This is the thread where you can discuss Archangel's Heart and previous books in the Guild Hunter series with *spoilers*. Do not read the comments unless you want to be spoiled!!
As always, please be polite and kind to one another. Happy discussing!
OMG!! I loved it. I loved hearing more about Ellie's history and seeing how her and Raphael's relationship has grown and strengthened. Also, getting the brief updates on all of the 7 and their mates was fantastic! I spent all morning/afternoon reading the book(Almost missed taking my kiddo to his Dr appt.) LOVE Nalini's books and the worlds she creates!
Everything I could have hoped for and more although like Elena I am waiting for the other shoe to drop, can't wait for the next one, but then I ad,it with these storylines I am always greedy for more
I wonder what's next up for the series? Another 2 books focusing on Elena/Raphael? (Especially with the new grandparents and cascade!) a book /hero for Tasha so she can finally get over Raphael? At this point I don't think anyone else in the Seven are ready for their own book...unless its Sparkle + Bluebell. Seriously Nalini, stop teasing with the 'but they're just brothers' trope :3 Bluebell already mentioned in AE that losing sparkle would be far worse than when he lost his mortal...One does not compare brothers to lovers!!! Also wouldn't mind a book for Callie + Alex. They're both so marked by grief, loss and age that they're really the only ones who suit the other. They should cuddle :3
As a side note, who was Rohan's mother? Was she not Alexander's consort? Why is she completely out of the picture?
I never even thought of Jeffrey! Yes, I can't wait for him to see Majda! Stayed up till 6 in the morning to read this book so it is directly responsible for my head-ache.I loved seeing more of Aodhan but dying to know even more.I want his story next! Also my only complaint is that I wish Raphael could have taken more of the Seven with him.also wanted more smexy times.Apart from that it was as excellent as I expected from Nalini.Another thing I love about her books as a Muslim is that she doesn't seem to take the stereotypical view of some authors and has several characters with Muslim names like Nimra and the adorable Ibrahim. We noticed Nalini.Thankyou so much for representing us in the genre too. It's another reason why you are my favourite author:)
I read it and loved it. It's so good seeing Elena with family that will live longer than a mortal life, people who could help protect any child she or Raphael may have (he's the son of two archangels, the youngest to become an archangel and she's the first made angel, the rules of angelic pregnancy may not apply. Plus Elena doesn't know how to be normal, even when she tries). I love the angelic world building, the luminata came out of nowhere. I love that she takes us all over the world, I research each area and share with my hubby for vacation planning. I love the diversity of the characters (their skin colour, race, outlooks on life), it's such an inclusive world. I love the mystery - what's up with Michaela? I love Sparkle and Bluebell and I am so looking forward to their book, they deserve happiness. More diversity, yeah!!! This was another win for me.
I loved this book, just like I love this world. I only found the series within the last year, but I'm already addicted and it's one of my favorites. Waiting for new books is killer...I already want the next one, want to know who it's for!
I can't wait to see Jeffrey's reactions...What a love/hate relationship that guy brings out in me.
I loved seeing Ellie and Raphael again. They're always such a comforting and solid thing to come back to, this relationship nothing could shatter.
I really liked seeing Aodhan more, seeing him grow and come back to himself. Him and Illium fighting..that I didn't like so much lol.
I do wish we'd seen the two of them make up. We saw their fight...
A lot happened in the two years after Archangel's Enigma. Oh to read about Ransom getting married to Nyree. Jeffery learning that his former mother-in-law and father-in-law are alive...oh boy. Michaela and Elena in agreement if only for a short time????? Yikes!
Loved the book.
I feel like the other shoe is about to drop in the next book.
I loved the book! I already can't wait till the next one. I really really hope its sparkle and bluebell's! I also would love to read about others in the angelic world.
Elijah and Hannah's story. Then the more minor characters like Cristiano, Valerius and Tasha would be interesting too! It would be fascintaing to have a closer look into some of the others archangels lives.
Wow. I finished Archangel's Heart when I should really be studying for my upcoming exams T.T But it was totally worth it!!
I've always love the dynamic between Raphael and Elena, how deep their trust and love for each other that there's never a misunderstanding (does he/she really love me?). And look at how far they've gone in their relationship. Raphael no longer pushes his protective urges to Elena, but totally respects her boundaries, while Elena being understanding when he goes all 'Archangel Mode'.
And finally we got to know more about our lovely Sparkle, Aodhan! I'm still curious as hell as to what exactly happened to him though... Seeing his interactions with Elena, how he opened up to her, accepting little touch here and there... my heart T.T
The background of Elena though. I've had suspicion that her grandmother is alive, most probably as a vampire, but for some reason I didn't expect that her grandfather would be alive as well??? When I got to the part where Elena and Raphael busted Gian's creepy underground and there's a male vampire with blonde hair I was like "WTF????" Now that I think about it, with a mind as psycho as Gian's I could understand why he kept Jean-Baptiste alive... but still, ew. EW. Such a piece of trash. I'm glad he didn't die instantly.
Now I'm wondering about this newfound family of Elena. Will she introduce them to Jeffrey...? I know the they're not how a father and daughter should be, but still, they're the parents of his beloved late-wife... or would seeing them bring back all the pain for Jeffrey? Moreover if Marguerite resembled Majda too much (I bet that would feel weird). I wonder what would Jean-Baptiste and Majda think of Jeffrey, their son-in-law. I think they would be kind of horrified (and disapproved) if they see the Now-Cold-AF-Jeffrey. Well, it's up to Elena to explain that he wasn't always like that, that he loved (and still loves) Marguerite and their daughters so much before that fateful day happened. And I believe Jean-Baptiste and Majda want to hear as much as possible about their daughter, and even though they already heard from Elena, she was a young child and doesn't really have much memories of Marguerite like Jeffrey...
Oh and lastly... I'm so skeptical about Lijuan's disappearance. Like, did she really go to Sleep or was it all just a play?? But her court is empty and she didn't confront The Cadre when they're taking control of the bloodlust in China. Personally I would like the creepy bitch gone forever as in really, totally dead (which I doubt it). If she's Asleep then who's the villain for the next books?? Are we going to fast forward to hundreds years later, when she's waking? Eh, I don't think so... I think she's not gone to Sleep, but was just hiding to save and built her energy. (If she's Asleep it would solve many problems, like other than the creepy bitch is forever gone, Alexander and Favashi don't need to war against each other for territories. Actually I feel kind of bad for Favashi.)
Anyways, I really really enjoyed reading Archangel's Heart and I'm excited already for the next book!
I loved the book, well, like every other Piece of work that leaves Nalinis pen. Its one of the rare series where I dont get annoyed at going back to the first mc's over and over again. Elena and Raphael are just too awesome and loveable. Loved seeing more of Sparkle (he is so freakishly awesome) and he is not even healed himself yet but already helping someone else. It was probably a shock and a joy for Laric to find a "kindred Spirit" in Aodhan... (I need to read that he made up with Illium...Im dying here T.T) Also the Picture of Nadiel... gosh, so lucky Caliane didnt see that, or Raphael. Such creepy assholes, leaving something horrible like that up for his grieving Family to see. (Even though now I still dont know if Nadiel had blond hair now under the fire or not... also the Gold eyecolour? Hm? Shit I would really love to know what Kind of wings he had...but anyhow now we know he Looks like Raphael, so one hell of a hunk there) Also Elena now has her grandparents. Uh, I adore them already :) I also wondered about how Jeffrey was going to react to them or they to him. I liked Astaad in that one...Raphael and Elena being lovey-dovey make him miss his Mele, awwwwww my heart, archangel! Lijuan...probably didnt go to sleep, dont think so, she thinks herself much to great for something "earthly" like that. She is probably being creepy somewhere (I kinda like here she makes such a great villain with all the creepy I-am-god-thoughts) Anyways, loved the book (like always) and already waiting hard for the next one (while still waiting for the german Edition of Allegiance of honor...December just come I beg you T.T)
This story was, as usual, wonderful. I loved the suspense, the spotlight on Elena's mysterious past, but most of all I loved seeing the characters new and old interact with each other. It was beautiful and I can't thank Nalini enough for showing us honor, fidelity and love in so many ways - between husbands and wives, parents and children, friends and comrades (new and old.) It was all so sharply contrasted against the villains - they had no honor, no fidelity and certainly no love. Each moment with Elena and Raphael makes me fall in love with them more and more. I think I'm starting to love Titus and Alexander a little, too. And, like Elena, I'm also starting to hate Michaela a little less and can't wait to see what mystery surrounds her.
I also loved the deeper look Nalini gave us into the love Adohan's "brothers" have for him and how they all were able to help him heal enough to rejoin the world. I have "sisters" of my heart because the sisters of my blood are not people I respect nor would I expect them to walk across the street to help me. The friends I call sisters would be there in a heartbeat if I needed them, as I would be there for them. How wonderful it was to see this love through Adohan's eyes as he described the persistence of his "brothers" in helping him heal. I appreciate the depth of these characters as they pester, fight and make up just like real brothers.
I've read the previous blogs and it saddens me deeply that we are still talking about a possible romantic relationship between Aodhen and Illium for two reasons. First, this talk takes away from the amazing story that Nalini has given us. Second, it diminishes the love that not only Aodhen and Illium have for each other, but the love all of the brothers have for one another. Is their love any less real or deep because it is platonic? Do they have to become lovers for it to be real love or have a profound effect on one another? This seems like a very shallow definition of love to me and I say that what exists between them all is so deep and so real that if any one of them were to die that it would rip the heart out of them all and wound them all on a level so deep the scars would never heal.
Adohen has a deep, meaningful (and platonic) love of his "brothers", but it is clear that he will not be able to heal completely until he is also able to love and be loved in return by a woman. What’s more, I would bet money that a woman is somehow tangled up in the abuse that led to his touch aversion. Likewise, a woman betrayed Illium. Therefore, only the love of other women will ever be able to fully heal these wounds in both of these warriors. Besides, their relationship could never be anything but brothers. Anything else would be doomed fail as Illium is still trying to save his friend and Adohen not only resents this, but will always resent the fact that he needed to be saved. I say, let them be who they are and stop trying to force a relationship that isn't.
I can't wait for what Nalini has in store for us next and I have every confidence that when we see the stories of Michaela, Adohan, Illium and all the others, they will be complex, unexpected and bring us new characters to love and to hate.
I loved this book! It is always great to revisit Raphael and Elena, and I really loved getting to know Aodhan more. I really liked Alexander in the previous book and was pleased to see more of him in this one. His grandson Xander is adorable -- I loved him. Elena's grandparents are great and I was happy that they were introduced. It is so nice that she has more family after everything she has been through.
There were a few things that felt a little unfinished to me. The biggest was not getting to see Illium and Aodhan make up after their fight. I would have liked to see Jeffrey's reaction to his wife's parents being alive, but I can understand why she chose not to include it. And this is an odd one, but I really would have liked to see what Rhys gave Mahiya. I've always liked the little mentions we've had of him. He's a cool secondary character that has never really gotten any screentime.
I wonder what has been happening with the woman who was rescued from Lijuan's fortress in the previous book? I feel like she and Aodhan would get along well if they met.
I've grown increasingly curious about the Hummingbird. I'm guessing we won't find out anything until Illium gets his book (if he does get one).
Poor Nalini must be getting tired of all the questions about whether Raphael and Elena will have a baby. Hopefully her spelling it out in this one will give her some relief. :) Personally I want to know if Ransom and Nyree will have a baby -- or anything at all about how their wedding went.
Still no firm answer on what is really going on with Michaela. I'm kind of hoping she is pregnant -- it opens up so many possibilities. And if the kid is Dahariel's that means Andromeda will be a big sister, and I can't help but think Andromeda would make a fantastic sibling. Especially considering what a piece of work both Michaela and Dahariel are. That kid would need somebody nice in their life.
I have loved all of the little snippets and scenes in the newsletters, but it has been a really long time since we have gotten a Guild Hunter short story or novella. I'd love to see another collection like Angel's Flight.
loved it as always. Anyone else get the vibe that Laric maybe female? I hope so, I think she'd be a good match for Aodhan or Illium. It was mentioned a few times how small Laric was. It might also explain why Laric didn't push interaction with the other Luminata if in addition to scars, she was also the only female in the fort.
I really liked this book. It is a more minor book in the story, I think, in terms of moving plot. Although, I think, the addition of her grandparents is fantastic! It is nice that Elena is going to have a strong loyal family behind her... Great writers do what they want regardless of what people think. However, I agree with the person who said that it seems like readers are getting teased, with 'aodhan and ilium. Ilium pines for his lost love, and Aodhan, sweetly, remembers his first kiss from a female angel, then there are the things about them that are ambiguous and that they would or could become lovers. I think teasing readers on this issue, when readers feel so strongly about the books and so strongly about these characters is not fair. I don't think that Nalini realizes how much people love her characters and in this crazy world, her characters are the warm and fuzzy family that we curl up with when everything in life is so painful. I think, for some people, not knowing or guessing is very uncomfortable and even somewhat painful. I have read some of the responses to a possible pairing of Illium and Aodhan. I think Nalini will do an amazing job no matter what. Moving their forward is one thing, but keeping this ambiguous and teasing readers may be viewed as hurtful to some. I know people may not agree. I certainly mean no disrespect. I think Nalini may not realize how strongly people feel....
AGREED!!! "..Do they have to become lovers for it to be real love or have a profound effect on one another? " --------- Their friendship is still very powerful and a great example to others without it having to be romantic or sexualised.
(sorry for my english, I'm french ^^) I loved this book !!! It's so interesting, and there are some very beautiful scenes here !! All the characters are so awesome... Well, I miss Venom a lot, but I loved the book nonetheless. Actually, I don't want necessarily him to have a book yet, but I just want him to be more present, he's so fascinating, and, well I don't know, I just miss him. But what a wonderful book !!!
1) One thing that I adore about Nalini is the fact that in her books there is no "love triangle" or unnecessary love drama and I think that with Raphael and Elena she always does an amazing job. They don't doubt about the love they have for each other, and while they may get jealous (which is understandable and, admitedly enjoyable to read), they are still sure of one another. They learn to live and became stronger togheter. It's truly amazing.
2) I didn'the expect to find his granfather (while a little her grandmother) alive but I was so happy he was. I find it fantastic that Elena can relay on more and more people, that her family (blood and chosen) is becoming bigger and bigger.
3) I completely agree with Teresa. Although I can understand why some people see Aodhan and Illium as a couple but personally I love them as best friend, brothers. After all, if this book as proven anything is that while Aodhan is particulary near Illium, his relationship with the other seven is no less strong. They all where there for them. So what, shoul he be with all of them tto? Yes, his relationship with Illium is different, but that is because they are best friends, they are there for each other and has been there for each other since they were children. Of course they love each other. But does it need to be romantic love to be more real? I find it quite sad that they can't love each other in such a way as friends, that to love each other so deeply they need to be lovers. As for Illium stating, in a previous book, that losing Aodhan would be worse than losing the woman he loved... well, honestly, while I am sure he loved her it is also true that he couldn't really trust her. I mean, he loved her, she was his first love but she wasn't the right girl for him, otherwise she would have kept his secrets. The pointhe his that despite the fact he loved her, she was his first love but not THE love of his life. She wasn't what Elena is for Raphael or Honor is for Dimitri... etc... not a less true love but a less intense one, a less strong one. He could not trust only Aodhan but also the other seven more than her. Truthfully, it would be quite bad if he cared more about her than Aodhano. As I said, while he loved her, that was the "first love". Important yes, but not comparable to what he feels foright Aodhan, who he has known since he was a little kid, who always had his back, with who he played tricks when younger. Moreover, the argument between the two of them made me think that Aodhano may fall in love before than Illium, that out of the two ofor them he is, surprisingly, more ready than Illium (attach that doesn'the mean that his book will be the next). I just have the feelingreatest his book will be out before than Illium's.
4) Mahiya and Jason. Any reference to one of them is welcome. They were (and still are) my favourites.
Ps:Sorry for any mistake of any kinday (grammatical..etc..).
So far I have loved all of these books. I wish we had learned more about the Legion--because I find them and where theirs and Raphael's evolutionary story might go fascinating--and that there had been a bit more backstory discovered about the battles to come in this Cascade, but all in all a great read again. I love that there are books "in between" where you get kind of a side plot running parallel to the bigger story while revisiting most of the major players and their concurrent timelines. Real life, after all, is not always one precipitating crisis after another. These books do a good job of showing some of the equally important but less titanic of the challenges these characters would face as their stories progressed within the framewotk of the approaching "big picture" showdowns to come.
As for Bluebell and Sparkle, as tempting as it is to see them as a couple, I think they would have had ample time as young angels before Aodhan's breaking to have discovered even a glimmer of an attraction for one another. But what if--and this is a big one--since Aodhan can only seem to tolerate Illium's touch (at least so far), it is one person that will heal both of them? As a throuple if you will? Or maybe Illium will be instrumental in helping Aodhan bridge the touch gap between him and whomever his mate might be since they are such deep and abiding friends.
As for Illium, I agree with others who commented that the mortal he loved before was not The One for him. For an angel who never, ever lies, what we've learned about her, whoever she was, tells me that she was all wrong for him at a fundamental level. It will be interesting to see what it takes for him to admit that to himself after centuries of mourning her loss.
Laric ... don't know about the whole might-be-female concept, and don't know that I'd enjoy that particular plot twist if that was the case. I would anticipate a bunch of poor self-esteem driven angsty moments that I think would detract from the strength of the cjaracters thus far if Laric turned out to be the mate of either Bluebell or Sparkle since thwy are arguably two of the most beautiful and unique of angelkind as we've come to know and love it. Raphael's increasing healing abilities notwithstanding, I can't help but think that a female Laric with either of the two (or both) wouldn't make for a cohesive or enjoyable addition to the fabric of the relationships that are forming amongst the 7. But what about Laric and Dahariel the sadist? There is some compelling potential for redemption with that coupling. I missed Venom in this one too, but I like that he pops up in unexpected places in the series and can't help but wonder about him and Sorrow together if she ever matures and heals emotionally.
The Jean-Baptiste and Madja revelation was perfect. I can't help but wonder if Jeffrey and Elena might not see some beginning to a reconciliation (or at least a cease fire) as a result. If nothing else, I would like to see it benefit Eve and Beth in some way.
Love. Love. Love. And cannot wait to find out what book 10 will bring us.

Love. Love. Love. And cannot wait to find out what book 10 will bring us.
I think Tasha will wind up with Alexander. Anyone else would be a step backwards for her.
Aodhan and Illeum need a book with details about the Hummingbird's past and how life is going in Morocco.
I would love novellas about Eli and Hannah...something present day with a memory sequence about how they met. Since Calliane is so fond of Hannah, guessing they were together when Eli ascended. We know it happened after a great battle....really need that backstory.
@Patricia Ann Bello I don'the think exactly that she is evolving, however it may be that, because she is so connected to Raphael, she is progressing and strengthening faster than she would if there was no Cascade, and the fact itselfor that she was talking to Raphael and not someone else may have influenced the "silver flame". Obviously it helps that Elena, if given her time, would became a very powerful angel after all it has been inted that she will be once older).
@ Amanda Montoya I agree with you. If they had been attracted to each other in that way Illium and Aodhan had two hundred years (not counting those in which Aodhan was distancing himself from the world) to act on it. As for Aodhanow or Illium's heroine... well I don'the think that she would be the same for the both of them. Aodhan need someone that makes him feel special not for his appearance but for the person that he is, someone who has faith in him and his strenght, someone that he can calls his and that can call him hers without trying to trap or cage him. And even Illium needs someone special (in that way) just to him. Furthermore while they adore and love each other I believe that they would be quite possessive (like all Nalini's heroes). As for Laric or a feminine counterpart... I can't see them togheter. And honestly I am not sure I see him/her (feminine counterpart) and Dahariel either. It is an interesting idear though... Sorrow and Venom (who I missed too), in my head, are already predestined. They would be so perfect for each other. Who knows how much Sorrow improved in two years... Things like that takes time but she is strong and I am sure we will see her soon better.
- Someone suggested Lijuan'so niece as Aodhan's heroine and, frankly, if I had to guess her now (and she is someone that we already know) I would chose Suyin too. Both survived difficult situations that wounded them deeply and both are trying to heal. She may not be a warrior but I don't see Aodhan's heroine as a warrior, maybe in the future Nalini will surprise me and made me change idea, but right now I don'the see her as such. Furthermore Suyin is an artist, one of the greatest architect in the world, she will understand and appreciate Aodhan's art and his drive to make it. And I think she needs a warrior as a "mate". Aodhan is both an artist (who she can relate to) and a warrior. Obviously they may not be what Nalini has in mindue, she may think of someone else for each of them, however I definetely like the idea of them togheter.
@Barbara I don't see Tasha falling with someone who isn't an Archangel as a step backward but on the contrary I think it would help her understand that when it comes to love her hero doesn't necessary need to be super strong. However, I am waiting for Eli and Hanna story too and have been doing it since the first book. I just hope Nalini will grant this wish of ours.
Oh just now I read the theory that Laric may be female, now I get it why you talked about himy as a girl (next time I will read all the comments). That would actually really interesting. I am still not sure about Female Laric and Dahariel as a couple (even if I am really intrigued by the possibility) and I can't see Female Laric with Illium/Aodhan but it would be really interesting to see who would be her mate (maybe Keir? Or someone in Neha's court?) or his mate (in case Laric is male). One thing I would love to read, if the theory proves to be true, is the other charachters reaction to this news!
Just to be cear: for feminine counterpart I intended a female with a problem similar to Laric's one. And although ithe would implocated the same difficuties in matching her with a hero than theregular would be with a female Laric, there would be no effect surprise. No one shocked to discover Laric is a woman.Yeah I really like the possibility that Laric is a woman. Well I definitely want to read more about this charachter no matter if he is a man or a woman.
I LOVED the book. Read it in the middle of my exams. Twice. I loved all the mysteries and reveals and what not. It was an amazing book.
I want more scenes of Raphael with Zoe and Maggie! Or any kids, honestly. I loved those moments.
Am I the only one thinking it was Elena who unknowingly had Gervais bleed from his mouth and eyes? Like, she thought someone else did it, but why would any of the Cadre do that to someone of no importance to them? Elena is evolving so fast!
I really wanted to see how Illium and Aodhan said sorry to each other! Do they fly around trying to catch each other? Do they an emotional talk? And, I used to want them together, but the more the series grows the more I just..don't want that. I want them to be their own individual selves.
I know the book just recently released...but any idea when the next one is coming?? xD
Thank you to another commenter who pointed out Elena's eyes flickering with wildfire. I reread that again part of the book again and I thought about Cassandra's prophesy from Archangel's Enigma...how the Archangel of Death would be ended at the hands of what must be Raphael, Alexander, and "the broken dream with eyes of fire"
@Nidhi Next year for sure during these period. As for Elena hurting Gervais... I don't know. At this point you could be right. I mean usually if an Archangel use is power it's written who did. And now even the theory of the of "the eyes on fire"... But why would Elena be "the broken dream"? And to make her as powerful as an Archangel when she is supposed to need more time to grow in her strength (with or without Cascade) it seems to me a little exaggerated. I mean it is true that she was able to catch the blade Michaela throw at her but to me it just mean she is progressing faster. For example: if she needed 3 centuries to achieve something she will achieve it in far less time, but to became Archangel she should need millennias. So unless the "broken dream with eyes of fire" is no Archangel and is simply crucial in defeating LiJuan then I don'the see her being him/her/"this mistiriuos person".
Loved loved the book !!! Seriously - the stories just keep getting better and better !! And I always love going back to Raphael and Elena. To me they are the best ...
As for the rest -
1. I would wonder why Jeffrey would even want to meet with Jean and Majda. Given his nature and how he has erased Marguerite from his life I think he would avoid meeting her parents.
2. I can honestly say I would not like an Illium and Aodhan pairing. To me that would be limiting. I do not have anything against such pairings as such but considering the richness of this world I think it would be disappointing. Not that Nalini does not do a great job with her stories but still it is like exchanging two couples ( with the attendant story lines ) to just one couple.
At the same time why do we need this kind of stamp of approval ? Do deep and abiding friendships have to morph into a relationship with sexual component ??? Are we not capable of envisaging 'mere' meaningful friendship so deep ???
3. Yes, would have loved to know what happened to Suyin.
Laric as female? On the one hand, many people only see what they expect, but 500 years is a long time too keep such a secret, scars may hide the breasts, but can they explain the no male parts? Even an angel needs too pee or do all monks have their own private facilities? I don't know how bad the injuries where when Laric arrived. And if he/she was able to care for himself without help. And would the parents think of asking shelter among so many men? Apart from considering the option would they think it a safe place? No other women around and very vulnerable? given the injuries and the isolation that goes with such imperfections? It could be the real reason for staying in his rooms, because those cloaks can cover everything including the scars.
Closest name too Laric i can find is Alaric and that is only used for a male. Could be a fake name of course, either too hide better or too create distance from the trauma that caused the massive damage. I got the impression that the name was not recognized by Caliane though most children would be since they are few.
Illium and Aodhan are imho too close for sexual relationship, it would get in the way. We are not used too it anymore, but touch was much more part of male friendships say 100 years ago.
I don't think that Illium and Aohdan will be come a couple. Illium went through a hard time when his father left and the Humming bird was "wounded". Aohdan was probably his one constant in his life that helped him through it. Raphael made a comment that he saw firsthand what it did to a mated pair when one willing chooses to Sleep and leave the other behind. I think he was referring to Illium's parents. Illium not being able to survive losing Aohdan is more about not losing family. I don't think Suyin is a good match for Aohdan but a good one for Illium. Both of them will probably find a mate that is a female version of each other.
I love this series the best of what Nalini Singh has written and I really like having such a strong "base couple" to come back to as Elena and Raphael are. Too many books now a days have triangles and a lot of waffling back and forth.
I feel like this book was a small stepping stone in the series. Not a lot of the main plot was moved forward but I think a lot of pieces were placed for future use. It was really nice to have a follow up with past characters.
A theory that I have been thinking about for awhile now is that there is going to need to be a significant time skip. There were 2 years between Enigma and this book but I think there still needs to be more. Everything in the immortal world is very slow moving and their version of fast is like 100 years. Even with the Cascade speeding things up I think even a decade isn't long enough to reasonably draw out the entirety of this world changing event. Especially with Lijuan now supposedly sleeping. Angels are meant to sleep for a long time and she was quite injured in the last encounter so having her wake up in say another two years doesn't seem long enough based on previous instances. Which I think is why Elena's grandparents were introduced. Elena's core support group is mortal and will not be around forever. Having her grandparent's be there for her will help blunt the blow of eventually losing so many people. There is always a strong emphasis on family in Nalini's books so having her immortal grandparent's will mean that element can still be there post time skip when the cast changes and people pass away. I would also think that such a time skip would be after people have passed on so that it's not such an emotional shock for the reader. Reading about Sarah and co dying past tense would be easier that reading through it while it't happening. This would also give time for other characters to develop to the point where they would be ready for their own books. I think this two year time skip was a test to see how well we as the readers could connect with the characters after not having been there for every moment. Nalini is also very good about writing side stories so we as readers could easily get caught up with the significant moments that way.
I think the Hummingbird is going to get her own book. There are too many references to her scattered throughout, all of it in mystery, that need to be resolved.
My theory -- She's going to be at her new job, overseeing things, and somehow will encounter Reed. He was mentioned in passing a couple of times in this book, sort of in passing. Calliane remembered and missed him, and someone else mentioned him as the former head of the Lumenati...presumably one who served with decency and respect.
I think he's a calm, soothing, spiritual person who will help her heal.
I looooooooooooved this book so much!! :) Lumia was such an interesting setting and I totally loved getting to know Aodhan better. He is quickly becoming my favorite of the Seven and I really hope that we will learn his whole story in one of the upcoming books.
I also really really loved the little glimpses of Raphael and Elenas little niece, as well as Zoe (even if they were just Elenas memories). I really want to read about Raphael and Elena baby-sitting, that sounds like the cutest thing ever, haha :D.
I am kinda starting to like Tasha, darn! I had sworn to hate her forever :D. Though I really hope that she will not be the love interest for any of the seven, cause I really just don't want to see that. She is too hung up on Raphael, I don't think I would like reading her story any time soon...
And Aodhan, whaaaaa, I am so in LOVE O.o
I think the bromance between Aodhan and Illium could easily be a romance, though I fear that it will never happen, though I would really love to see them as a couple :). I agree that deep friendships between non-lovers are totally possible and it doesn't always have to be romance, but if you swap Illium for a female than most people would see a romantic relationship between him and Sparkle as a total possibility. The fact that they are both male shouldn't change that, should it? I just really hope that if they are not intended to be each others end-game, it will be made clear soon, I just really don't want to read queer-baiting like V and Butch in the BDB series again, I hated that so much. Nalinis books have super divers characters and I really love that very very much, so I am sure she will not queer-bait as Ward did, though!
I really loved this book <3 <3 <3 <3 , Elena and Raphael were just fantastic. They love is so strong now. I really want to see Jean-Baptiste and Jeffrey first encounter, I'm really sure he will hit him for what he has done to Elena in the past, he deserves it. I want a book of Elijah and Hannah or Titus or Alexander , I can't wait!!! But I don't ship Alexander/ Caliane because it is well-known that Caliane loved Nadiel and even going crazy after his death. Maybe for him another angelical woman. And Titus need a warrior consort now!! he is so lovely.
Not sure why people keep inferring a Bluebell + Sparkle relationship. Of COURSE Sparkle's "death" would mean more to Illium than his mortal lover. Why? Because she was MORTAL. There was never any mention that they wanted to make her a vampire. Illium expected her to die and he eventually got used to the idea of her dying. With Aodhan and other "immortals" the thought of death is probably ephemeral. You know that it's possible and may happen eventually, but you can hope that it's never going to happen, either.
Personally, I was a little disappointed in this "placeholder" of a book, because that's how it read to me. Not a full book, not much added to the plot--just a placeholder for more things to come. None of which were really teased about in this book, either.
I'm really interested in knowing who the 3rd is that can take out Lijuan.
First I just want to thank Nalini for yet another amazing novel. I agree with some of the others that this story didn't do much in the way of moving the larger plot forward, but it was great to get so many lovely scenes that deepened my understanding of the characters and this beautifully diverse world she's created. It was great to learn more about the Cadre and how they interact with one another. I really enjoyed getting know Hannah better too. There were so many wonderful things in this book, and still I just want to see more. I do wish we could have seen Aodhan & Illium's reconcilation as I have no doubt in my mind that they will. I know we are all divided about seeing a romantic relationship between them. I will only say that it isn't up to us. In truth it isn't even up to Nalini. She has proven time and again that she discovers her characters through the story and she writes them true to who they are and what they want. That is one of the things I love most about this series. The characters are so intricate and truly have a life of their own. The heroes are flawed and the villains have shining moments that make you have a heart for them (even if only for a moment). I have my own secret wishes for Aodhan and Illium (as I do for many of her characters), and while the waiting game can be agonizing for us all, what is in store for these two will only be revealed when they are ready and when they understand their own feelings. Love and sex don't go hand in hand, and of course you can have one without the other, but who are we to decide what form their love will take? All I can do is love them and eagerly wait to see what happens next.
Thank you again Nalini for having such a wonderful imagination, a beutiful heart, and an open mind.
Love the books because I love the characters. A deep, heartfelt thank you to you, Ms. Singh. And to fellow readers: Illium and Aodhan, it's coming. Get ready! It's been foreshadowed and it fits the characters. I am very happy for them and can't wait to see how the story unfolds ;) Team Sparkly Bluebell for the win!

I don't think Bluebell will be with Aodhan, the love they share is like Elena and Sara , like brothers. I also want to know about Suyin, she needs a warrior consort , maybe Titus or Alexander ;) Thank you for the books Nalini. Please give us a hint about the next couple <3
Please leave Bluebell and Adohan as friends. I am in love with their brotherly relationship. Who would not want a real friend lthat is completely sold out for his brother. It's nice to read. I love reading about all the Seven. Nalini is the very best.
Luv the series. Can't wait for Jeffrey to met the grandparents. I hope we get a closer look at Aodhan, Illium, and Venom. I would like to know Venom's real name. I'm also curious to learn what exactly happened to Aodhan and why no one say anything about Illium's father or why the Hummingbird is so sad. Wouldn't it be something if Laric turns out to be Illium's dad. OMG!!! Can't wait for the next book.
For me, Aodhan and Illium have a deep and true friendship and I loved how Nalini did show us Aodhan`s healing process. Laric will help him too (and vice versa). I really hope, that Raphael can heal a bit of his scar tissue. And I´m also looking forward for a bit more of Keir. He is interesting and very complex.
Jeffrey and his former parents-in-law... - A meeting would probably tear up old memories, but otherwise it could be a chance for him to come to terms with oneself. I´m curious what Nalini will do.

I loved the book, a mix of everything I like and more. I want to see the new powers that will defeat Lijuan Monster, the next book is Venom!!!= ^. ^= S2
I am not against a passion Ilium and Aodhan, but I would have liked more of them just as heart brothers. I was looking forward to the young ladies who were going to heal these troubled and wounded boys ...
Ps: Sorry for the spelling mistakes, I translated everything into "google translator".

OMG!!
Loved Madja and her husband. Aodhan needs to learn to control his artistic temperament. Loved baby Maggie with her anniellie.
I can't wait to see how Elena's grandparents interact with the rest of the characters.
I can't wait until Jeffery sees Madja.
Patricia S
(I need to read that he made up with Illium...Im dying here T.T)
Also the Picture of Nadiel... gosh, so lucky Caliane didnt see that, or Raphael. Such creepy assholes, leaving something horrible like that up for his grieving Family to see. (Even though now I still dont know if Nadiel had blond hair now under the fire or not... also the Gold eyecolour? Hm? Shit I would really love to know what Kind of wings he had...but anyhow now we know he Looks like Raphael, so one hell of a hunk there)
Also Elena now has her grandparents. Uh, I adore them already :)
I also wondered about how Jeffrey was going to react to them or they to him.
I liked Astaad in that one...Raphael and Elena being lovey-dovey make him miss his Mele, awwwwww my heart, archangel!
Lijuan...probably didnt go to sleep, dont think so, she thinks herself much to great for something "earthly" like that. She is probably being creepy somewhere (I kinda like here she makes such a great villain with all the creepy I-am-god-thoughts)
Anyways, loved the book (like always) and already waiting hard for the next one (while still waiting for the german Edition of Allegiance of honor...December just come I beg you T.T)
---------
Their friendship is still very powerful and a great example to others without it having to be romantic or sexualised.
(sorry for my english, I'm french ^^)
I loved this book !!!
Loved this book!
Whoa, as SEA mentioned, could Laric be a female angel? This never crossed my mind while reading, but is it possible? Aodhan & Laric?!

What if Lijuan is in anshara, not asleep?
I think Tasha will wind up with Alexander. Anyone else would be a step backwards for her.
Aodhan and Illeum need a book with details about the Hummingbird's past and how life is going in Morocco.
I would love novellas about Eli and Hannah...something present day with a memory sequence about how they met. Since Calliane is so fond of Hannah, guessing they were together when Eli ascended. We know it happened after a great battle....really need that backstory.
Is it me or is Elena evolving alongside Rafael?
I mean, why Did her eyes go silver flame when she was talking mind to mind with Rafael while wandering around the village?
@Patricia Ann Bello
I don'the think exactly that she is evolving, however it may be that, because she is so connected to Raphael, she is progressing and strengthening faster than she would if there was no Cascade, and the fact itselfor that she was talking to Raphael and not someone else may have influenced the "silver flame". Obviously it helps that Elena, if given her time, would became a very powerful angel after all it has been inted that she will be once older).
@ Amanda Montoya
I agree with you.
@Barbara
I don't see Tasha falling with someone who isn't an Archangel as a step backward but on the contrary I think it would help her understand that when it comes to love her hero doesn't necessary need to be super strong.
Ps: Sorry for my misunderstanding
So I wonder how this will turn out...
@Nidhi
Next year for sure during these period.
I'd love the idea of Mahiya-spy xD but I am afraid that she is too sweet nature to be a hard-ass spy ^^
Just realized I posted this in the wrong spot.
I am very happy for them and can't wait to see how the story unfolds ;)
Team Sparkly Bluebell for the win!

I don't think Bluebell will be with Aodhan, the love they share is like Elena and Sara , like brothers. I also want to know about Suyin, she needs a warrior consort , maybe Titus or Alexander ;)
Thank you for the books Nalini.

Sparkle and Bluebell love ?... no, no and no. Thank you that's all. Btw Love the book.
Hello, I'm a Brazilian fan of guild hunter !!!
