Yay. Less than an hour to go. 57 minutes...

I didn't get my nap in like I'd planned, but will start it anyway. Who needs sleep, right?

It's finally mine. Bought it at midnight, took a pretty picture for Instagram, and then my tablet decided to go all wonky *sob*.

But it's working now and I am reading. #TeamStarlightandHerTeddyBear!

There seems to be a conflict with the dates you have published. Your header has New Zealand and Australia (all formats) on the 13th with the US (usually US time not Australian time), but Amazon :au says the 15th with the UK. Really disappointing that it's that way, all set ready to read tonight, but now...

Shall just have to cancel dinner plans later in the week.

Hi Anon - I'm sorry about that. We were told 13th as the Aus/NZ release date, but it turns out the ebook is linked to the UK release date, which is the 15th. The print editions, however, are out in Aus/NZ. I hope you enjoy the book when it arrives. :-)

Got it when I woke up for work this morning (5:00 am Central Daylight Time US). Started reading before work. All I'm going to say is "oh boy!".

Woke up too early, remembered it was due to be released and started reading. Finished a little before 8:00 am, local time. It lived up to my expectations, which were extremely high.

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it in my kindle library this morning, totally for got that I had pre-ordered it. Already started reading it on my way into work, can't wait to get back to reading it.

Why is the ebook so expensive? Is this normal? I just went to buy it and it is US$13.99. Is this a new price? Did I buy the last ebook at this price and forgot about it? Why do I feel so shocked? Is this normal? Let me know.

Dear Gartside Report.
The price of eboooks, at least in North America is tied to whether the print edition is hard cover or paperback. Silver Silence is being released first as a hard cover. Price of ebook drops to what you have probably paid in the past once the paperback edition is released. Publishers trying to max their profit I guess. Not the author's decision. I read Cherry Adair and for one of her trilogies the first two came out in paperback only, the third came out in hard cover first. When I questioned (alright complained) about this on her feedback page I got an immediate response that the publisher makes this decision not the author and she recommended I borrow from my local library and then buy when paperback came out. She completely understood and felt my frustration.
Basically once an author's series achieves a certain level of popularity new books start to be released in hard cover first. I have noticed this usually happens with a special story for example New York to Dallas by J.D. Robb (first hardcover and did not include in Death in the title); Dark Christmas by Christine Feehan (although a single couple was highlighted it was a what's going on with all our earlier couples story as well). I guess publisher saw Allegiance of Honour as a special book as it was released as a hardcover first(readers know all her books are but this one is starting a new season/ story arc). As was the case with the examples I gave my guess is that from now on Nalini's Psy / Changeling books will all come as hard covers first.

Hope this helps explain things. I don't much like it either but there are few authors I am willing to spend the money on so I don't have to wait for my own copy (I am wondering if this will happen to Ilona Andrews books soon). Again this is a publisher decision not an author's.
Also this is my understanding of the situation based on my experience, if someone believes I am wrong please feel free to correct me.

ladyreadsalot66 thanks so much, your in-depth explanation hit the spot and answered every question I had. I appreciate it. I knew there was something I was missing and it's a great comfort having a community that will take the time to answer your questions when you appeal for help.

Finished it a little while ago and now doing a reread. Can't wait for the spoiler thread as I have a few questions. Overall I loved it.

@Gartside Report, Allegiance of Honor was $13.99 when originally released. I think Shards of Hope was $10.99 as was Shield of Winter. The price should go down to $7.99-ish when the paperback releases.

Thankfully, with Nalini's books you don't have to wait a full year as with many other authors as the paperback release is usually scheduled after 6 months (so if it follows the pattern of the past few years should release sometime in December). The JD Robb books also release in paperback after 6 months. Psy/Changeling has been hardcover since Kiss of Snow and the In Death series has been since Remember When. That series is tougher as it's two hardcover books a year. At least the digital price isn't quite as high as the hardcover books retail for.

But I have noticed Penguin and St Martins have inched up the digital release prices by a $1 or $2 compared to a few years ago (so where prices used to be $10.99 or $11.99 now $13.99 and $14.99 are more common). But I don't mind paying the full amount for certain series including this one. I do miss the days when Agency pricing wasn't a thing though.

@Gartside Report, I feel your confusion about book prices. It gets crazy. I'm probably showing my age for this, but I remember when paperback books were anywhere from $4.99 - $6.99. I have some old books from my mom that were less than a dollar (all U.S. prices). I agree with @library addict in that I buy e-books at full hardcover price for certain authors (Nalini being one) since I love the series.

By the way: I love teddy bears! Still savoring Silver Silence. Haven't finished it yet since I've been laughing too hard at bear tactics (and work interferes with reading time).

In thanks to your post in goodreads

Your writing is beautiful and I trust you to keep my H and h happy as in HEA (there maybe a little ups and downs but their HEA will be solid).I dont easily trust authors .Thanks much for being true to the HEA and us.Love you for that.

Realistic fiction has its place as does all other genre.. for me Romance is as you said a place for hope, dreams ,a wish fulfillment...an escape , a comfort .. a return to our favorite people and places...

As you said heartbreaking ending is okay as long as you don't label it Romance or try to justify it..neither is cheating or anything allowed in Romance.. here it should be ideal ... a place where we can believe that .. yes our H and h will be the best.. will strive for the best... or will slowly change for the better. .
Keep writing

I have been a fan since I read Annie and Zack's story, in a Christmas anthology. Each subsequent book has just delighted me more. Silver silence not only lived up to the hype and expectations - it far surpassed them. Can't wait to start reading the spoilers, so many new characters, so many new possibilities.

I am currently re-reading my hardback copy and enjoying it a great deal. I just wish I didn't have to wait a year for my next fix. Thanks Nalini for a great series that I can recommend to others. You do great work. You are one of the few authors I buy new when the book comes out. Usually I check it out from the library and buy a paperback later, used. This fits my very limited budget for books.

However I buy your books used at a local bookstore. This has one advantage when I reserve the book in advance. They call when they get the book in, and I have had it a day early the last couple years. I pay the higher price so I can support local, but I do enjoy having access before it would show up if mailed, since my mail comes late in the day.

I enjoyed the peek into the Mercant family and its ways and I'm looking forward to future books in the Trinity arc. Thanks again.

I don't read e-books and I buy my
