Website & Reader Interview: Daphne

I know a lot of you are waiting for the website to be updated - the plan is to have it done by next week sometime, so give me a few more days. :)

Also, if you want me to answer any questions for the FAQ page, email me at nalinisinghwrites @ gmail.com (without the spaces) with FAQ in the subject line. I can't promise to answer all the questions, but no harm in asking!

Now, onto today's reader interview! Today's interviewee is Daphne, and I must say, I'm loving her desert island priorities! (And she has fabulous taste in books *grin*)

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I'm a 20 year old from London, and a two-time uni dropout. It got in the way of my reading and writing, what can I say? I mostly live in my own world and always have a pair of headphones on, either plugged into my laptop or my iPod. I can't function without music!

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

I either sell or donate most books I read, I only keep books I'm absolutely in love with. I'm really hard to please, therefore I end up letting go of nearly everything. I've kept all my Nalini Singh books, though. :)

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

Again, it has to be Nalini. Your books are something special, and I find myself thinking about the Psy/Changeling world frequently. But don't be too alarmed, I'm a terribly courteous stalker.

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

Chocolate is currency in my world. I have a wicked sweet tooth and get cranky when I haven't satisfied it. I also love white chocolate, though my sister is always quick to remind me it isn't technically chocolate. But I don't care as long as it has sugar in it!

5. Favorite book? Why?

"The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini. Every turn of the page was a revelation, a new emotion to be experienced. Beautifully written and utterly heartbreaking. I also love "The Sword and the Scimitar" by David Ball; it's an epic historical adventure that captivated me from the first page to the last.

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

Pictures of my family, a lifetime supply of chocolate, and Gerard Butler. *wink*

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

Jaffa Cakes. Not good. But so tasty.

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

I just went crazy on amazon, so about 20. I recently left uni, and I don't have a job yet, so I don't know what possessed me. But...er, does anyone want to hire me? *grin*

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

Intelligent, open-minded, kind, eccentric, and funny.

10. Which character in a book do you relate most with?

It has to be Bridget Jones. I always say the wrong thing or embarrass myself, but can laugh about it.

I made boo boo on first comment-gomen-ne.

Daphne- You're my kind of gal. Oh Gerald Bulter is just 10 kinds of awesomeness. And Jaffa cakes...oh...they're so hard to get in the States, but I wouldn't mind having them for breakfast everyday. Yummmm... Good luck on job hunting! I'd offer, but I can barely keep myself alive! Besides the whole "an ocean between us" thing. ^_~

Ms. Nalini-Horray for updates! We know you're busy writing the wonderful books we've been pestering you information for, so it's perfectly alright if you delay website update and write more *big bright eyes*! FAQ eh...ehehehehe...

xoxo,
Alice C

Daphne- Bridget Jones! I don't know you but you are sooo right! When I see the first movie in cinema I think they describe me... *lol*

Nalini- Don't hurry with your homepage. I'm waiting for Dorian! *smile* (okay, I'm joking...) I wish you a good and productive week

Daphne,
Hmmm, Jaffa cakes sound rather interesting. I'm going to have to keep an eye out and try one.

Good luck with your job hunting.

Gerard Butler...nice choice!

Daphne: When are the best months to visit London? (You know...preferably without or at least less rain). - The last time I was there is almost 8 years ago. - So I think it`s time for a new visit. (...After I`ve persuade my husband:) ).

For your job hunting (For the case you want to work in Europe) I would suggest:

->"en".

July and August are your best bets for London. It can still be pretty chilly up to around June, but summer gets fully under way around mid-July. It still rains sometimes, but most days are bright and sunny, and we've been getting some intense heatwaves too. Hope you can come for a visit soon, it's the best city in the world! (but i'm incredibly biased of course)

Thanks for the link, it's a really helpful site! It's getting to that stage where my mother's nagging me to step out of my dreamworld and face reality. I don't think she really think i'll be able to make it as a writer. But I guess we'll see. :)

little_alys: I have friends in the US and Canada that love Jaffa Cakes too. Sometimes i'll send them a few packs in exchange for stuff we can't get in the UK (lucky charms, pretzel flipz, etc). It's definitely helpful to do swaps like that, but shipping costs are a killer! =/

Sissi- ^_^ Hehe, Dorian. Everytime I see his name I keep having the cover page flash in my head. Ehehehe.

Darla-Jaffa cakes=soooo yummy!

Eva- Wow, 8 yrs is a long time. Don't most hubby's want some nice "alone" time every now and then ^_~? When's a good time to visit Germany?

Daphne- The only place I could get Jaffa cakes is 20-30 minutes drive away. Out of the way, tiny shop hidden in this old shopping area. I don't know anyone in UK to ship things to me >_<. If July/August is a good time for England, what about the surrounding areas? Scotland, Ireland, other place? I really want to go travel around Europe one day. One day soon...^_^

I'm really only familiar with the South-East of England, sadly. But July/August is generally when the rest of the British Isles is warming up too. I'm guessing Western Europe would be similar.

On a side note (totally unrelated to the topic at hand, but i'm bursting to talk about it), I just finished reading Magic Burns. How unbelievably amazing is Curran? Seriously, these books should come with a health warning. I'm having hot flushes just thinking about it, and they haven't even done the deed yet. 2009 for the new book seems too far away for me. I'm an incredibly impatient person, so 2 books a year from Nalini is torture. But one a year from Ilona and Andrew is really quite painful for me. I can see myself turning stalker on this. I wanna crack the whip and say, "please write faster!"

Thanks for the tip Daphne!
- And never give up your "writing-dream". (Good things sometimes need a while before they come true.) And in the meanwhile you can gain experience by working "in the reality".

Alice, of course, if I want to travel alone it would be O.K. for my husband. - But one of our hobbies is travelling. (We`ve more the problem to come to an aggreement "where" the journey should go first).

A good time to visit Germany? - Hm, that`s depends on your destination. But I would suggest to visit Germany in the warm months (In the end of June till September). - Especially if you want to visit Berlin (The city is great but on some places very drafty.) or the cities on the Baltic Sea/North Sea.

I remember Jaffa cakes! (I spent 5 years living [and working] in London, and while I don't miss the weather I do miss the people :)

All the best with the job hunting Daphne! It's so hard! Hmmm, you mentioned writing - have you thought about a job in the publishing industry? What I mean is, a job that would help your writing? Just a thought :)

I look forward to the website update Nalini, but I know how busy you've been with editing. And as for FAQ...I have lots but I'm thinking you won't want to answer them :)
