Angels' Pawn is out! Psst...something cool in the post [Edited]

Winner of special giveaway: The random numbers have chosen a winner and it's Lisa (comment began with: My ideal place is a comfy chair with plenty of light, a never ending supply of my preferred soda and no one...). Lisa, please email me at nalinisinghwrites AT gmail DOT com.

Angels' Pawn
is now officially out! Currently, it's available in Kindle; Mobi Pocket, Adobe (pdf), eReader, Microsoft Reader (at Books on Board), at Diesel E-Books; and in Sony Reader formats.

Here's the blurb:

Angels' Pawn introduces readers to a world of beauty and danger where angels and vampires coexist. The novella is the prequel to Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series. In Atlanta, a vampire hunter is caught between two rival factions and the angel who is manipulating them both. Her only assistance comes from a vampire who may have his own reasons for helping her...
You can read a snippet here.

Edited to Add: Courtney asked this question in the comments, and I thought I'd answer it here:
if we don't read Angel's Pawn, will we be missing anything essential for Angel's Blood?

The answer is no. I wrote Angels' Pawn so that it's a stand-alone novella. You can read it at any stage in the series. Angels' Blood is the first book of the series - so dive on in! :-)

___________

I promised you something special to celebrate this release, and here it is. I have a novella coming out in September, in the Must Love Hellhounds anthology with three completely awesome authors - Charlaine Harris, Meljean Brook and Ilona Andrews.

My novella is titled Angels' Judgment. And if you're the random winner of this giveaway, I will print out and send you a signed copy of the galleys for Angels' Judgment as soon as I get them. You'll get to read it before all your friends *grin*

Just leave a comment with your answer to the question below to enter the giveaway. I hope you all enjoy Angels' Pawn!

Today's question comes from me: If you could create your dream environment for reading, what would it be? A comfy couch, a cup of tea? A lush bed full of pillows and chocolates at your command? Simple peace and quiet? Gorgeous eye-candy?

For me it would be a comfy couch, music playing in the background (like LOTR soundtrack or something similar) and no one who disturbs me so that I fully dive into the story and loose myself in it.

Anonymous said...

A chair that gets never uncomfortable, no matter how long I sit in it - so I don't have to change position and take a short break of the story if I don't want to.
Coffee and water should be nearby and chocolate is never wrong.
The whole thing should be set up in a library, a little hidden away so people can't see me, but I can see them. [Although other people there are optional.]

While I like the idea of eye candy there, I don't think I'd get much reading done if there was... :)

Blodeuedd said...

A huge bed with lots of comfy pillows, some chocolate near by, just the right amount of light. A fireplace, silence or nice music...oh and i wont say no to that eyecandy ;) But dunno if i can focus then

Angela said...

For me, it's a comfy oversized chair, with arms that I can throw my legs over, a supply of something to drink, and peace and quiet. Of course my dog would be laying at my feet *g*

Mandi said...

A big comfy chair, nice warm blanket, maybe a fire going in the fireplace. Lots of quiet...coffee, wine, snacks available on request(served by said eye candy) :)

Amy C said...

You got two of them in your question...a comfy overstuffed bed with lots of quiet. No chocolate though :).

I love sitting inside all dry and warm while the rain is pattering away, so I'd love to read with a really comfy chair to curl up in, with peace and quiet (and no one disturbing my reading time) and a cup of hot chocolate or even tea. I get so absorbed in a book while reading that I wouldn't notice any background music.

May said...

I love reading in bed so my dream environment would be a my bed with a very quite evening.

Haylo said...

My perfect reading place is a huge chair that I can recline in, almost as if I were laying down on a bed. I'd want it to be warm but not hot, and some quiet white noise in the background. No kids, no family, no one knocking on my door and interrupting!

Chris said...

Ah, at an outdoor cafe in Santa Fe in Taos, in a comfy chair with my feet up and a margarita in my hand.

Anonymous said...

It would have to be a big comfy bed with tons of pillows and my dogs around me. An unlimited supply of books just waiting for me would also be a plus.

Missy Ann said...

My dream environment for reading is everywhere. It would be to be able to turn down the distracting noises, turn up the lights, turn off the idiot box anywhere, anytime, I wanted. Oh and of course have an unlimited supply of books on hand at all times.

Anonymous said...

Ooh - a hammock shaded by a few trees with the sound of the surf in the background, a long, tall drink of something cool and a big fat chocolate cake!

Brooke Reviews said...

I'd love to have a huge plush couch on the beach. lol Since the probably isn't possible, just a huge lush couch. Maybe one of those double papazan chairs to curl up in. A soft blanket would be nice, and endless dove chocolates. :D

KT Grant said...

My dream environment would be sitting on the beach in a wonderful lounge chair with the breeze in my hair and an unlimited supply of drinks at my disposal from coffee, soda, booze, whatever.
Cheers to all your success Nalini!

1. a huge comfy couch that i can stretch in and big pillows
2. a nice soft blanket
3. air conditioning cuz it gets too warm in my part of the world
4. accessible junk food
5. unlimited supply of books from my fave authors
6. my comfiest pair of jammies
7. foot rub by said eye candy optional

Courtney said...

My perfect reading environment is free of children and husbands, free of ringing phones and laundry that needs to be done, free of kid shows and, in fact, any TV that might distract me. I'd need a comfy chair/couch where I could relax in virtually any position. For food and drink, I'd want a mini buffet of chocolate, sushi, onion rings, and a selection of juices and green tea.

Not that I've given any thought to this or anything...LOL

Nalini, I have a question for you: if we don't read Angel's Pawn, will we be missing anything essential for Angel's Blood?

Erika Powell said...

for me it is a lounge chair out by the pool with unlimited sweet tea in the hottest part of the summer. that is where I get my best reading done

Wendy said...

Congrats on Angels' Pawn!

Now, I have a SPECIFIC outline for what my reading room will be once I get my own house. I've never told anyone but I'll let you guys in the Major Secrit Plans:

Ok, so it's a room (I KNOW!) but ALL it has is my bookshelves, a lovely big window that looks out into a lake

(I changed my mind from a forest because I kept thinking that whenever I was in here [which admittedly weren't going to be a lot of time] I would keep thinking that some CREEP is hiding in the trees staring at me. I can't read like that!)

A comfy chair that can double as a bed by the click of a button (they need to get into making this, STAT) A chair by to hold my snacks, drinks and a lamp.

And possibly a office desk where I write my Important Blogs, and such.

But mostly just read.

Wendy said...

But seriously, I'd read anywhere. As long as my butt's not numb and I've got some light so I don't go blind, I'm good. :)

JH said...

Outdoors. The weather would always be perfect. There would be no interruptions. I would have the perfect chair and all the books I covet stacked right next to me.

Anonymous said...

Reading is special, its magical and at its best its so engrossing that I don't know where I am or what's going on around me. I love those moments when I look up and realize that the world has gone on, that time had has stood still only for me. But my favorite spot is my very own bed, with bolster and pillows, it is an island of comfort and peace and cats. This is their favorite spot too and they enjoy reading time almost as much as I do, resting their heads on my feat, legs, lap or on each other with only the occasional eye opening to check that I haven't moved from my guardian post. Peace! Bliss! Cats! Books!

Marnie said...

Comfy Couch with loads of pillows on my veranda overlooking the ocean. I nice blanket to stave off the slight chill and a cup of peppermint tea. It can be slightly raining or very clear. I wouldn't mine be snuggled up with someone delicious who was reading his own book.

Anonymous said...

On a hammock on the beach. Temperature should be hot (but not too hot) with a cooling breeze. Chilled water and delicious desserts will be nearby. And my ipod full of my fav songs and vids. *sigh* Life couldn't get any better.

Unknown said...

Outside, perfect amount of breeze/sun/shade with no bugs, and an ever-full but changeable drink and snack tray.

That said, I would settle for a warm, comfy chair, and no interruptions - no kids, no husbands, no phones, no bathroom breaks :).

Thanks so much for all these contests!

KJsGrrl said...

The ideal is somewhere where the kids cannot bother me! LOL If not that, then a big comfy chair with a blanket, hot chocolate, and music playing in the background.

kim said...

A comfy chair on the porch on a pretty spring day.

I love to read when the kids are at school and I can read peacefully.
I usually read on the comfy couch with a big soft pillow and throw. I like chocolate occasionally mostly I love having my rte. 44 cherry vaniila sprite from Sonic. And I really enjoy the peace and queit.

A comfy couch with a cup of hot cocoa and some cookies to much on.

Danni T said...

For me it would be an overstuff chair that you just sink into to, with an ottoman to put me feet up on. Chocolate and something to drink on the table next to me. And quiet.

Ashley said...

it would be a big comfy chair in a quiet (no kids! lol) room surrounded by my books.

Anonymous said...

I love to read on my couch, wrapped in a warm blanket (we have lots of snow in Munich right now) with a glass of my favourite wine and my two cats to keep me company.

Anonymous said...

My perfect environment would be a big comfy couch, some water and coffee near by, along with lots of chocolate and chips. But what'll make my environment really perfect would be absolute silence...no phones, no music, no TV, no people...just me and my books :D

Anonymous said...

My dream reading area, would be my own library turret room with a fireplace and a nice extra big comfy lounger in front of it. There would be wall to ceiling built-in bookcases and one wall with a huge window with an extra deep window seat that had drapes that when drawn would be secluded so the person (me) and her cats can't be seen by anyone entering the room.
Sigh, and a mini fridge and microwave so I could prepare a snack and grab a drink without putting down my book.

Anonymous said...

A comfy overstuffed recliner, a tray beside it with something good to drink on it (hot coco, milk, dependson weather), chocolate or brownies, and peace and quiet. course the eye candy can make food and deliver it when needed ::::sigh:::

Leontine said...

Think Beauty And The Beast library with my very own Gaston and Lumiere. Through the windows I see a snow covered valley as a fire is roaring inside. I am all snuggled up in my leather worn couch with an endless supply of books, good food and non-intrusive background music.

CrystalGB said...

For,me it would be a big comfy bed with lots of pillows and a cool drink on the nightstand.

azteclady said...

Peace and quiet--couch or bed are okay--and my s.o. around so we can read out loud to each other.

I mean, we already do that, and it's heaven

Anonymous said...

A comfy couch, snacks at the ready, a big soda that doesn't get warm or start to loose its fizz and most importantly no one else home. Just me and my animals. Ahh, perfection.

FD said...

Oh, I dream of a deep inset wide windowseat, with mullioned windows that the rain drips down and makes pretty patterns on and which open outwards so I can dangle my legs in summer. There would be many squashy cushions and a cosy quilt. This should be set in the window of a wall in the Beast's castles library, so nobody could disturb me and I never, ever run out of things to read. The Beast's invisible servants ala McKinley would be cool too - I'd never run out of coffee either.

donnas said...

A comfy couch or chair works for me with no interruptions.

Anonymous said...

The perfect place to read for me is a lazy chair with something to drink and something to eat (well actually snack, like in chocolate) and than just me and my book. When I imagine it, I feel fabulous.

Lisa said...

My ideal place is a comfy chair with plenty of light, a never ending supply of my preferred soda and no one trying to get my attention away from the book. Of course the eye candy could be my slave while I was reading and get me whatever I needed. :)

Lisa said...

My ideal reading place is a nice soft comfortable sofa, nice soft cuddly blanket and then a neverending cup of diet mt. dew. Then a great book and I'm all set.

A comfy rocking chair, a soft blanket, a roaring fire, and a cup of hot chocolate! No cats, no husband :D

Jess (The Cozy Reader) said...

Comfy would have to be like floating on a cloud, unable to feel any pressure any where.

Lighting would be perfect and my hands would never tire from holding my Kindle. I would have an endless supply of caffeine and never have to stop reading to pee.

Of course, a place like this doesn't exist so I would have to be in a dream world, which is cool by me. :)

Darcy Jo said...

I always read in bed, so my perfect reading environment would be a big, comfy bed with lots of plush pillows and comfy blankies where my feet never get too hot and my arms never get too cold and fall asleep, lol.

I did read someone else's comment though, and I love the idea of a hammock on the sand at a *warm* beach (since we don't have those in Oregon) with trees to shade me from the sun. That may be my new fantasy reading environment :-)

As for the eye candy . . . I never say no to eye candy . . but it's fully unnecessary when I'm reading, lol!

Anonymous said...

Outdoors at some remote cabin in the mountains with a huge cup of steaming chai. If I close my eyes, I can picture it!

My favorite place to read is snuggled into bed, while the house is quiet(aka kid free.)

Have a great day!

Shaymless Aymless said...

I'm also going with the comfy chair. An endless pot of tea that never gets cold and an endless plate for those little finger sandwiches as munchies.
And a big pile of my favorite authors that came out with really great books one after another.

My own library in a captain's watch tower on the coast, so I could be surrounded by the power of the ocean at the same time I'm reading in one of those couches that's made for readers. Yeah. I could read for hours there.

Unknown said...

Ohh what a great prize!
So I'm currently attempting to create this at my house..I would love to have a small, cozy, sunny room, lined with built in bookshelves (I saw some in ikea that I really want) with comfy couch next to a table with a coffee machine, and a day bed next to the window (so I have a choice). I also want a thick, plush rug on the ground to complete the picture :)

Anonymous said...

I used to have this chair that my firends called The Barge. It was a wave chair covered in gold velvet. I gave it away to a woman that didn't have any furniture for herself or her young kids and I figured that she could have all three of her kids plus herself on the chair comfortably and read to them. Random acts of kindness and all that good stuff, but I really miss my Barge! I'd place it between a big picture window and the fireplace and have a small side table with just enough room for peppermint tea and chocolate cookies.

Unknown said...

For me it would be on a balcony on a warm, sunny day, in an extremely comfortable recliner with a glass of lemon ice water at my elbow and the sound of the ocean around me.

Whenever I look up from the book, I can see the waves crashing against the beach.

Ahh. Total fantasy.

My perfect reading environment would absolutely be one of these two:

1) On a comfy couch like the one in my parents' living room in a library where aaaaallllll the shelves are covered in books (fiction, research, workbooks, such and such), and the couch was perched under a window with sheer curtains. There'd be an iHome setup for my iPod so I could listen to music as I read. :)

2) On my futon/bed in my bedroom, beside a wall covered in posters, magazine clippings, and artwork (mine and others') with a good view of all my lovely, filled-up bookshelves, and my computer over on the desk on the other side of the entertainment center playing music. So basically... how my bedroom looks right now. ;) Well, except for the full bookshelves. Only one of them is completely full. I need to buy more books...

my dream reading enviroment would have to be a large couch big enough for me and my babies (two cats, one dog)with lots of throw pillows that is bathed in morning sunlight and lastly a radio playing in the background tuned to my fav music station.

For me it would totally be a comfy couch with lots of fluffy pillows and perfect lighting so I don't have to angle to get the perfect light. Also, I would want it to be a nice 75 degrees and totally quiet!~

Una said...

Yay! I love your novellas!

My perfect reading spot would be a VERY comfy bay window with pillows and a beautiful view. A small table nearby with a cup of steamy tea. The room would be either a library/study or living room with a fire place across the way. The dog curled at my feet and my cat curled up on my lap. Soft music playing in the background or better yet, a soft rain on the glass (which would require a wall light that perfectly illuminates my book).

Anonymous said...

The piece and quiet is a definite must. I wouldn't mind the comfy bed and loads of pillows either :D

twalls said...

A comfy couch on a deserted beach with the waves as background music and a gentle breeze. (Yes, a couch on a beach. It's my fantasy.) Next to me would be a small table with a big stack of my favorite books, a package of Oreos, and a cooler full of McDonald's sweet tea. In real life, I like to read in our downstairs living room while the rest of the family is UPstairs.

My dream environment for reading: A small isolated cabin in the mountains, with thick hemlock evergreens all around. Through the window, I can see the snow piled deep on the ground and watch it falling in fat, heavy, luscious flakes. Inside the cabin there's a crackling fire and the scent of cinnamon in the air. I'm nestled into a queen-sized bed with satiny, 1,000-thread-count sheets, lush pillows, and a thick downy comforter. The bed and linens are so plush and luxurious that they just envelop me. The bedside table beside me bosts a small lamp giving off a soft amber glow. My Siberian Husky, Bandit, is curled up against my left side, his head a warm weight on my stomach, his furry ears available to be touched and stroked. Occasionally he twitches and wuffles happily in his sleep as he chases dream-bunnies. My YogaZone CD is playing quietly in the background, soothing and calm and non-intrusive. A short-stemmed glass of fine Shiraz is at hand. The phone is unplugged...it's a four-day holiday weekend...and all is blissful in my perfect, isolated reader's paradise.

Nalini--Loved Angels' Pawn. Tell me that we get to see more of these two!

As for where I like to read, it mostly doesn't matter as long as I have my kindle and a decent cell signal. In the summer I really like to read on the patio in the garden. I've always wanted a fireplace to read by in the winter, but so far I'm still waiting!

4. Wintertime, with snow falling outside, but really late at night so no one bugs me
5. ARCs of books by favourite authors!! As well as my personal library at my disposal, in case I want to re-read.
6. The dog
7. Cranberry juice

I like for it to be quiet & dark. I could read in a chair, bed or the couch. I guess, when it comes down to it, I'm not picky where I read, I can make anyplace comfy.

Anonymous said...

For me it would be the softest plush bed in the middle of winter with the warmest blanket I could find surrounded by dozens of pillows to rest on. And the book would stay open without me constantly holding on to it. In that kind of environment I could stay there for days and never move...maybe only for a Twix.

Jeanne Ryan said...

I big raft in a pool where the water bobs just a bit. And a cloudy day, so there is no sun glaring in my eyes.

Anonymous said...

An overstuffed chaise lounge next to the fireplace, big enough to fit me and the furry critters in the house. And the book has to be in an eformat so I can download it onto my Palm. The Palm is nicely backlit, requiring no further lighting in the room besides the fire, AND it allows me to "turn the page" with one hand, thus leaving my other hand free to pet the aforementioned furry critters.

Bliss!

My ideal reading space is a cirular shaped room with book shelves custom made to fit, a view of the ocean from huge windows, a large, kidney-shaped burgundy couch with wide arms for resting your legs on and a pink fluffy blanket draped over the couch incase it gets cool. It would probably be someplace outside, for me. A porch swing or hammock in a nice place away from roads or industrial or city areas, so there's peace, quiet and fresh air--but with a house nearby so I can go fetch a sandwich or glass of lemonade without too long of a break in reading.

- lots of good sunlight
- various lamps for when there's no sunlight
- a hypoallergenic blanket
- throw pillows
- unlimited supply of tea
- some small tables strewn around to put said tea

...and i suppose this mythical room would have to be stationed near a bathroom because of all that tea..........

I'm a compulsive reader - anywhere is perfect if I have a book to read. I've been known to read while walking to work, while I vacuum (not recommended as one seems to miss many spots that way), while waiting in line at the grocery store, etc. For me, having something to read matters more than the locale or accessories.

I would like a bed with lots of fluffy pillows and voluminous white sheets - the kind of set up that's like sleeping in whipped cream. I want lots of natural light and a room that has no, er, junk all over it (this *is* a fantasy, right?). Bedside tables will have a supply of iced tea, cheese straws and fresh strawberries. A nearby fireplace wouldn't go amiss and neither would the occasional interruption for a neck and shoulder massage, just to keep me fresh for the next chapter...

I am happy to read just about anywhere at anytime, but my ideal place would be a comfy chair where the back can go all the way down to lie on. The chair would be on a beautiful sandy beach with the waves slowly rolling in and the sun would be shining with the temperature warm and a slight breeze blowing. I would have a handsome guy nearby to get my cool tall drinks and to rub suntan lotion on when necessary...ah, yes, that sounds good to me.

My own personal two-story library with big bay windows that let in plenty of light, but are tinted enough to keep from damaging the books. And since I can't read without noise there is of course an awesome sound system with speakers piping in music hidden all around the library.

What I want is simple. A comfortable couch and a warm blanket. Peace and quiet. No disruptions. That would be bliss.

Absolute silence, perfect lighting, my old comfy recliner with a soft blanket, a cup of tea by my side and a cat in my lap.

A comfy chair, a roaring fire, and a stack of books. I like to have peace and quiet, so I can concentrate on my book. I've read Angels Blood and loved it. I put a review of it on the Indigo.ca website. Now I need to read Angels Pawn.

To curl up on a couch or windowseat with the cat and a hot cup of tea and several hours to while away, as I read. Sheer heaven.

Dream Reading Environment: the comfiest armchair I could find, plush but with great back and neck support and wide, cushy arms and a tall, wide footrest--all covered in velvet. I'd put the armchair in the corner of the most isolated room in my house, with bookshelves on one side for easy reach and a long, low table on the other for snacks, drinks, and a cold eye mask to rest my eyes during marathon reading sessions. The lighting would have to be good, with little to no glare, hopefully as a lamp hanging from the ceiling.

Debby said...

For me it is a rocking chair next to a table with a light and big cup of hot tea. PErfcect.

anywhere is fine with me, as long as I don't have anyone bothering me...phone included.

A comfy bed, full of a mix of lush and supportive pillows for when I want to change positions. Discreet eye candy nearby to anticipate my slighest whim as far as nibbles and drinks go. A box of extra soft 3ply tissues infused with aloe for those emotional scenes and a few sarongs to use as light cover.

A table with an selection of beloved reads, ARCs from favourite authors and some random recommendations stands beside the bed.

The bed is inside a balé/fale/bure on a private tropical beach with palm trees swaying in the wind.

Perfect temperature, slight breeze, NO insects, just perfect...

I prefer reading on the couch because then I can stretch out, put my head down on a couple of pillows, get the proper lighting behind me... and fill the coffee table with reading essentials: a cup of coffee and a carafe for refills, some finger snacks that don't make a mess (no Doritos, sadly)... and no kids in the house to distract me...

Ah, to read is to dream...

For me it would be a big, comfy chair, peace and quiet with no interruptions and a steaming cup of chamomile tea.

My answer to your question is:
A comfy, lazy chair, nice music, a good book and some eyecandy waiting on me hand and foot!

when you say create your *dream* environment for reading...how out the world are we allowed to go?

Coz personally, for me, it would be floating with soft bubbles to lean on if i need it, ambient lighting all around... and that i dont have to hold the book up and get a sore arm/wrist for not being able to put the book down!!!!

and probably my favourite playlist off youtube playing in the background on random... includes all manner of songs, dramatic classical/film stuff, latino, soft and soothing, gothic, melancholic...etc. Not hiphop, or rap, be too jarring!

BUT if we talking about not so dream like... Then a pile of beanbags in a corner on a big soft mat/matress thing, hung over with veils/semi transparent materials, like a tent! and one of those wall lamps for just the book, and soft/darkly lit for the rest.

or a hammock instead of the beanbags, everything else the same (veils!)

:D

Chocolates sound really good! Same music as above!

Since we had a bizarre snowfall last night, I'm thinking of Spring. My dream place to read would be a gazebo hung with my oversized padded hammock, a light breeze blowing, zero insects, iPod, and a bell to ring the cabana boy when I need more high tea fixings (might as well go for the full fantasy ;-)

But your question is ironic because I was logging in to the comments to request that future e-books not disable printing. Reading even a novella while sitting at my desk takes some of the fun out of it, and I absolutely will not buy longer works that I can't print. In any case, by the time you apply DRM strong enough to inconvenience a pirate, you just make life hell for the honest majority. And I know all of this may be outside your control as this e-book went through your publisher and future ones may as well.

Huge comfy bed- with a throw blanket and in reach lots of favourite reread books or ARCs by autobuy authors and my favourite music to listen to. And oh yeah a cuppa and chocolates. Now that is what I would feel as a decadent night in :D

I need a comfy chair, lots of hot tea, something tasty to munch on and loads of peace and quiet.

I usually read on the train as my house is overrun with people most of the time..hehe!!

A seat that never gets uncomfortable, a blanket, thick and fluffy pillows to lean on and music in the background. Drinks nearby but nothing on demand... chocolate takes away from the experience (i know, I can barely believe i said that but chocolate is an experience itself to be enjoyed).

Chez said...

Definitely the bed with pillows, lots of pillows and perhaps a cabana boy to rub my feet ....mmmm yeah feet rubbing works for me. He could also bring chocolate and jelly babies, but remain mainly silent as he works so as not to disturb the reading LOL. You know how men whinge sometimes, yup silent and feet rubbing and jelly babies and choc and pillows. Heaven.

you stole the title of MY book.
Angels' Blood has been a Holiday Moon product for the last YEAR AND A HALF! I don't know how that happened.

The perfect reading enviroment for me, it in my boyfriend's bed. He has the softest and most confy bed ever, and i love cuddling with a book with him on the mornings reading anything... We both love to read and when i sleep over we make it a ritual to read there after breakfast... Even better he's my emotional outlet when i read something REALLY good ;)

My ideal reading spot would be that when I finished a book, the next book would magically appear in my hands by all my favorite authors. I would care less about the environment if a never ending supply of great books would appear.

I have read Angel's Pawn and loved it.

My ideal reading environment would be my very own personal library.

I would have a sofa lounger, filled with faux fur blankets in warm colours. Wooden floorboards with a shag type rug that tickles the feet. The fire would be roaring red amber, and the crackle of the coal would be heard.

Glossy, wooden bookcases would line the walls, and as my own personal librarian would be George Clooney. He would feed me chocolate coated strawberries, and then walk slowly but surely to me on the lounger. He would bend over, and...OK! I'll stop now. Just to save blushes. *grins*

And yes, I have dreamt this. Many times.

Dream reading environment? 68 degrees, sunny, but I'm inside, on an GIANT comfy couch, with snacks and whatever I feel like drinking. I'm also ALONE with nobody and nothing to bother me :D I'd read all day. Joy.

For me I imagine a room with large windows to let a lot of light in. The view outside is of a garden with trees (a lot of green). The weather is a bit overcast but not rainy, bright enough for there to be light but not enough to entice me outside. Where I recline is on a couch right by the windows, to get the best lighting for my reading. There's a cup of tea right next to me on a small coffee table and a bowl of edamame. Food, drink, sunlight and a Nalini Singh novel...what more do I need?

Kerry said...

A window seat with nice soft cushions and a curtain that can shut me away in my own little space. A nice big window open with a summer breeze blowing in or securely closed against the winter cold.

Tannun said...

A recliner, ebook on the laptop, TV, phone, and music off to minimize distractions, and a Maid to bring me soda's and snacks until the book is finished!

The_Book_Queen said...

Even something as simple as a luxorious and very comfy chair/lounge, seated in front of a roaring fire, and placed in a room devoted to my books would be perfect. It doesn't have to be huge, or expensive, just relazing and quiet.

Of course, I would never turn down a reading room/library like the one featured on Beauty in the Beast! ;)

wandergurl said...

For me it would be a nice lazy boy like chair that pulls out so you can lean back, with a handy place for water, chocolate and/or maybe some chips. Also maybe with a matching manservant (hot) to bring me food when i get hungry :)

My dream environment would be a vast open space filled with extremely soft pillows and beds and couches. Wherever I went there would be a nice comfy place to sit. And in the background it would be peaceful and quiet.

Louise Delamore said...

really comfy chair - the kind you don't have to sit in properly you can sit all crooked and it's still comfy - cup of coffee, some chocolate and the sun shining in the window behind me (not too bright so I can't see but so that it makes me just the right temperature).

Oh my gosh, I read when I wake up and when I go to sleep, so I guess a warm, comfy bed! HATE reading in chairs! :) And a cold Mountain Dew on the side!

My ideal reading place is in my family's living room curled up in a large chair covered in a fabric showing piles of old books. There are one or two pillows propped behind my back and my legs are over one arm of the chair. I can read for hours in that position, with my family reading in their own favorite chairs around me.

Congrats on Angels' Pawn and Angels' Blood. It's almost here!

My dream environment would be an old world library. It would have those comfy chairs that are so big you can curl up in them. There would also be a soft, leather couch that was broken in enough to embrace you while you are lying on it. A fireplace at one end of the room and a desk with a computer to check in on all the blogs and order books online.

Behind a hidden door there would be a full bathroom and another hidden door would have a small kitchen with a well stocked pantry and refrigerator. Surrounding all of this would be floor to ceiling bookcases lining the walls. Complete with one of those ladders on wheels. During the day I could read by the natural light coming in from the windows on either end of the room. At night there would be the firelight and well placed lamps throughout the room.

*can you tell I've thought about this before* :)

I'd love to spend an afternoon reading by a lake. Sunshine, shady trees, water lapping in the background, a big comfy chair, peace and quiet... what could be better? Oh, and there would be no insects! :-)

Kytaira said...

A comfy place like the couch or maybe a bed. plenty of pillows and a microplush blanket. Soda on the side. Peace and quiet.

An alternative would be a hot tub on of those single person ones so i could lean back and relax Piece and quite. Don't have a hot tub though!

Karin said...

It's all about the simple peace and quiet when I'm reading. I can be anywhere comfortable, a couch, a bed, the swing outside, under the shade of a tree as long as it's quiet, or at least mostly quiet.

I very comfy chair with downy head pillow, a fuzzy blanket, a never-ending supply of hot chocolate, and a cat perched on the arm. That would be my ideal reading environment!

A snowy day, with plenty of wood to fuel a cozy fire in the fireplace, depending on the time of day, either a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice, or a glass of Reisling, my cats curled up beside me, my husband puttering in the basement workshop, the house clean(ish), the radio on 89.9 (our public classical music station), and nothing to do except read a new Nalini Singh book from cover to cover!

Lori T said...

For me...it would be snuggling on my couch with a blanket and have true peace and quiet. No "Mom, I could you make me a sandwich or I just have a quick question." Just some nice and uninterupted reading time would be amazing!

A warm sunny day, but not too hot or too bright. On a big raft in lazy pool where the waves gently bob you up and down.

Mary M. said...

My dream environment for reading varies a lot on the type of book. In the case of vampires, I locked myself in my bedroom, dim the lights, close the curtains and ensconce myself in the middle of pillows and warm blankets. For chick lit, in a chaise longue on the pool desk, basking in the sun. For historicals...mmm, I'd like one of those hanging chairs...yep, under a tree's branches. And padded, the chair. A small breeze and a bowl of raspberries (or a basket) would be nice, too. Lol.

By the way, I bought and read Angel's Pawn last night and loved it. The secure formats and figuring out all those software downloads and activatings were a giant pain in the behind though. I'm so not tech savvy.
