Age Differences

Is hooking up with someone 20 years your junior like tapping into your own personal fountain of youth? Or, are you better off with someone who actually gets your references and doesn't think Watergate is the latest brand of bottled H2O?
From an interesting article about age differences in relationships. The article's about the real deal, but applying it to fiction, do you find it easy to swallow a May-Dec relationship? Is there a cutoff after which the difference becomes too much?

I can see it very well, my parents were 19 years apart. They got along very well. But when you hit like a 40 year difference, that is a little too much for me.

My hubby's very good friend married a woman who is 16 years younger. They could not be happier - so I see no problem with it. My hubby and I are the same age - and it works for us, but I think t is the connection that the couple has that counts.
besides in the case of our friends - birth age and maturuity have a years gap anyway. I think that can be the case for many couples.

I think age is relative and can't be judged by physical age.

Some people with age differences clearly fit together however when I hear of very big gaps I got to admit personally I feel a bit uncomfortable about it. There's proof that relationships do work but sometimes particulary in high profile relationships it seems to be more grabbing at youth than loving the person.
Depends a lot on how old the younger partner is IMO.
I don't think it's possible to genaralise in RL.

In fiction; I'm trying to hink of examples! Can only think of a Brockmann one off-hand and it didn't entirely work for me. sure to be more?

I'm trying to think of fiction examples too - I remember reading a category book where the woman was older and the man was a college student but I can't remember the title. That was quite an interesting setup.

I cannot think of the movie's title, but it started Diane Keaton and Jack Nicolson and Keane Reeves, about a younger man being sttracted to an older woman. It was a great movie.

I think it can depend on the couple and I'm sure that a 15-20 year or more age gaps can work . . . I just haven't seen very many happy relationships where that's the case (i.e. my parents, grandparents). I myself definitely have a general age difference limit when it comes to dating: 5-7 years older, max.

The Diane Keaton movie with Jack and Keanu is Something's Gotta Give . . . right? great movie.

As for other fiction examples, Diana Palmer seems to love the 15 year age gap between her characters . . . I used to wonder if her husband was that much older. The more books of hers that I read with the bigger age difference the more convinced I became that it was a reflection upon her own ideal or preference or upon the author's own marriage. Anyone know? I could be totally off, I don't even know for sure if she is married.

remember reading a romance some time ago where she was a teacher and had taught him in the past, didn't like the idea. Only others I can think of are Betty Neels if you like formula books :-/
