Working, working...

Have copy edits. Have book due. Must work like fiend. Blog posts may slow down a little.

But I do have one question for you all - my inbox is currently all out of reader interviews (both the originals and the ones focusing on keeper books). Would you guys like to continue seeing some kind of reader interview featured on the blog? If so, what type of things would you like to ask your fellow readers?

Okay, back to work now :-)

Reader Interview: Jaime

Today's reader interview is with Jaime, fellow book hoarder! :)

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am 31 (32 on Sat, gasp!), mother of 3, an avid reader who happens to be a family practice physician to support her book habit!!! I am originally from Louisiana, but my husband and I moved to texas to open up my practice there.

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

Oooh, definitely a hoarder. I can't even manage to let people borrow my books.

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

I don't really want to stalk a particular author as much as I want to stalk some of my favorite characters... particularly the really hot ones! :) But if I were to stalk it would probably be someone like Stephen King because I've always wondered "how did they come up with that???"

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

Not at all unless pregnant. In fact, my husband found me baking a pan of fudge brownies while pregnant with the twins and said "Now I KNOW you're pregnant!"

5. Favorite book? Why?

I don't have a favorite single book, I'm afraid I'm more of a series gal. My top favorites would be Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern, Mercedes Lackey's Heralds of Valdemar, JRR Tolkien, Nalini's Psy/Changeling series, JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood, and Tad Williams Dragonbone Chair series. I really like stories/series 1)where an ordinary person manages to do extraordinary things or 2) with a really well crafted or unusual alternate reality (the what if the world worked this way, type of book)

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

My husband (wink, wink), my library (so I have something to do while he fishes) and sunscreen (so I don't fry!!!). I would love to say my kids but as we're all redheads that would just be cruel so I'll have to settle for a short stay on Paradise Island... :)

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

Toast and jelly. Cold as I had to stop and feed the baby.

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

At the moment, very few as I just got off maternity leave and managed to read them all. Normally it goes in spurts and I'll buy up 15 - 30 and then whittle them down.

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

Smart, funny, intelligent, good with kids, interesting, good sense of humor. He should also have the 3 H factors (hot, hard and hairy) and have good bedside manner! (wink, wink). Oh, wait, I think I married that one...

Extra reader submitted question(s)! Answer at will :)

* Which character in a book do you relate most with?

Haven't found one yet. I see bits of myself in lots of different characters, which is kind of fun.

* Where do you live?

A small, strange little town in Texas

* If you were in the Psy/Changeling World, what side would you be in?

Human. I don't believe you have to be superhuman or have a special gift to be a hero or make a difference. Look at Frodo.

* Seen any good movies lately?

Is there such a thing?? :>

Reader Interview: Nicole

It's reader interview time, and today's interviewee is Nicole, fellow fan of the Black Jewels Trilogy!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I'm in my mid thirties and recently bought a new Condo. I have had fun decorating and buying new furniture. I am a techinical trainer for a software company. I LOVE to read and sometimes like to do crafts. I played womens tackle football, semi-pro, for 1 year. And I am a pagan that lives in a small, Christian town, so that is sometimes fun :)

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

I am a hoarder. But, I just bought a Kindle and am going to sell most of my books as soon as I get it. That will free up 3+ 6foot book shelves.

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

Laurell K Hamilton or Sherrilynn Kenyon. I love all the books these ladies write. Sorry, Nalini, you live to far away :( Also, Anne Bishop if I could ask her about her Black Jewels stories.

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

Very, I have a small piece of dark chocolate each night. For my digestion of course :)

5. Favorite book? Why?

Ender's Game- The first book I stayed up all night reading.
After that it would have to be any book from L.Hamilton, S.Kenyon, C.Feehan, N.Singh, P.Briggs, A.McCaffrey, M.Lackey or C.Cherryh.

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

My Kindle, unlimited Coke and a knife.

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

Burger King Croissant sandwich and a coke.

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

None, I buy them as I find them to read. Unless they are not yet published.

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

Smart, funny, sexy and a great kisser. Must be a little dangerous or at least look dangerous. Tattoos are good and piercings. Confidence is also a must.

* Where do you live?

Oregon, USA

* If you were in the Psy/Changeling World, what side would you be in?

Changeling, I would love to be able to shapeshift.

Reader Interview: Angela

Since we did a catchup the other day, I thought I'd post up a new reader interview today. Today's interviewee is Angela, who has great taste in chocolate :)

1.Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am currently working full time, and taking classes. I am mother to a 2 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever (Gage) who gets all my spare time. I read voraciously, anything, and everything. I love to go out and see live bands, dance and I hate karaoke...not listening to it, but singing LOL.

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

I'm a hoarder. I can't stand the thought of giving my books away. I have to really dislike a book to get rid of it. It works for me though, because I do re-reads quite often of a lot of my books.

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

I don't think I'd stalk anyone....but I do have a list of authors that I'd LOVE to meet. JK Rowling, JR Ward, you Nalini, Diana Gabaldon...just to name a few.

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

Mmm. Dove chocolate. or Ghiradelli's. Yum. I can't resist it.

5. Favorite book? Why?

Another tough one. I love so many books. Lord of the Rings for the intricate world that Tolkien built, Lover Awakened for the heartwrenching story, Slave to Sensation for the characters and world, and Harry Potter, for the twists and turns, and stories of friendship within.

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

Being a good girl-scout I can fend for myself there, but I'd definitely take an ereader (full of books) with solar charged batteries, notebooks/pens to write with, and a laptop loaded with movies, and (again) solar powered batteries ;)

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

I'm bad. I didn't eat anything for breakfast. Just had a soda.

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

30 that I own. Probably another 100 on my wish list.

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

Sense of humor is an absolute must. Intelligent (and this doesn't mean he needs a doctorate). Taller than me in heels. Secure in himself, and in us. And he loves me and appreciates me for me.

* Where do you live?

The Frozen Tundra (Wisconsin) ;)

* Seen any good movies lately?

Yes. I really LOVED Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Great story, great acting, great directing.

Reader Interview: Sayuri

It's reader interview time, and today's interviewee is Sayuri, all the way from Scotland :)

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I'm Thirtymumble..live in Edinburgh, Scotland, currently manage a bookshop. Love to read and eat and knit and read. Oh and I am a lifelong member of the a-ha fanclub. Oh yes, I'm a child of the Eighties.

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

Are you mad? Give books away? Certainly not. Although I am considering changing over to e-format almost exclusively. But not just yet.

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

Actually I would love to make it over to one of those multi-signing doohickeys you have over in the states just so I could get a few books signed and meet a few peeps. Does flying from Scotland to America to get a book signed constitue stalking? Among my top would be Nalini (of course), Meljean Brook, Marjorie M Liu, Jim Butcher, Charlie Huston, Simon R Green, Jennifer Rardin, Lilith Saintcrow, Mike Carey......

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

Very.

5. Favorite book? Why?

Shipping News by Annie Prolux. Because it's a quiet unassuming book about quiet unassuming people who do quiet unassuming things and how that can change someone and their life completely.

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

Some kind of iHarry Potter house/tent thing so I can stay out the sun. I'm a pale lass. An unlimited supply of Diet Irn Bru (It's a Scottish drink) and something tall, dark and handsome with a degree in handyman skills.

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

Nothing, I usually trade breakfast for an extra 15 mins in bed.

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

37. Check it out on Goodreads.

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

Oh god, where do you start? Smart, funny (He needs to be able to make me laugh.), loyal, protective (Thanks to you Nalini) , a little vulnerability with an understanding of female anatomy. It's not like I'm asking for too much. Oh and he has to hate Football/Soccer.

Extra reader submitted question(s)! Answer at will :)

* Which character in a book do you relate most with?

I'm not sure I do. I'm not that damaged. I had a happy childhood, I am confident, cynical and nothing exciting has ever really happened to me. (Do you feel sorry for me yet? LOL) Actually, I can relate to Charlie in Demon Night quite a bit as I have quite an addictive personality and have to channel and control like she does.

* Where do you live?

I live by the sea in Edinburgh and I love it.

* If you were in the Psy/Changeling World, what side would you be in?

I would be a Psy just so I could hook up with one of those damn fine Changeling men. Are there any left at this point....?

Reader Interview: Alice

It's reader interview time, and today's interviewee is fellow Mr. Darcy fan, Alice!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a twenty-*cough* year old female currently working full time with an undergrad degree I’m not using and trying to figure out my life. Working, mostly. Trying to be a better person? I’m not very good at these things… I mean, I talk about myself ALL the time, but it’s usually one of those odd random facts that people give those “are you for real” looks. So…in light of books…

I always loved stories. Always, for as long as I can remember, I had stories. They’re my teachers, my friends, my understanding to the world and my only form of cognitive expression. Romantic slants were just so much sweeter. Even as a kid being read fairytales, I'd always reread the ones with strong female characters and romance in it more. Ah, happy endings.

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

I hoard, but books I really love have two copies. One for lending and reading...the other, for keeps. ^_^ It’s even better when newer additions are added. I’d need to get those too!
Very often, I do make an attempt to give books I love away to get my friends hooked and buy more copies. My ploy, hehehe.

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

You mean I'm not doing it now? Hehe. I cannot say for fear of restraining orders and self incrimination. >_< Of course, the better question is whom I have NOT stalked, ehehehe (you think I’m kidding don’t you…maybe I am, maybe….mwahahah *cough cough*-darn sugar high again). I’ll list top 3 (although Ms. Nalini is in top 10):

1. Diana Wynne Jones- I’ll just faint when I meet her, faint I tell you.
2. Hayao Miyazaki- His mangas and films…so wonderful.
3. Fuyumi Ono- Her books changed my life. It was that powerful.

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

Like waving blood at a shark hundreds of miles away. I'll bite the hand off too. Especially if it's chocolate dipped strawberries...ooooohhhhhhhh...my weakness...actually, I think I tried to stab a friend with a fork the other day when they tried to take my food. They were too quick though, so I didn’t succeed. I’m pretty sure I smacked a couple of them really hard when they tried to take my chocolate strawberry dessert. Trying to steal my chocolate…the fools, the fools I say!

5. Favorite book? Why?

I cannot choose ONE favorite book, there are so many good stuff, great wondrous books! I love stories, I love reading. I need stories. BUT, if I must...
Pride and Prejudice. Both education and entertaining. Such a wonderful romance story, but so exquisitely written and contained social commentary that applies even to this day. More importantly there’s Mr. Darcy!! Need I say more? ^_~

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

Can I say a backpack full of supplies? It's a desert island! Come on! A desert! And on an Island! I don’t have any parameters of what’s going to be on the desert island for survival’s sake. Okay, okay, if not: clean water (lots of it, hopefully an unending supplies), sunblock, and a solar powered satellite laptop (the joys of ebooks, internet, and online shows- while I order more supplies and books, and maybe rescue...mwahahahaha).

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

Honey water, fruit, garlic bread. I eat this daily nowadays in an attempt to gain some weight. Sometimes I have soup instead of water, hot chocolate, or plain warm water. Other times I have everything. Teehee.

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

Uh, I’ve lost count and have more on the way. It has taken over most of my bed, table and overflowed onto one side of my floor. It’s like a flood of books! =)p I'm a fairly fast reader and read a book or two a day...more on weekends when time available, but my need for books tend to get the best of me and I keep buying more than I can finish. Darn you internet with free shipping!! *shakes fist at computer screen*

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

Are we talking about the perfect hero to read about? Or my perfect hero?
I like reading about characters like Cam Rohen from “Mine Til Midnight.” Lucas Hunter was just about ideal-so close to my ideal! Teehee. Someone who works hard, not bound to the materialistic world, compassionate, would never take his anger out on someone he cares about: loyal, responsible, gentle, but willing to be strong when the need comes up. Not quite whole, but not insanely damaged (I really cannot begin on how insane those guys can be). I’d go for Lucas, but he’s taken. Cam’s taken too…And Mr. Darcy. Awww… Then again, I relate more to Cam and Mr. Darcy than me actually wanting them for MY personal hero. Haha. Lucas on the other hand…teehee. No, no, he’s taken…by wonderful Sascha. What a cute couple. *happy sigh*

Extra reader submitted question(s)! Answer at will :)

* Which character in a book do you relate most with?

Oddly enough, I almost always relate more to male protagonist in books (probably 90% plus of the time), which always made me a little sad. That was why your books, Ms. Nalini, were such an awesome surprise for me. I related to almost all of the female characters, especially Sienna, although I don't have her intelligence. I sometimes feel like Sascha, but I’m not that nice. Eh. Ehehehe. Kind of like Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice, but once again, not that smart. My friends tell me I'm like anime/manga characters come alive (thus their constant fascination to dress me up…all the time…)-they mean it sincerely, so I take it as a compliment, even thought I don’t relate to them at all.

* Where do you live?

Sunny California, USA, with my lovely puppydogs whom I love with all my heart.

* So what would people think was a perfect heroine??

Independent, kind, a bit flawed and willing to admit it. Knows herself well (and rather happy with herself overall), thus compassionate and soft when needs to be, but also stubborn and can kick major butt when she needs to. Emphasize the butt-kicking. ^_^

* If you were in the Psy/Changeling World, what side would you be in?

Probably Psy. I relate to them more, I guess. Not the superiority thing. More the need-to-control-emotions-since-it's-always-getting-out-of-hand-hurting-everyone-around-me-thing, but also the wanting-to-feel-and-care-and-show-affection-but-don't-know-how thing too. Also, the social structure I was brought up in reflects that of the Psy world more than Changeling. I would like to be a Changeling, if only for the ability to change. Of course, once we learn more and more about humans...

* Seen any good movies lately?

Quite a few actually! Enchanted was adorable and such a parody at times. Secretary was a bit on the whoa side, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Imagine You and Me was actually really good and I loved the music. D.E.B.S was cute. Now if I only had time to watch The Piano and North and South. It’s calling me!!!

Website & Reader Interview: Daphne

I know a lot of you are waiting for the website to be updated - the plan is to have it done by next week sometime, so give me a few more days. :)

Also, if you want me to answer any questions for the FAQ page, email me at nalinisinghwrites @ gmail.com (without the spaces) with FAQ in the subject line. I can't promise to answer all the questions, but no harm in asking!

Now, onto today's reader interview! Today's interviewee is Daphne, and I must say, I'm loving her desert island priorities! (And she has fabulous taste in books *grin*)

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I'm a 20 year old from London, and a two-time uni dropout. It got in the way of my reading and writing, what can I say? I mostly live in my own world and always have a pair of headphones on, either plugged into my laptop or my iPod. I can't function without music!

2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?

I either sell or donate most books I read, I only keep books I'm absolutely in love with. I'm really hard to please, therefore I end up letting go of nearly everything. I've kept all my Nalini Singh books, though. :)

3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?

Again, it has to be Nalini. Your books are something special, and I find myself thinking about the Psy/Changeling world frequently. But don't be too alarmed, I'm a terribly courteous stalker.

4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?

Chocolate is currency in my world. I have a wicked sweet tooth and get cranky when I haven't satisfied it. I also love white chocolate, though my sister is always quick to remind me it isn't technically chocolate. But I don't care as long as it has sugar in it!

5. Favorite book? Why?

"The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini. Every turn of the page was a revelation, a new emotion to be experienced. Beautifully written and utterly heartbreaking. I also love "The Sword and the Scimitar" by David Ball; it's an epic historical adventure that captivated me from the first page to the last.

6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?

Pictures of my family, a lifetime supply of chocolate, and Gerard Butler. *wink*

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

Jaffa Cakes. Not good. But so tasty.

8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?

I just went crazy on amazon, so about 20. I recently left uni, and I don't have a job yet, so I don't know what possessed me. But...er, does anyone want to hire me? *grin*

9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.

Intelligent, open-minded, kind, eccentric, and funny.

10. Which character in a book do you relate most with?

It has to be Bridget Jones. I always say the wrong thing or embarrass myself, but can laugh about it.

Link & Reader Interview: Helen

First a link - Urban Fantasy Land's got Particia Brigg's new cover art up - one word: stunning!

~~~
And now, as promised, here's a new reader interview! I've got two more left (unless any more come in), that I plan to post next week. Today's interviewee is Helen, a fellow book lover!!
Question #1: Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am currently ready to graduate from Cal. State University Bakersfield after this Winter Quarter with a LBST degree. I plan to attend either San Jose State University or someplace else- I haven’t decided yet!- to get my Masters in Library Science.
Obviously I love books so I reaaallllyyyy hope to get into a profession where I am surrounded by books!
I was born in California and have lived here all my life!! I love it here and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else, but I would love to travel all over the world!!
Question #2: Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?
I am definitely a hoarder, I also happen to be a giver, especially when I love a series ‘cause then I give my books over to someone else so they can be obsessed as me and I can keep buying new ones….sounds bad but …..jeez what can I say I LOVE BOOKS!!!
Question #3: What author might tempt you into turning stalker?
I don’t think I could stalk anyone…..what with the threat of Imprisonment….but if I could get away with it….ummm…..lets just say Nalini you are definitely in the top 10!
Question #4: How susceptible are you to chocolate?
Very susceptible to chocolate, especially if it is Ferrero Rocher….ohhhhh that stuff is soooo good!!!!
Question #5: Favorite book? Why?
Such a hard question…I guess I will go with what I said in a previous blog, Piers Anthony writes Sci-Fi Fantasy books, and his Xanth series got me started reading when I was young and so I will always hold a special place in my heart for his books since his books gave me my unquenchable desire to read, read, and read!!!!
Question #6: If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?
EEEEEKK!!! The desert I can live with, (I live in the MOJAVE DESERT!) but Island!!!! I am so afraid of water!!! So for me I would definitely need …… an architect/contractor so he could design a home, and build it, if I have to live on an island….. Then I would need… a chef so he could feed me food that I wouldn’t know how to prepare, or scavenge, or find.. and last but not least…..a fully equipped helicopter pilot with a helicopter so I could leave this Island paradise whenever I need to get back to civilization!!!!
Question #7: What did you eat for breakfast?
This one is easy….I ran out the door and forgot my breakfast!!! But I was dreaming about pancakes with lots of maple syrup
Question #8: How many books in your current to-be-read pile?
Oh wow since I am in my last 3 weeks of school I have at least 10 books!! But its ok because as soon as I am done I will be reading at least 2 a day and I should be caught up in a week!
Question #9: Describe your idea of a perfect hero.
The perfect hero for me is someone who can love me for who I am, but will always spare time for others as well and not be caught up completely in just us because there is a whole world out there.
Xtra ?’s
Which character in a book do you relate most with?
-I relate most to Sascha because she fights her feelings a lot but then finds out that her emotions are what sets her free to be everything she always wanted to be and more.
Where do you live?
-I live in California, Antelope Valley, Lancaster- part of the Mojave Desert
So what would people think was a perfect heroine??
-A perfect heroine can be tough or soft but can always hold her own when she needs to.
If you were in the Psy/Changeling World, what side would you be in?
-I would absolutely want to be in the Changeling world, being able to turn into an animal would be a wonderful gift!!
Soraya, 35 years old, single and I live in Paris (France). I'm a lawyer's secretary. Since I'm 14 I read voraciously romance books, I don't have any genre preferences. 2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?
I have given a lot of my books away since my little sister offers me a palm :) I only kept my very favorites one :)
3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?
Linda Howard, JAK, Christine Feehan, Lora Leigh, Stella Cameron, Angela Knight, Shelly Laurenston, Laurell K. Hamilton, Jaci Burton and Nalini Singh.
I really don't have "one" favorite book.
My hero of all time, Gideon from "Ravished" by AQ.
Reader Interview: Darla
It's reader interview time! Today's interviewee is Darla, and she's one smart cookie - check out her answer to the desert island question!
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Darla, and I've been reading romance since I was 16, starting with Shanna by Kathleen Woodiwiss. I've been in my own wonderful romance for 28 years to a man that knows the ropes! Wink Wink...Gotta love it. BG! I'm a mother of 3, all adults now, and Grandmother of 2.
2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?
I have always been a hoarder and have over 2,000 books at home...but lately since I am seriously running out of room I'm going through my books and donating and giving some of them away. If I had my druthers I'd just do what George Carlin says and "Get a bigger place for my stuff!"
3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?
For me this is by far the hardest question. There are so many talented authors I've read, that have given me hours of enjoyment, but I can't name just one...I'll have to wait until the RWA conference comes back my way and stalk ALL of them!
4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?
VERY! Have to have it with me at all times...there may be an emergency where its needed!
5. Favorite book? Why?
Knight of a Trillion Stars by Dara Joy. When I picked this book up I didn't really know what I was getting into. For me reading this book is like sitting in a movie theatre. This was before there were very many paranormal reads. It just knocked my socks right off and from then on I was hooked and still hope that someday she may be able to finish the series.
6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?
Books, books & books...because I can hunt for food and comforts and no one said there wouldn't be a man already there, so I choose to believe that Hugh Jackman will be waiting for me!
7. What did you eat for breakfast?
Granola with yogert, nuts, banana, flax.
8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?
Over 300...!
9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.
Just someone who is there when you need him...that and a great bod don't hurt.
Extra reader submitted question(s)! Answer at will :)
* Which character in a book do you relate most with?
Depends on the mood I'm in at the time!
* Where do you live?
Emporia KS
* So what would people think was a perfect heroine??
I don't know, each person is different is the things they look at. Me I like those that are decisive, easy to be around, and real, as in not trying to be something you're not or fake.
* If you were in the Psy/Changeling World, what side would you be in?
Changeling, I'd love to be able to shift into a big cat!
Reader Interview: Jen B.
It's Tuesday and time for a reader interview! Today's interviewee is Jen B., a true romantic :-)
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm 29, 30 in February (OMG). A complete and total romantic, I am emotional and my one dream has always been to find true love (cheesy I know). I have a seven year old daughter who is far too clever for her own good. I am American but I live in the UK and have done for eight years now. I love reading, of course, and cannot wait to meet some of my favourite authors. I currently work as a secretary for the director of education at the local authority.
2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?
No No No!! Never give books away...the idea is just absolutely shocking to me! I loaned books to a friend once and stressed until I got them back and then went mad because she'd bent a spine :)
3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?
How much time have you got??
4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?
Umm...hello...need to breath....need to eat chocolate...life's sustenance
5. Favorite book? Why?
I'm not sure how to answer this...different genres, different likes. I really loved Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon when I first read it and have probably read it far too many times but I would say my ultimate favourite book was Pride and Prejudice and while I adore the Colin Firth adaptation I loved the book before then.
6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?
My IPod, preferably with a solar battery of some sort so it never stops running
A laptop with undying internet connection and battery so that I can at least download books since the post guy won't be coming to visit
A picture of my daughter to help keep me sane
7. What did you eat for breakfast?
Two slices of toast with butter
8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?
15 (bought) too many to count on pre-order on amazon
9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.
I want an alpha male..surprise surprise, who is attractive (to me anyway), protective, honourable, generous, loving but not overly soppy, understanding, funny, likeable, good and adventurous in bed (and out lol), tall - I think that's it...you get the idea anyway :)
Extra reader submitted question(s)! Answer at will :)
* Which character in a book do you relate most with?
Generally the heroine that thinks she'll never get what her heart desires most...just waiting for my happy ending now :)
* Where do you live?
Cleethorpes, UK
* If you were in the Psy/Changeling World, what side would you be in?
I'd have to be a changeling. I could never pass as Psy - far too emotional :)
Reader Interview: Ashley
It's reader interview time - today's interviewee is fellow chocoloate connoisseur, Ashley!
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am 23 years old female college student on the verge of graduating (finally!) with majors in History and Japanese. I'm passionate about reading, shopping, and celebrity gossip!
2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?
I hoard... but not so much that I'm a fire hazard. I tend to loan a good portion of my books out to my friends though...
3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?
Stephanie Meyer... true love, high school angst, vampires and werewolves, is there nothing better?!
4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?
Very... especially around exam time. Speaking of which I really should be studying for tomorrow's Japanese final exam...*I type while drinking hot chocolate*
5. Favorite book? Why?
Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. Why? Because it made me cry and books/ movies never make me cry. Her writing truly sucks in the reader so much that you feel the pain and trials of the main character. It was a really wonderful book!
6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?
A cookbook (for cooking fish of course), my laptop (I'm not too sure where I'd get the electricity to keep it running), and my Nintendo DS Lite (A girl's gotta have some fun!)
7. What did you eat for breakfast?
Instant breakfast, the chocolate flavored variety.
8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?
Zero, I prefer lack of sleep to an unread book!
9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.
Funny, kind, and confident.
p.s. Think I should add any other questions?
Seen any good movies lately? (I have! Everyone should go see Enchanted!! So wonderful and cute!)
[Nalini: Totally agree! Enchanted was really sweet.]
Extra reader submitted question(s)! Answer at will :)
* Which character in a book do you relate most with?
Possibly Sasha Duncan, I'm a very nurturing person but I am also very reserved in my mannerisms.
* Where do you live?
Georgia!
* If you were in the Psy/Changeling World, what side would you be in?
I'd be a Psy hoping there is a special Changeling out there just for me! ^_^
Website Updates & Reader Interview: Amy B
We've just completed the website updates - including the blurb for Dorian's book. The setup for Hostage to Pleasure actually contains a spoiler for Mine to Possess, so I'd recommend reading the blurb after you read MtP. :) Here's the link to the main page of the website.
I've also got a great reader interview for you - this week's interviewee is Amy B!! :)
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi Nalini. My name is Amy and currently I am an unemployed pharmaceutical engineer, hopefully the unemployed part will be obsolete soon, living in Northern California. What is a pharmaceutical engineer you ask, we are engineers responsible for making sure the equipment used to make drugs are up to standards set by all the different regulatory agencies. I have always loved reading and have always had a book collection. When I was young, my mom would punish me, when I was bad, by taking away my books!
2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?
HOARDER! I seems to justify buying bookcases because they "fill up the empty walls"! Why hang picture when you could use that wall for a bookcase! I do occasionally sort through my books and donate them or take them to the used bookstore to resell/donate. This usually happens when I move. I try to do so every couple of years just keep things manageable (although, each move seems to move me into bigger place, *sigh*)
3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?
Christine Feehan, because I know that she is geographically close and it wouldn't require relocating. I really like all her books and would love to get the inside scoop on what is going to happen next.
4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?
Depends on the time of the month. Unfortunately for me, excessive chocolate (which for me means more than one piece or one hot chocolate) gives me migraines. *sigh*
5. Favorite book? Why?
Hmm... tough question. It changes nearly weekly. The ones that stick with me are the Chronicles of Narnia and the Lord of the Rings. They are just great fantasy novels and take the reader to new and exciting worlds. Though lately, Caressed by Ice has been keeping me fascinated (I just keep re-reading it!).
6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?
Lots and lots of sparkling water, my iPod (along with something the power it using solar power), and a really sexy guy to keep me... uh... company! *smirk*
7. What did you eat for breakfast?
Tea and muffin or scone. Whatever I've baked recently.
8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?
Currently it's at about 25 and keeps growing.
9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.
Strong, loyal, sexy guy with a great sense of humor.
* Which character in a book do you relate most with?
Brenna. Having overcome past abuse by confronting it and seeking help has made me a stronger person as a whole. We can only truly heal when we are ready confront it and willing to ask for help when needed.
* If you were in the Psy/Changeling World, what side would you be in?
I would definitely be a changeling, hopefully a tiger :-). I think we have animals inside us and they should be allowed to be free and we should all be more careful with the environment to keep our planet blue and green forever.
Chat Details & Reader Interview: Karen
Okay, so I've finally got myself organized re the chat. Here are the details -if there are any changes, they'll be on the blog, so swing by here if you want to double check.
Wednesday 20th
8pm Eastern*
The Knight Agency Chat Room
*
(that's 5pm Pacific and for any Kiwis, it's Thursday 2pm)
To get into the chat, just go to this link (http://client1.sigmachat.com/sc.pl?id=115545), enter a User Name of your choice and hit Login. Easy!
At the moment, I'll say the chat will go for an hour, but if you all have lots of questions, we'll extend it. :-) Just a reminder - this chat is for discussion of Mine to Possess & previous books in the series, so spoilers will be allowed. If you haven't read MtP yet, don't worry - I'll open the spoiler thread on the blog after the chat finishes and you can exchange comments with other readers there too.
Now, it's onto the reader interview! Today's interviewee is Karen (whose TBR pile sounds like mine!).
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm an overworked college student who is currently working 25 hours, taking 13 credit hours, trying to transfer out of community college into a four year school AND trying to have a social life (sort of? My poor boyfriend…sometimes I just want to read, and he wants me to spend time with him!)
Oh yes, and of course I need to find time to read. How else am I going to blow off steam from all of this stress? On top of that my muse tends to be evil and keep me until the wee hours of the morning writing. It feels like writing is sometimes more necessary than breathing for me. Although my body tends to remind me that breathing is a habit it likes.
2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?
*blushes* I AM a hoarder. However I am a sharing hoarder. When I read something I absolutely love, and just can't keep to myself I'll LOAN it to one of my bibliophile friends. Then we can talk about how awesome the book was, and if it's a series what the author is going to do next. My collection is somewhere between 300-500 books, but considering that space is limited right now it's about right. Oh man! I feel sorry for the poor man who ends up with me. I think he might be driven out by all the books…because I'm sure that when space isn't a problem anymore the books will be coming up like weeds then…(loveable dandelion weeds)
3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?
This is a hard one. I love some many authors! I think I'd be tempted to stalk Richelle Mead because her writing is so awesome. (And she's a redhead who reminds me of one of my dear friends) Or maybe J.K. Rowling would be my stalked of choice. I'd like to debate the Harry Potter books. (I still disagree about Dumbledore being gay. It seems too patchy and thrown together. Why didn't he tell us himself?) And quite possible you…although New Zealand is very far away from Chicago… But that's why they invented planes, right?
4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?
Incredibly. *grins* I love chocolate at least as much as I love writing, and books, and maybe less than breathing (stupid pesky breathing.) I dunno what would win if I had to choose between good yummy chocolate and breathing. (Probably breathing, otherwise how would I enjoy the chocolate?) The best combination is probably good
chocolate+ good book+ comfy chair=happy me.
5. Favorite book? Why?
Aww damn, do I have to choose? It's so hard because I'll read a book I love, and then I'll read another book I love just as much or more. I think of the books that I keep coming back to it's a tie between Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chobsky, the Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop, and The Merlin Series by Mary Stewart. Oh yes, and Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard. It's only a four way tie. I love all of these books because of how well they're written, because I can identify with the characters, and because the authors just rock my world.
6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?
i. My boyfriend (or if I'm not currently in a relationship a sex slave) in order to you know have fun with…and that way he can do all the manual labor
ii. A book that will give you any story you want anytime. (Or an e-book reader, but I like paper books better...there's something about the way the pages feel in your hands versus looking at a screen... ) So if I want Black Jewels one day I have it, but if I want Slave to Sensation the next I have that too (Or if this has to be real…then a book, just don't ask me which one because I don't know.)
iii. Chocolate
7. What did you eat for breakfast?
I ate a slice of tombstone garlic pizza. It was yummy. (I'm weird and dislike breakfast foods, except for pancakes and waffles for like dinner.)
8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?
Uhm, *looks side to side* would it seem bad if I told you I kind of lost count? The pile seems to be growing exponentially. I can't stop my fingers when they're at Amazon.com, and therefore I buy books much faster than I can read them.
9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.
Someone who is happy with themselves and comfortable in their own skin is my idea of a perfect hero. That someone would also be able to love me (or the heroine) for who I am (or she is).
Extra Reader Submitted Questions
* Which character in a book do you relate most with?
I relate to Jaenelle in the Black Jewels trilogy. She went through hell with the abuse that happened to her, but she came back stronger for it. I really identify with heroines who have overcome abuse (of any kind) and are still willing to kick the bad guy's butt. I really believe strong women are whom I identify with most.
* Where do you live?
Chi-town, baby (otherwise known as Chicago)
* So what would people think was a perfect heroine?
Strong woman is the perfect heroine. I don't like wilting flowers that can't do anything for themselves. (Don't get me wrong I think the Changeling idea of the Mating Bond is kick-ass, but Sasha, Faith, and Brenna all had a fighting spirit to begin with…) I like women who can fight for what's right, who can defeat their demons and ultimately the "bad guy".
Series, Alphas & Reader Interview:
I'm in two places at once today - at Book Binge we're discussing things I've learned while Writing A Series, and over at RR@H Novel Thoughts & Book Talk, it's all about Loving Alpha Heroes (I'm having trouble posting over on this one, but I'm around!). Come, join me!
I've also got a reader interview for your today (if you want to join in these interviews, the details are
here). Today's interview is the lovely Iswari!!
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Iswari and I live in Houston, Texas. I was born in Mumbai, India and came to Colorado when I was 2. I got married at the age of 19 to my husband in the typical Indian way with the whole fire sacrifice and everything - and in the mid summer no less! I lived there up until about 6 years ago when we moved to Houston due to my husband's job at Halliburton. I currently work for National Oilwell Varco, a drilling supply company. Now I absolutely love Houston and cannot image going back!
2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?
I am kind of picky and choosy with my books when it comes to hoarding them or giving them away. If I read it and it and was so so for me, I will turn around and try to sell it on eBay or something. Others, I will automatically go and put in my special cabinet in my closet just for the books that are always going to be with me. I defintely have the Psy/Changeling series in there *g*, J.R. Ward's BDB series, Marjorie Liu's Dirk & Steele series and Kresley Cole's IAD series.
3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?
Stalker behavior? I don't think I have ever gotten to that point about an author...atleast not yet!
4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?
I am moody about chocolate. There are days when I can eat a whole bar and others when I look at it like it is some foreign piece of crap that is totally bad for you. Go figure.
5. Favorite book? Why?
A book by Heather Graham called "A Pirate's Pleasure." The historical detail and the plot and love story are just superb. I always turn to that book when I want to remember what a good old fashioned romance is all about.
6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?
I would take my husband (because he is always resourceful), a radio (because I have to listen to music), and an endless supply of paper and pens so that I could write.
7. What did you eat for breakfast?
I had banana bread flavored oatmeal.
8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?
Everything that I keep in my special cabinet is a potential re-read for me.
9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.
A good sense of humor,intelligent, resourceful, in good physical shape and easy on the eyes. In other words, my husband. :-)
Reader Interview: Courtney
Tuesday is Reader Interview Day- if you'd like to participate in the interviews, the details are here. Today's interviewee is the lovely Courtney, Lady of the Slipper (read on to find out more...) :-)
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm a stay at home mom of a beautiful daughter who is too cute for her own good. I married a man who is utterly perfect for me and who turned out to be a fantastic dad to boot. I have my Bachelor's degree in French, but I haven't spoken it in over a year. I really need to do something about that.
2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?
In general I hoard, but I will occasionally loan out a book. In fact, my bookshelves are currently missing Slave to Sensation because I loaned it to a friend and her toddler ate it. But that's what I get for sending a book to a toddler's house, I guess! LOL
3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?
JR Ward. I'm hopelessly, shamelessly, unrepentantly addicted to the Black Dagger Brotherhood and if I could get glimpses into her current project (Phury's book) I'd totally go stalker. I took a baby step toward stalkerhood when I emailed her asking for her shoe size and favorite color so I could knit her slippers that I gave her when I met her recently. But she told me I'm not a stalker, so that's a relief.
4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?
Relatively susceptible, but it depends on the chocolate. I'm a junkie for Lindt's special dark Lindor ball truffles. If it has at least 60% cacao, I am utterly susceptible.
5. Favorite book? Why?
Wow, I have so many. The Great Gatsby and 1984 are my favorite literature-type books. I'm addicted to romance and my favorites in that genre are Lover Awakened, Slave to Sensation, Dark Magic, and Jane's Warlord. I love a good lovestory, but I also love fiction that teaches us and provokes thought and contemplation.
6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?
My bed, a huge claw-footed bathtub, and my book collection (that counts as one thing, right?).
7. What did you eat for breakfast?
The other half of my daughter's banana and a glass of apple juice. Terrible, I know. Lunch will be better.
8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?
I consume books as I buy them, so I hardly ever have a real TBR pile. I have several on my TBR mental list, but they are all making me wait for them to be released.
9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.
A loyal, strong, faithful, respectful, intelligent, alpha male who gives his whole self, vulnerablities and all, to his heroine and who accepts the same from her. He needs a good sense of humor, a good idea of what to do in bed, and know that his woman is his equal and treats her as such. He believes in something worth fighting for, worth dying for, and stands up in the face of fear and adversity for it. He is a good kisser and still flirts with his girl even after they commit to each other.
Update & Reader Interview: Lisa B.
I'm back and I'm working on the details of the new promo contest - should be up tomorrow. Oooh, what will it be?
Today, I've got a reader interview for you with Lisa B! (If you'd like to join in the interviews, check out the details here).
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
Connecticut housefrau. “Retired” 41 year old church lady and mother of 3 with a former life in the theatre. Happily married for 18 years and adore my husband, who never fails to please me (wink wink, nudge nudge). Skiing and swimming keep me occassionally fit. I hate housework, but what are you going to do, really…. My kids are the most fun a person can have in life. We have a flock of horny chickens, two dogs, and two cats.
2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?
I try to hoard, but sometimes I just have to share. A lot of my books were ruined in a house flood L.
3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?
I think I may have crossed that line with poor Meljean :-)
4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?
Not particularly. Coffee, however…it’s a weakness in all its many guises: ice cream, cake, muffins, latte's, what ever...mmmmm...coffee....
5. Favorite book? Why?
That’s really hard but some contenders are: Lisa Kleypas' Dreaming of You. Derek Craven just did it for me. I love that wrong-side-of-the-tracks guy. Meljean Brook, Demon Moon because Savitri kicks ass without being a true ass kicker. And she asks such ridiculous questions that I had to love her. Dead to the World (Charlaine Harris) because Sookie finally gets her hands on Eric, and vise versa. JR Ward, because the brotherhood is a hoot (though not intentionally) . And Eye of the World by the late Robert Jordan. A great story that will hijack you for a day or so.
6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?
My husband, some rum punch, and deck of cards.
7. What did you eat for breakfast?
Oatmeal with raisins. 4 cups of coffee…I don’t have a problem, man.
8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?
I got nothin. I need to shop. I just burned through 6 books this week.
9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.
Well, Hawke is looking really,really good to me from afar…
Reader Interview: Suzette
Tuesday is Reader Interview Day (if you'd like to participate, details are here)! Today's interviewee is is Suzette! Check out the pic of her hero!
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m a 36 year old mother of two wonderful kids, a 15 year old daughter and an 8 year old son. I’ve been with my husband 19 years, 14 of which have been married. Yes, half my life with the same man. I live in Lancaster, PA which, if you have never heard of, is Amish country. I have been an avid reader of romance novels since I was introduced to Harlequin at the age of 13. I still read romance novels but generally they have to be under the paranormal sub genre.
2. Are you a hoarder or do you give your books away?
I’m a little of both. I keep the ones I consider favorites and donate the others to the library. IF I had the room, I would be a hoarder all the way
3. What author might tempt you into turning stalker?
At the top of that list would be Sherrilyn Kenyon and Nora Roberts. Christine Feehan also inspires those “stalker” feelings.
4. How susceptible are you to chocolate?
I’m actually one of the few people who hardly eat chocolate. I know its weird but we are out there.
5. Favorite book? Why?
I wish I could name just one but I can’t. I realize that many people have a favorite but I truly can’t pinpoint just one.
6. If you knew you were going to be stuck on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?
My husband
Flint (I’ve seen Survivor)
Sharp knife
7. What did you eat for breakfast?
Coffee…well, I drank coffee. LOL
8. How many books in your current to-be-read pile?
How many books are there in the romance sections at Borders? Seriously, I never write it down but I know if I took the time it would be over a hundred if not more.
9. Describe your idea of a perfect hero.
My perfect hero is 6’2”, 220lbs, great abs, short hair, brown eyes, awesome smile, wonderful father, true friend, and loving husband. Yeah, my husband is the perfect hero in my eyes. Here’s a piccy.
