Welcome to bookalcohic's anonymous. This is a group that reads a lot, buys books a lot, and doesn't get rid of them. Book or going out? The book wins every time. ๐
I have better luck looking at a shelf and asking is there any book here I probably won't want to read again. It's easier to give them up just one book at a time. That said I have over half a dozen tall bookshelves all around the house, and two boxes of To-Be-Read books. I am afraid I'm a definite bookaholic!
I give up my books one at a time as I come across one I won't read again. My mother never wants to part with them so every once in a while I pile a shelf full of books next to her and make her go through them. 3 are given sway, 6 are placed next to her tobe reread and the rest goes back on the shelf.
I am a serious book addict and will join any anonymous that is required to be able to keep on with my addictions (not get rid of them). :-) Everytime I try to go through my bookcase, I put books in a box to donate, then a week later I go through the box and put them back on the shelf. Let's not talk about e-books! The the first e-reader was supposed to help reduce my physical book footprint. I don't think it helped. Sometimes I have two copies, one physical and one electronic because I was traveling and didn't want to wait until I got home to the physical one in my mailbox. SMH
