Julie James - About That Night

Julie James is one of my go-to authors for smart, sexy contemporary romance and About That Night was no exception. I raced through Kyle and Rylann's story - and spent much of the book with a smile on my face.

If you're looking for a great contemporary romance, definitely check out Julie's books.

Here's the blurb for About That Night:
He’s playing games.

Though Rylann Pierce tried to fight the sparks she felt for billionaire heir Kyle Rhodes the night they met, their sizzling chemistry was undeniable. But after being stood up on their first date, Rylann never expected to see him again. So when she finds herself face-to-face with Kyle in a courthouse nine years later, she’s stunned. More troubling to the beautiful assistant U.S. attorney is that she’s still wildly attracted to him.

But she’s making the rules.

Just released from prison, Kyle Rhodes isn’t thrilled to be the star witness in a high-profile criminal case—but when Rylann comes knocking at his door, he finds she may be the one lawyer he can’t say no to. Still as gorgeous and sharp-tongued as ever, she lays down the law: she doesn’t mix business with pleasure. But Kyle won’t give up on something he wants—and what he wants is the one woman he’s never forgotten.
You can also read an excerpt on Julie's site.

We often talk about paranormal authors on the blog - how about discussing your favorite contemporary romance authors/books today? Which authors do you love?

p.s. I know there's an issue with some of you being unable to comment - we're working on it, and hope to have it sorted soon!

Julie James is my favorite contemporary romance author. I pre-ordered this book months ago and I can't wait to finally get it.

Sorry can't answer the question about other contemporary authors. I'm on too much of a Julie James high. Wowsa. There are lots of authors who write funny...but dang Ms. James does witty so so well.

From A Lot Like Love:
“Any special plans for Valentine’s Day, Jordan?” Melinda asked. Jordan paused midsip at the question. This weekend? No special plans, really. Just helping the FBI infiltrate the lair of a wealthy restaurateur who launders money for a notorious drug cartel. You?
Corinne chimed in. “Isn’t this the weekend of Xander Eckhart’s party?”
Jordan held her breath in a silent plea. Don’t ask if I’m bringing anyone. Don’t ask if I’m bringing anyone.
“So are you bringing anyone?” Melinda asked.

From Something About You:
The cousins’ mouths dropped open as each of them caught their first glimpse of Jack. He wore jeans and a dark blazer with an open-necked shirt. Objectively, Cameron knew what they saw: the tall, dark, whatever-ness; the gorgeous face, blah, blah; the sexy, lean, body that was tailor-made for all kinds of sin—who cared? Certainly she wasn’t paying any attention to those things.

I actually read very little contemporary. I'm trying out Susan Mallery's Fool's Gold series, but it's been hit-or-miss so far and I'm not super impressed. I read Nora Robert's books (not In Death), and I usually like her work. Enough to get them first at the library, but I don't always buy them for my library.

I always end up dissapointed with contemporaries, but if it's recommended by you, Nalini, I'm willing to try it out ^_^

I enjoy most things by

Kristan Higgins
Susan Elisabeth Phillips
Sophie Kinsella (esp early shopaholic series)

and Alice Hoffman (more magic realism but couldn't resist a plug for one of my favourite books, 'The Probable Future')

That being said i feel like i need to get a t-shirt saying "NOTHING beats Nalini!"

Happy Reading guys! :)

Sarah Mayberry is awesome. Shannon Stacey--seriously, have you read the Kowalskis? I just discovered Sarah M Anderson. Oh and Karina Bliss.

I'm leaving names out but that's all I got now.
