I'm currently taking care of a little hedgehog that hasn't reached its winter weight yet. Two weeks ago I found him sleeping on my doormat in the cold.
We get a fair amount of wildlife in or around our city. Most notable is the increasing number of rabbits. On any given day, it's not unusual to see one loping across somoene's front yard. Sometimes there are deer on the edge of the city, or even down near the river (how they got there is a good question, as it involves crossing a fair amount of traffic!). There are a lot of birds, though most, including the geese and pelicans, have left for the winter. And every once in a while we get a stray moose or something that causes some havoc in traffic. (We've had one or two of those in the last year. I can't remember if it was the same one in 2 different places, or 2 different ones.)
Squirrels and the occasional fox. And this Saturday, I saw a large flock (?) of cranes passing over the city going south, with their typical "gru gru" calls - what a beautiful sight! This is southwest Germany, btw...
