I've been catching up on my reading over the past couple of weeks, so I'm going to be doing some book posts this week.
First up, Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs. It was awesome. I just love the developing relationships both between the main, and the secondary characters, as well as how the world itself continues to deepen and grow.
Seeing more of Samuel was wonderful - I can't wait to see where Patricia Briggs takes this storyline.
I know a lot of you are fans of this series too - what do you love most about it?
p.s. If you haven't yet read this series, start with the first book, Moon Called.

I have yet to read Silver Borne (I'm so behind with all the good releases), but I am starting Shalador's Lady (Anne Bishop) today - finally! *grin*
I love both Bran & Adam...they both have to balance how they feels for Mercy with the bigger issues. Oh, and I'm a huge Warren fan! I love how he was able to keep how dominant he was hidden...so much more to him than meets the eye :)
And now I want to read Silver Borne!
Samuel's wolf is the best. I'm glad Sam took over. I was anxious for that book because of Sam.
Mercy was a little trigger happy in this book. She was shooting at everyone. Too bad Henry didn't die. I never wanted a character killed off more than him.
I love all of Patricia Briggs' books, and the Mercy Thompson books are fun. I was so happy for Sam at the end of the book.
I do confess that I tend to prefer Anna and Charles' books since they are more romantic somehow.
I really wish Patty would do more Hurog books and am looking forward to Masques this fall.
I just finished the new book, Much Fall of Blood by Mercedes Lackey, Eric Flint and Dave Freer. It's book 4 of the Heirs of Alexandria series which I thoroughly recommend. If you haven't read them, start with Shadow of the Lion and enjoy!
I totally agree with you Nalini, I loved this book and I just loved Samuel! *sigh*
For me, I love the characters and the world that Patricia Briggs has created. I like her ideas on vampires, werewolves, shifters, and fae.
Silver Borne was brilliant, I love Sam. The world Patricia Briggs has got in her werewolf books is awesome. The way she captures her fae is just excellent, so full of the old myths. I love the A&O series too, but that's mostly for the added Bran effect.
I have so much love for that enigmatic tyrant.
She has so many great secondary characters, it's a wonder they haven't taken over yet.
I love this series (as well as the Alpha and Omega series that's set in the same world). I think this was one of my favorite books in the series. I love the developing relationship between Mercy and Adam.
I love how Mercy isn't perfect. She screws up, is honest with herself and does her best for those she cares for. I enjoyed Samuel's story in this book and how each character gets a little deeper and more real with each book.
If you like shifter books then I highly recommend this one.
I really love how Patricia Briggs doesn't jump right in and tell you everything about a character at once. She lets you discover them over the course of the series. Eventually you know the characters so well that she does not even have to tell you how they will react to certain events -- you already know!
Other than that, I just really love Mercy's character. Her coyote characteristics and how she torments the werewolves just make me laugh all the time.
I like going back and forth between her and Anna now, because they are just so different. Seeing the wolves through Anna's eyes makes you realize that some of what we've learned through Mercy's filters are not exactly accurate. They are warped a bit by Mercy's own perceptions and (ack, can't think of the word -- like childhood fears but not). Which makes Mercy deeper as a character as well.
I think that my favorite part of this series is Mercy's optimism and can do attitude. She recognizes her limits but continues to push herself everytime. And I love that she cooks as a form of therapy! I would love to be her neighbor.
I thoroughly enjoyed Silver Borne as well. I think what I love is the complex nature of Mercy (she is imperfect) and the interplay between her and the other characters. I enjoy the banter.
The world also intrigues me. I enjoy the blending of legends and the "horror" world icons along with the fae.
I was thrilled to see Samuel and the hope we are left with.
I love this series, and I love that Mercy isn't always confident, and she sometimes screws up, and she's human, in a coyote sort of way...
And quickly becoming a favorite of mine is Ben... He's come along way, and I think he's still got a ways to go, but I love him more with each book.
I'm not sure I should thank you for the blog. Based on that, I downloaded book 1 and read it over a few hours time.
I'm supposed to be picking up the house now, not ordering the next book. Good thing Kindle downloads quickly.
Thanks for the recommendation!!
Helen G says...
I absolutely love the dynamic character of Mercy. She's strong and gutsy but knows when she could use a helping hand! Adam is terrific as he is alpha male but without having to be overly aggresive he straddles that line very well. I have love Patricia's books for some time now and I am absolutely in love! And I love that cover of Silver Borne, its different from what I have. So its cool that you posted yours.
Well until next time! Take care Nalini!
Helen G.
I only read Silver Bourne in the last few days. It was really good.
I, like everyone else here was pleased with what happened to Sam. I was soo relieved. Patricia Briggs really had me on the edge with the 'Sam' situation.
I am still on a damn list in the library for this book. I love this series. I love Adam and Mercy together but I also love Sam....I am worried about his state, but from what I read in the comments it turns out ok...phew!
I love how PB makes it real...her Characters are real as people (even if they are wolf/cayote etc). Love most of the Characters in this book.
