1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a 36 year old mother of two wonderful kids, a 15 year old daughter and an 8 year old son. I’ve been with my husband 19 years, 14 of which have been married. Yes, half my life with the same man. I live in Lancaster, PA which, if you have never heard of, is Amish country. I have been an avid reader of romance novels since I was introduced to Harlequin at the age of 13. I still read romance novels but generally they have to be under the paranormal sub genre.
2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

I’m a little of both. I keep the ones I consider favorites and donate the others to the library. IF I had the room, I would be a hoarder all the way

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

At the top of that list would be Sherrilyn Kenyon and Nora Roberts. Christine Feehan also inspires those “stalker” feelings.

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

I’m actually one of the few people who hardly eat chocolate. I know its weird but we are out there.

5. Favorite book? Why?

I wish I could name just one but I can’t. I realize that many people have a favorite but I truly can’t pinpoint just one.

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

My husband
Flint (I’ve seen Survivor)
Sharp knife

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

Coffee…well, I drank coffee. LOL

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

How many books are there in the romance sections at Borders? Seriously, I never write it down but I know if I took the time it would be over a hundred if not more.

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.
My perfect hero is 6’2”, 220lbs, great abs, short hair, brown eyes, awesome smile, wonderful father, true friend, and loving husband. Yeah, my husband is the perfect hero in my eyes. Here’s a piccy.

Book Lists

In 2007 I kept a list of the books I read throughout the year. I started it out of curiosity to see how many books I was reading, but I find the list quite interesting in itself now.

I haven't had a chance to sit down and really analyze it, but I can see how it could become a very useful resource, not only to keep track of what I have and haven't read, but also as a snapshot of my personal reading trends.

I know many of you keep book lists. How do you use them? As a reference? To see how many books you've read? Something else? For those that don't keep lists, are you tempted?

I'm back! But what exactly was I doing in that cave? Welllllll....I could make up all sorts of things, but the truth is, I visited the Waitomo Glow Worm Caves - the formations are incredible but it's the glow worms that make this such an amazing experience. It's like having a million stars overhead, even though you're in a boat deep inside a cave.

Now, I'm going to inflict a couple more travel photos on you. I think you'll get a kick out of this next one.

There Be Dolphins

The plan is to get back to the normal schedule of posting this week, but I might miss a day here or there as I'm playing tour guide this week, and showing a friend from Japan around my corner of the world.

It's quite interesting seeing things from a tourist perspective. Yesterday, we went dolphin watching in the Hauraki Gulf. Check it out!!

Yes, these are from my camera! The water was so clear and a whole pod of dolphins ran along in front of the catamaran for ages. Apparently, they like to surf the waves generated by the boat.


We also saw lots of little blue penguins swimming around (they're so fast!), as well as gannets flying overhead. The view in the Gulf - of the marine life, the islands, the yachts, the sea itself - was amazing. It was such a great day. If anyone's ever down this way, I'd totally recommend doing this!

Good News!

My head is spinning. Why?

Publishers Weekly reviewed Mine to Possess and called it "...paranormal romance at its best..." Squee!!!!

I was still walking on air over that when I found out that Romantic Times gave MtP a 4.5 star Top Pick!!!!

But wait, there's more. Caressed By Ice was picked as one of the Hottest Books of 2007 by Michelle Buonfiglio's Romance B(u)y the Blog at Lifetime TV; and as I was about to write this blog, I was told that CBI's also been nominated for a Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award!!

Hence the head spinning (and excessive use of exclamation marks)! I think I need to throw a cyber-party to celebrate. So, pull up a chair, bring your drink of choice and tell me what's made your head spin lately. :-)

Review & Bollywood

It's Christmas Eve!! That means it's Christmas tomorrow! Lots of sunshine down in New Zealand - I'm thinking the beaches will be packed for the holidays. :)

I've already gotten a very nice present - tugsduck, one of the winners of the ARC Contest, read and loved MtP. Here's what she said in the comments to Friday's post:

It was awesome! I read until my eyes wanted to pop out of my head (much to the chagrin of my boyfriend!).

This book is just as good if not better than those preceding it. It has humor, poignancy, and sensuality (much to the pleasure of my boyfriend once I was done reading!). Clay and Talin's story was the bomb!

This book will be added to my keepers to be enjoyed again and again... for all of you eagerly anticipating the release date, it will definitely be worth the wait!

Yippee!! Thanks tugsduck! And now, I have a present for all of you. I recently watched a Bollywood movie called Om Shanti Om. There's a lovely song in it - I won't translate it except to say that it's super-romantic, and the title line means (not an exact translation): "In your eyes, there is a kind of magic."

The video below is actually a trailer for the movie, but it uses the song (a really short version). If you want to hear the beautiful full version, search Ajab Si on YouTube (or better yet, go see if the movie's playing near you!) Also, in case you wonder about the costumes - the first half of the movie is set in the 70's, the second half in the present day. Enjoy! :)

Just a quick update: the emails will probably go out today to the winners of the ARC contest. I'll do some sort of blog post on it either later today, or tomorrow. Also, the website has been updated with a new excerpt from Mine to Possess!

Now, onto the interview (if you'd like to participate, details are here)! Today's interviewee is is Erin, who also loves Remembrance (one of my favorite books)!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

- I'm 25 years old and work at a trade assocation as an accounting assistant. I currently live in Olympia, Wash., and love reading, photography, swimming and history. I'm single, and loving it, and travel is my obsession.

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

- HOARD! It's really bad, actually. I just moved, and had to pack up my books - over 900 of them! But how do you give them away? I re-read every night before I go to bed, so I need a library as a selection, since I never know what mood I'll be in.

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

- I'm really, really not the stalker type, but I do tend to check on certain author's websites and blogs - Lynn Viehl, Marjorie M. Liu, Meljean Brook and Allison Brennan are a few that are on my favorites list.

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

- At certain times of the month, very susceptible. All other times, not so much.

5. Favorite book? Why?

- So, so hard. I don't have a favorite, but I have a few that have moved me on a deep level. Dream Boy by Jim Grimsley, Remembrance by Jude Deveraux, Shadow Touch by Marjorie M. Liu for a few. The why is difficult, but I like subtle. I want to feel the emotions, and not have to read that so-so is angry,happy, etc., and I want it simple. All of these books have a lyricism that lures you in.

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

- 1 case of flare guns, 1 case of pens, 1 case of notebooks.

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

- Grapefruit

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

- Umm...about 20, I think, with books that are currently out. I've got about 15 more on pre-order, including Mine to Possess *squeal*

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

- No one's perfect, but...very smart, quiet, can make me laugh, dangerous when riled, open minded and for a physical trait, I like 'em lean.

Which character in a book do you relate most with?

- Hmm. Callie Dunbrook in Birthright by Nora Roberts and Rachel Morgan in the Rachel Morgan books by Kim Harrison. Callie because she's stubborn, loves history and loves cello music, and Rachel because she's stubborn, klutzy, and always ends up doing stuff she didn't intend.

I am a stay at home mom with 2 kids and a fantastic husband! I love to read and hope to one day write a book of my own…even if I am the only one who reads it! My favorite color is yellow because it makes me feel warm and sunny! If I was at a party in a crowded room…just follow the laugh!!

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

I am a total hoarder. I have a hard time even loaning out books!! “MINE, ALL MINE” In most things I am very giving and sweet…when it comes to my books I am not!! lol

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

All of the authors that are kind enough to respond to me!! I get star crazed and want to know all about them!! I would not go as far as stalking them (at least not yet) but I do wish I could know each one on a friend type level rather than an outsider looking in. I do have a dark hunter tattoo (I love Sherrilyn Kenyon books). So I am just crazy enough to permanently alter my body!!!

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

Apparently my mom put chocolate milk in my bottle as a baby!! Seriously…. but that was in the 70’s so it was not frowned upon..at least I do not think it was??

5. Favorite book? Why?

That is a hard one!! I really have a whole bookshelf filled with my favorite books!! I really LOVE the JR Ward Brotherhood series!! I would have to say those would be my favorites!!

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

Since it has to be things and not who…lol

I would say..q-tips, beef jerky (I am NOT eating fish), and a magna doodle!!

At least 10 but I have some September new releases on the way….and lots of holds at the library!!

Wild, Wicked & Wanton is seriously hot. I swear I singed my fingertips during reading. It’s three novellas but they’re connected so for me, it read like book - I also felt each couple got their chance in the spotlight, especially since you get to see them outside their novella. But the heat aside, what really made this book work for me were the relationships.

First, the relationship between the three women – Abby, Callie & Blair. They just seemed like real friends, and I liked how the men fit into and respected that friendship.

And second, the relationship between each heroine and her hero. The love scenes were utterly hot, but there was tenderness there, too. I truly believed these couples would make it – Wild, Wicked & Wanton really fulfilled both parts of its promise of being an erotic romance. This one’s going in the keeper pile.

Advanced Copies & All That Jazz

Talking about ARCs, I'm sure you guys would threaten to lynch me if I told you what ARCs I have sitting here right now, calling to me. Since I value my life, I won't tell you the titles...yet *grin*

Tinker - Wen Spencer

I've heard lots of people recommend Tinker, but for some reason, I never actually knew what it was about for the longest time. Well, I recently fixed that. And as soon as I read the backcover blurb, I knew I'd have to read this book.

Inventor, girl genius Tinker lives in a near-future Pittsburgh which now exists mostly in the land of the elves. She runs her salvage business, pays her taxes, and tries to keep the local ambient level of magic down with gadgets of her own design.

When a pack of wargs chase an Elven noble into her scrap yard, life as she knows it takes a serious detour. Tinker finds herself taking on the Elfin court, the NSA, the Elfin Interdimensional Agency, technology smugglers and a college-minded Xenobiologist as she tries to stay focused on what’s really important – her first date. Armed with an intelligence the size of a planet, steel toed boots, and a junk yard dog attitude, Tinker is ready to kick butt to get her first kiss.

I loved this book. Tinker is such a great character. She's a super genius, and yet she's normal enough to run around saying: "Yes! Be healed!" Tinker cried. "I am your magic god! Say Amen to me! Woohoo!" She danced around the room. "Oh yes, I am a god! The one! The only! Tinker!" after she pulls off something difficult. (Hands up if you've ever done something similiar ;) ).

The world is pretty amazing, too. Elves, magic and hoverbikes in one awesome package. Magic is only quantum physics to Tinker, and she makes even the weirdest things seem grounded and real. And yep, there's more than enough romance in the book to satisfy. But, don't take my word for it - there's a great excerpt available on the author's site.

I'm definitely looking forward to diving into Wolf Who Rules, the sequel to Tinker.

I am 28, I live in Sydney, Australia. I am originally from the Philippines and I moved here 2 and a half years ago. I live with flatmates in a nice house in a suburb full of children and pets, where we are the only ones on our street who don't appear to have either :) I came here to study and in the end finished with a double masters degree. I start a graduate job next year and in the meantime I work for a ticketing agency in a call centre.

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

I hoard. I came to Australia with 6 books. I currently have a six shelf Ikea billy bookcase and I need to get another one really soon... If I really, really don't like the book I might take it to a second hand shop and trade it for a better one :)

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

Neil Gaiman! I heart him.

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

Severely. I always give it up for lent cos its the ultimate sacrifice. One of the best pictures of me is next to a chocolate fountain.

5. Favorite book? Why?

i have too many! i will name two, archangel by sharon shinn (a romance disguised as fantasy, i swear) and bel canto by ann patchett which is a beautiful, lyrical novel that i highly recommend to everyone.

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

An immortal never dying cigarette lighter (zippo, preferably)
An all weather blanket (good for cold & heat)
And a laptop that ran on endless batteries with a high speed T3 connection (so i can order all my needs on the internet)

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

sultana & apple oatmeal by uncle toby's (no milk) and a banana

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

The pile on my side table has maybe...8? There is an entire shelf in aforementioned mentioned bookcase that I have not read. Plus some others...

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

well first he has to smell nice & be able to spell. this is important ;P
smart, funny, considerate, with sexual prowess (ha ha ha) and hot. and i mean hot to me, he doesn't have to be you know, brad pitt. but just someone who i am attracted to and who is attracted to me!

Crazy-Making Mini-Excerpt

You know how I was talking about the yummy hero in the novella I'm writing? Well, I did say I'd post up some kind of excerpt. So here's a sneak peek (some stuff may change in edits). But WARNING - don't read it if you have a low crazy-making threshhold. 'Cause it's short.

Why is it so short?

1. It's a novella so I can't give away too much.
2. I was trying to find a bit where you didn't hear his first name, because that's mentioned in Mine to Possess (only two more months till MtP releases!!) and I thought you guys might enjoy figuring out who he is.
3. It's fun to make everyone crazy ;)

She jumped. “You walk like a cat!”

“I am a cat, sweetheart.” He wanted to tease her again, so he let a low growl rumble up from his chest. “See?”

Streaks of vibrant color stained her cheeks. But she didn’t back down. “Are you planning to move?”

“No.” He drew in a deep breath, fighting the urge to nuzzle at her throat. “You smell good. Can I taste you?” It was a half-serious question. “Just a little?”

“Mr. Quinn!” She took a step around him and headed off.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi Nalini! What a fun idea. Well, my name is Amy. I'm a stay at home mom. I live in Western NY with my fabulous husband and my son! He is 8 and growing up so fast. I've been married 10 years this past July :). I love books. And thank goodness I have a very supportive husband when it comes to my 'tiny' obsession. I have my library that has most all of the author goodies I have collected scrapbooked and framed hanging on the walls. I love that room!

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

I am a HOARDER!! Although I have gone through some of them and sent a couple boxes overseas to Iraq for the troops. It can be difficult to part with my books but who I did it for made it very worth it and I have even heard back from a few thanking me for them!

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

Well, I've already been named stalker of Jacquelyn Frank! hehe!! But you could definitely tempt me! Your books are fabulous!

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

I'm not a fan of Chocolate :(! I do love snickers candy bars!

5. Favorite book? Why?

This answer could change next week but as of right now it is Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson. I just read it the other night and the messages that were in that book were very touching! Tragedy can happen at any moment and you have to enjoy what you have and NEVER take it for granted. And also, there is life and happiness after a tragic event. Man, I love that book!

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

I'm kinda in the gutter with this one....sooo....I'm going to plead the fifth! ;)

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

I'm not a breakfast eater. I drink two cups of coffee every morning.

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

uhh...I'm afraid to count! But I would have to say more than 50! :)

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

Hmm...this is a tough one. I keep wanting to describe the perfect male. But that's not the same as hero. I don't think I can describe the perfect hero.

Here's the interview I promised you with the author of Sexiest Man Alive, Diana Holquist! Diana's happy to answer any more questions, so hit her with them! Plus, check out the discussion question below. Now, onto those deep, dark secrets...

1. Sexiest Man Alive? How did you come up with such a fun idea?

Oh, that’s easy, Sexiest Man Alive was inspired by my husband. Hi, Honey!

Okay, is he gone?

Right then. Sexiest Man Alive was really inspired by a famous guy whose name I will not mention. I used to work for his father. Famous guy would show up in the office every now and then and stroll about and we’d all swoon and try to catch him bending over the water fountain in the hall….

Sorry. Got a wee bit distracted there. Anyway, we’d sit around and gab, asking each other, what is it that makes that guy so, well, hot. That, my friends, is the stuff of great literature.

2. Inspiration for Jasmine's character - her "flaw" is just so original? (Tangent: Hey, I wrote a Jasmine, too! My first published book!).

See, we were meant for each other, Nalini. My Jasmine’s flaw is that she’s pathologically shy around sexy men. She shakes, she blushes, she goes mute, and then she flees in terror. This is a problem as she’s just landed the job as the dresser (the person who helps an actor change quickly between scenes) for People magazine’s sexiest man alive. I came up with the flaw because I’m that way. Not around sexy men. But around a certain kind of person. I won’t tell you who or what, though; it’s too personal. But if you know me, and you’re that kind of person, you think I’m INSANE. If you’re not that kind of person, you think I’m completely normal. (Hah!) It’s a kind of phobia—like of snakes or heights…only for Jasmine, it’s sexy men. It’s actually surprisingly common.

3. SMA is part of a loose series based around three sisters - how about giving us the lowdown on the other books.

Each book starts with a gypsy psychic, Amy, who can tell a person the name of their soul mate—the one person on this earth who is destined to be their One True Love.

Make Me a Match, was the first book I published. It’s about woman with a “perfect” life who learns that her soul mate might be dying. If she ever wants to experience the love of a lifetime, she has to drop everything in her comfortable life and find him now.

Sexiest Man Alive is the second book in the series. It’s the story of the shyest woman alive who comes to believe that her soul mate is People magazine’s sexiest man alive. It’s in stores now.

Hungry for More will be out next fall. It’s Amy’s story, the Gypsy psychic who has been messing up everyone else’s lives with her soul mate prophecies. She loses her power and has to take a job in a restaurant to support herself. Wouldn’t you know the chef is one sexy dude….

4. Who is Diana Holquist - tells us your deep, dark secrets (especially the ones that involve sexy men).

Wait, I think I already did that. Okay, more secrets. I have no idea how to use my cell phone. I have to have my eight-year-old find Dancing with the Stars every Monday night, as I can’t work our satellite TV either. I’m addicted to diet Pepsi, but I hide it and drink it in coffee cups so my kids don’t see me drinking soda. I’m addicted to Sudoku.

This isn’t about me, but rather about the model on the cover of Sexiest Man Alive: this was his first modeling gig. In real life, he teaches special needs kids. Now, if that’s not sexy, I don’t know what is…

5. What draws you to write contemporary?

Contemporary romantic comedy is dead. And yet, I get so many reviews and e-mails that say, thank god someone is writing fun, funny, light contemporaries! I have the utmost respect for other genres, but I could never write them. Angst is not my thing. Dark stuff frightens me and I’m too frightened of the real world to deal with made-up stuff.

6 .Do you have plans to write in other sub-genres?

I have a cross-genre idea for my next book after Hungry for More, but I don’t know if I can pull it off. So I won’t admit it yet. Come back in five months and I’ll tell you more.

7. Anything else you want to add?

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I'm a 36 year old meeting planner who lives in metropolitan Washington, D.C. I'm an avid reader of romance.

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

My books go in three categories: (1)give aways, (2)shares, (3)keepers.

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

Nora Roberts. She's my all time favorite author and seems to be such a smart and incredibly witty person. I'd just love to have cocktails with her.

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

Very. Especially Dark Chocolate Peanut M&Ms.

5. Favorite book? Why?

The Windflower by Tom and Sheila Curtis. Why? The prose, plain and simple. It features some of the most evocative prose written in romance, IMHO. The hero is delicious, the heroine smart and grows noticeably during the story, and the secondaries are some of the most memorable out there. Also, it's a pirate romance. What's not to love about that??

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

Books, iPod (with some sort of charger), and plenty of Diet Pepsi.

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

A bagel and lite cream cheese.

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

Two. I'm a very fast reader, so I have a hard time maintaining a TBR stack. I'm always deeply envious of people who say they have hundreds of books waiting. How do they do that?

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

He's tough, loyal and a leader of men. He's probably ornery and can be on the cranky side. He's fiercely protective of those he loves, especially his woman. He's a big guy, and looks good in either a t-shirt and jeans or dressed up, but prefers to be casual. He's good with his hands (and his mouth...LOL!). Hmm, maybe I've thought a little too much about this.

Sexiest Man Alive - Diana Holquist

I found out about Sexiest Man Alive via Jane's review on Dear Author. (It's a great review, so swing by that way for a much more in-depth look at the book.)

Here's the blurb that I grabbed from the author's website:

I really enjoyed Sexiest Man Alive - at first blush it's a fun contemporary romance, but this book's got heart. I felt for Jasmine. Her shyness isn't put on or temporary, it's very much a part of her life. I absolutely loved the book's beginning - Jasmine trying to get over her fear of speaking to men by practising with a naked...Ken doll. (Go here to read the excerpt.)

And Josh Toby, the Sexiest Man Alive, surprised me. He was a movie star but he was also so sweet. I could totally see him and Jasmine making it. This book made me smile. :) Have any of you read it? Thoughts? Any other good contemporary recommendations?

What voices are you hearing? How's the week been?

When Characters Make Their Own Rules

So I'm working on this novella and hero is so scrumptious that I want to write a whole book about him. He just makes me want to sigh dreamily. The man is a terrible tease though - the things he says to the heroine!

The idea for this novella came via Mine To Possess. There's a fleeting mention of something in MtP that made me think, hmm, wonder what their story is. It was meant to be a fun look behind the curtain so to speak - an in-depth look at something glimpsed. Now the hero is sitting here laughing at me because he knows he's going to get to come back in other books. I just won't be able let either him, or his heroine, go. I think you guys are going to love him too. :)

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a single, 40 year old and I live in New Zealand. No cats no this house, although I have considered getting one or two! I am generally quite a reserved person, until you get to know me. I absolutely hate talking about or describing myself as I'm pretty boring, and there are always much more interesting things to talk about! I have been an avid reader for years and rarely go anywhere without a book in my handbag!

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

Definitely a hoarder. I do eventually have a cleanup, but end up re-buying some of the ones I'v gotten rid of. My Palm is a godsend - I can have print and ebook versions of my absolute favourites, and just ebook versions of the rest.

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

There are a couple - definitely you Nalini, along with JR Ward, Christine Feehan and Sherrilyn Kenyon. Fortunately I'd be a harmless stalker - far too shy to ever approach anyone, and you'd never get a word of sense out of me! I think I'd probably be way too star-struck (or should be author-struck). I doubt if I'd be able to open my mouth without making a complete fool of myself - I prefer to admire from afar.

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

Extremely - especially peppermint, fruit and nut, white chocolate, flake bars (ooh yum - especially the luxury flake bars), pinky bars, milky ways, moro bars, freddo's, sultana pasties, tim tam biscuits, mallowpuffs, chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, chocolate milkshakes, chocolate mousse, chocolate dipped ice-cream etc, etc, etc. Let's face it - if it has chocolate in it, I'll eat it! .

5. Favorite book? Why?

The Odyssey by Homer. I've always loved Roman and Greek mythology and this book is a very compelling read. I couldn't possibly name a favourite romance or paranormal book - there are too many of them that I love, and enjoy reading (and re-reading) each of them for different reasons.

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

*A campervan (winnebago) - with an never-ending supply of food, electricity and fresh water......... does that count as one item!!!!!

*Having discovered the joys of eBooks, one item would have to be my Palm, stocked with all of my favourite books and music.

*The Tim Tam genie - at least I'd have an endless source of chocolate biscuits and a companion who could ....... cook for me!

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

Eggs and spaghetti on toast - I cook breakfast most weekends but during the week it is usually just some yoghurt.

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

57 - some books have been in my TBR pile for ages as I haven't been in the right mood to enjoy them. Other books are in my TBR pile as they are in a series where I don't have the earlier books and I get really pedantic about reading books in a series in the correct order.

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

Someone who is confident, but not full of himself, leaning towards being an alpha male.

Wicked Lovely – Melissa Marr & YA Books

This is another young adult book that I think adults will love, too. I certainly did. It’s about a girl, Ash, who can see the fae (who are all around us). However she’s spent her life pretending she can’t see them, because of the possible (dangerous) consequences. Then one of the faeries, Keenan*, starts to court her.

Keenan is the Summer King and he’s been looking for his Summer Queen for centuries. He thinks Ash is the one and he’s not going to take no for an answer. Throw in Ash’s sexy outsider boyfriend, Keenan’s chilling mother, and Donia, the last (unsuccesful) candidate for Summer Queen, and you’ve got a deliciously dark story. Link to author's website.

From memory, I’ve read three books or series I consider YA this year (PC & Kristin Cast’s “House of Night” books, Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” and this one), and it’s a departure for me – I don’t think I’ve read that much any other year. Is it because YA is changing, or is it because YA has always had intriguing stories but now some books are making it big, making us pay attention? What do you guys think?

The Art of Television

We haven't talked about t.v. for a while, and since the new season is starting in New Zealand, I thought we'd go for it today. I'm not watching much at the moment, so share your faves with me and tell me what dvds I need to look out for.

Over this way, the Dresden Files are about to start. Heroes, Season 2 has already begun. Those are two that I'm interested in. Oh and for Joss Whedon fans, he's apparently developing a new series.

Reader Interview: Candice

Tuesday is reader interview day. If you'd like to participate (you know you want to), the details are here. Today's interviewee is Candice, and she's got a very interesting extra question for you all. Read on to find out more!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Candice but my nickname is CandyAss, has been since high school, all though no one ever really calls me by it all the time lol. I love reading paranormal romances and fell in love with Slave to Sensation. Which was the best impulse buy to date :) I love; being a Libra, playing with Photoshop, writing and reading, I am proud to be a child of the 80's lol and have a great movie and pop culture knowledge. When anyone has a question about movies they come to Candice lol. I was raised in Florida but currently reside in WV (could be soon to change)

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

I could never give any books a way. I am a hoarder to the end (unless the book didn't really grab me, then I have no problem passing it along) If I love the book the I spread the word for people to buy it, it's worth it :)

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

Wow, well I have to say that it's not so much the author but the characters I would stalk lol but I wouldn't mind having a sit down with Sherrilyn Kenyon, JR Ward, Alyssa Day, Lara Adrian, Nalini Singh, Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, Alex Kava... but thats just a few

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

I love chocolate like it was a food group. White Chocolate is my favorite but there's nothing like a good 'ol milk chocolate bar

5. Favorite book? Why?

Oh I can't say I have a fav book, or even series. But I do to love the 'Warrior-protecting-innocent-while-finding-love' stories

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

A way off lol um, I would need laptop with Internet connection, all my books (that counts as one right ha-ha) and a Warrior ::dreamy sigh::

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

I sleep till noon usually but I like croissants

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

oh gosh I have a drawer full... roughly 15-ish (and more on the way)

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

I wouldn't mind a Brotherhood of the Black Dagger, or Dark Hunter... Shifters are usually loyal and mate for life, a knight in shining armor with immortality lol... the kind you only read about

If you were in the Psy/Changeling World, what side would you be in?

It would be hard to be a Psy, with no feeling but it would be cool to have special abilities. I think a Changeling because of the freedom of expressing feelings and having family/pack with you.

I had a very nice surprise in the inbox this morning. Caressed By Ice was voted the Best Print Paranormal Romance in the FAll N.O.R. Awards! Thanks to everyone who voted for Judd and Brenna.

What a great way to start the week!

My main plan for today is to work on Hostage to Pleasure - I'm currently working on a hardcopy, and since I don't want to end up with 400 pages of notes to enter when I'm done, I'm planning to input some of the changes today. Wish me luck!

Weekly Catchup

Before we get to the catchup, I wanted to answer a question from yesterday's comments - Kat asked whether chapter 1 of Hostage to Pleasure will be included in back of Mine to Possess. The answer is yes. It's an unusual first chapter...and that's all I'm saying. ;)

I'm exhausted this week - the t.v. is looking more and more tempting. I have Howl's Moving Castle sitting here, but I'm also tempted to find one of my Bollywood favorites and lose myself in the drama and romance. Decisions, decisions.

Book Cravings

There's been an interesting discussion going on in one of my email groups about different types of romances, which got me to thinking about what kinds of books I'd like to see more of. I'm a western fan, so I'd love to see more western books out there.

What about you guys? And if you're not craving anything, what can't you get enough of? (Books, people, I'm talking about books *grin*).
