - Destined for an Early Grave - OMG this series keeps getting better and better and Bones & Cat are so intense lol. Loved this book and cant wait to read the next, wondering when it will como out.
Rachel Caine - Carpe Corpus - great book, I love the series but really if I lived in Morganville I would go crazy, or worse I woulbe probably be dead already (knowing my tongue lol). Anyway Im really glad that this book is not the last and there's a another one coming out.
Gena Showalter - The Darkest Fire and The Darkest Prison - great novellas, another series that I love
Nalini Singh - Beat of Temptation (An Enchanted Season), Stroke of Enticement (The Magical Christmas Cat), Angels' Pawn - great novellas too loved all of them. I have to say that in BOT even though I understood Nate's reasons I was screaming the whole time: "Nate u big idiot" lol I liked to see how much trouble they went to mate, since I always saw them as a big happy couple and they always knew eachother I thought they didnt had any problems lol so I was really hapy to see that it wasnt like that. Zach and Annie from SOE made such a damn cute couple that I wished I had a Zach too lol As for Ashwini and Janvier from AP I just have to say that I LOVED them and cant wait to see where they r going XD
James Patterson - The Angel Experiment - I really liked this book and hope Ill have time to read the rest of the series and I hope there's more romance 'cause what can I say?? Im sucker for it ^_~
Jordan Castillo Price - Hemovore - HUH?! Hello?? Vampires and gay at top of it all, what more could I want? ROFL XD I really love Jordan, to me she's the gay porn Queen writter lol so if u are searching for some gay porn to read u should give a try to her PsyCop series, they r the BEST
Perla-- I'm glad! The novella is about Myst and the first Wroth brother to fall prey to the Ascension. I love the prologue in the novella, telling how the Valkyrie came into being. (Something about Kresley's and Nalini's prologues--they are just fabulous!)
Nix is a little scene stealer. In all the novels she appears in, she just ROCKS!
Just finished Kill for Me by Karen Rose, awesome book, very powerful and suspenseful. it is part of a series but the whole series is very good. Definitely recommend if you like romantic suspense.
Christina---I completely agree I really like Nix she's really funny....just finished no rest for the wicked..liked it just as much as the first one!!.I'm in love with Sabastian!! He's such a gentleman!!!-- Now I'm definitely gonna try to get the novella!!!

Oops, the title of the manga is Dark-Hunters volume 1.
I just read the very intense The Vampire Queens Servant by Joey Hill. Awesome love story, highly recommended.

Just got Storm Cycle (Iris Johansen and her son Roy) - not sure I'm into it yet. Doesn't grab you like her other books did.
I'm currently reading Tessa Dare's debut novel: Goddess of the Hunt, which has gotten many positive reviews. Even though I'm in the middle (the WARDROBE scene. If you've read this book you'll understand my comment!) I can say I'll be picking up the next two books in the series.

I'm about to start reading the immortal after dark series by Kresley Cole....I've read pretty good reviews...I hope I'm not dissapointed :-/
Upon Hilcia's recommendation: Samantha Kane's Islands; such beautiful romance (short but sweet).
Another was ZA Maxfield's Notturno, this was a bit darker, but still a lovely romance.
Re-read Mine to Possess and Silent Blade by Ilona Andrews, because I love them!
OH! Can't believe I forgot!
An anthology with Josh Lanyon, ZA Maxfield and Laura Bambauch "Because of the Brave", where 15% of the proceeds are being donated to the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network between the book's release and September 11th.
