Friday Book Club

It's time to talk books!

I want to mention Julie James' A Lot Like Love, which has just been released. I was lucky enough to read it early, and absolutely loved it! Julie writes the most wonderful characters. If you like contemporary romance, definitely check this one out.

Here's the blurb. You can read an excerpt on Julie's website.
The FBI wants her cooperation.

As the daughter of a billionaire and the owner of the city’s top wine store, Jordan Rhodes is invited to the most exclusive parties in Chicago. But there’s only one party the FBI wants to crash: the charity fundraiser of a famous restaurateur, who also happens to launder money for the mob. In exchange for her brother’s release from prison, Jordan is going to be there—with a date supplied by the Bureau.

Agent McCall just wants her.

As the top undercover agent in Chicago, Nick McCall has one rule: never get personal. This “date” with Jordan Rhodes is merely an assignment—one they’re both determined to pull off even if they can’t be together for five minutes before the sarcasm and sparks begin to fly. But when Nick’s investigation is compromised, he and Jordan have no choice but to pretend they’re a couple, and what starts out as a simple assignment begins to feel a lot like something more. .
Okay, your turn! What are you reading and loving this week?

Just finished River Marked by P Briggs. LOVED it! So much so, I lost track of time...I snuggled up on the couch reading it while my oldest watched SpongeBob and next thing I knew he'd fallen asleep and it was 2am. Bad mommy! Next is Anne Bishop's Twilight's Dawn.

Hi, I'm a new followed and am currently reading one of your books - "Archagengels Consort" - Loving it, can't put it down!

I recently read the entire J.D.Robb "In Death" series and loved those as well. My sister have been comparing Raphael to Roarke - some similarities there - Yum!

I just finished a several books: River Marked by Patricia Briggs and This Side of the Grave were both good, but I think I liked River Marked a little better. However, the book that really blew me away was Pale Demon by Kim Harrison - it's the best Hollows book thus far.

I also read a couple of historicals - To Desire a Wicked Duke by Nicole Jordan and What I Did for a Duke by Julie Ann Long. Both were good, but I don't think either of them will go on the reread shelf (unlike the Psy-Changeling books ; )

Can't wait for May till I can get my greedy hands on KOS and Magic Slays!!!

Julie James' A Lot Like Love is on my TBR pile. May have to bump it to the top after your thumbs up.

Just finished Hidden Away by Maya Banks, which was good. Currently reading Heir to the Shadows (Black Jewels trilogy) by Anne Bishop.

After that it'll be Julie James, Jennifer Ashley's Primal Bonds, or a non-romance book, depends on my mood.

I read "White as Milk, Red as Blood" by Alessandro D`Avenia and recommend it highly. Sadly it`s not available in English at present, but in other languages as German, Spanish ... (cp. http://www.profduepuntozero.it/bianca-come-il-latte/ ).

A short review:
"White as milk, red as blood" tells Leo`s story. Leo is 16, loves foodball and prefer to roar with his moped through the streets of Rome. However, Leo has an enemy: the colar white. White is the silence, the longing and loneliness. Red, however, is the color of love, passion and the blood. Red, as Beatrice`s hair. Leo loves Beatrice and adore her from afar. A substitute teacher in literature - everybody call him the dreamer - give him the impulse to get in contact with Beatrice to try to confess his love. ...But Beatrice is sick. Seriously ill.

This book about the first love is beautiful. You can laugh, dream and yes, ... you can also cry while reading. In short, this book is a very special treasure for any bookshelf.

We're almost done w/ the move. Flying off to Michigan tomorrow. It's been a nightmare...so glad it's almost over.

I have 5 books to read on the plane tomorrow. I'm hoping I can concentrate enough to read them.

I read Dragon Actually by G. A. Aiken because someone wrote in this blog about it. I liked the book.
And I finally finished Shadowplay by Tad Williams.

I blew through Carolyn Jewel's My Immortal series, and now I'm devouring The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I haven't read any epic fantasy in a while because none lived up to expectations, but this book definitely does!

Last night I finished the Moonlight Warrior by Janet Chapman. I've now read all of her Highlander books as well as the first two of her Midnight Bay trilogy. I really like her books, because she has a lot of humor in them. I noticed that some of you are reading the JD Robb stories. I've read all of them up until Indulgence in Death, and I had a hard time reading it...in fact, I don't think I finished it (which is very unusual for me). Now, I'm not really excited to read Treachery, because I wasn't thrilled with Indulgence. :P

I went on an Elizabeth Hoyt (historical romance) marathon this week...her heroes are all very interesting (damaged) individuals. Started with to "Beguile a Beast" and then went back and read the first two books and the fourth in the quartet....then went on to her new series with "Wicked Intentions" and "Notorious Pleasures". All good stuff. I was turned onto her books by the listing I found referenced on Loretta Chase's website: All About Romance's Top 100 Romances Reader Poll. I recommend checking it out if you are also looking for some new (or old) romance listings (www.likesbooks.com/top1002010results.htm). What was really interesting, I thought, was if you scrolled down to the bottom.... there was a short section describing those books new to the list as well as those tried-and-true oldies that failed to make the cut in 2010.....Of the latter "Frederica" and "Venetia" by Georgette Heyer were two. Casualties I guess of the 'out-of-print' fading gradually from public reading consciousness - which is too bad as they are fabulous, fabulous books.

I too have in my reading pile

River Marked. Seems like everybody is reading these two books. I am also reading the Pyr series by Deborah Cooke. This weekend however I plan to finished "Stone of Tears" by Terry Goodkind. A massive book that's over 1000 pages. I am hooked on this series after watching marathon episodes of the TV series "Legend of the Seeker" has anyone else watched these?

I'm currently reading (still) Traitor's Knot (Janny Wurts). Over half way through though!

Also, a lovely person sent me The Admiral's Penniless Bride (Carla Kelly). I love how both the hero and heroine are older than what is normally seen in historical romances. It's a lovely book so far.

Anneela said...

I read A Compromised Lady (Elizabeh Rolls) and The Admiral's Penniless Bride (Caroline Linden).

The first was an okay read.

The second was a very sweet novel and I'd recommend it to anyone.
