It's a long weekend over here, so the next post will be up on Tuesday, New Zealand time. And since it'll be June, I might have an excerpt of Branded By Fire for you ;-)
Onto the book club - all about recommending books you've enjoyed!
I've just started Unfallen Dead by Mark Del Franco. This is the third book in the excellent Connor Grey series and I can't wait to get back to it. If you're looking for a new urban fantasy series to try, I'd highly recommend this one.
Okay, your turn. What are your book recommendations?

I read the first of this series, Unshapely Things and I just wasn't a fan.
Rob Thurman's Cal Leandros series (starts with Nightlife) is much better IMHO.
I just reread Nancy Haddock's La Vida Vampire and loved it. The next one, Last Vampire Standing just came out and I'll have to go get it soon.
P.S. I really can't wait for an excerpt from you!!!
Butterfly Tattoo by Deidre Knight, so touching and beautiful. The little girl in that book just broke my heart.
Just re-read Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Mine to Possess, because crying during BT wasn't enough :( I'm a glutton sometimes.
I just started 'Honest Illusion' by Nora Roberts for the nth time.
Oh, and finished all of TA Chase's books: MM Romance featuring cowboys and another series featuring sports personalities; very nice reads.
Have a great weekend!
I am reading the anthology "First Blood" with stories by Susan Sizemore, Erin McCarthy, Chris Marie Green, and Meljean Brook. I've read the first two stories (which were really good) and I'm on the third now which is very compelling and fascinating. It's a good read.
I read a series this week that I enjoyed but not something that really stood out as something I'd recommend. However, I do recommend this anthology and I haven't even finished it yet. I'm sure Ms. Brook's story will be good, she hasn't disappointed me yet in her short stories. They have all been really good (which is why her Guardians series is on my library request list).
This past week has been amazing for book reads. Even though I've heard so much about JD Robb's (aka Nora Roberts) In Death series, I've never read them. I've finished the first two, Naked in Death and Glory in Death, and has discovered that there are over 30 books released with another coming out later this year. *pauses and dances with joy* The next month is going to be full of Eve and Roarke. The In Death series is great - if you haven't read it, you have to start.
Another excerpt of Branded by Fire, eh? Please tell me that that was NOT a typo. Can't wait till Tuesday!
Tina
And since it'll be June, I might have an excerpt of Branded By Fire for you ;-)*keels over with excitement*
I've just finished reading When Gods Die, which is the second book in CS Harris' historical suspense series and I can't rave about it enough! SUCH A GOOD BOOK! I'm now reading Maureen Ash's A Plague of Poison, which is the third in her Knight Templar medieval suspense series set in Lincoln. I love how stark everything is in both this book and in When Gods Die!
And Nalini I have your 'currently reading' book on my TRB list. I like how Connor has lost his powers (no spoiler BTW) and has to use his wits!
I've just got done w/Blood Red by James A. Moore. A horror/vampire novel. Pretty good. I've reread Lynn Viehl's Darkyn series. The first is def the best. It has actually been a slow week. I haven't read a lot of new books, much less anything I'd recommend so I'm kind of frustrated.
Una, Meljean's story in First Blood was great, my favorite of all in that anthology, and a favorite of the year.
I now have the first 3 of that CS Harris series, really got my interest and I hope to start in this weekend.
Just finished Burning Wild, next in Feehan's leopard series. Very good plot and pacing, and very hot. This leopard is very dominant and controlling, more so because of his childhoold so you understand that need in him. His female understands that need in him and knows how to handle him. Some may think she's submits too easily, but she's very strong-minded and he controls only because she allows it. She isn't afraid to let him know what she won't take.
I am about to start "Kiss and Hell" by Dakota Cassidy. I have been busy trying to track down a copy of the book "Wild at Heart" that you recommended. No such luck :( It really sounds like a good read. Can't wait for the excert of Branded by Fire! Woo Hoo!
I really enjoyed Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark Series, so I thought I'd try out the (non-paranormal) Sutherland Brothers Series, and I thought the two books were a great read.
And at Nalini's suggestion, I am currently reading Wild At Heart, if it wasn't for work I'd be reading it at this very moment!
Burned Alive: The Sentinel Wars by Shannon K. Butcher.
I really liked it. It's the first in a new series by her.
Jennifer K.
Ah Friday!! I must get that Patricia Gaffney book you spoke of in the other post. I love to discover earlier books too!
Nalini,I never heard of that series your reading. One I must look into. Have you read the Victoria Thompson's Gaslight Mysteries series. (First is Murder on St. Mark's Place) Its Historical mysteries set in turn of the century in NYC. There's a bubbing romance in them and just so good. Midwife Sarah Brandt and Detective Sergeant Frank Malloy)
Ashley Gardner (Jennifer Ashley) also has a hard to find series and has a few out. Hers are set in London in Regency time. So good, so emotional, a very dark past for the hero. I didn't think I'd read anything 'mystery' but its not, its more of a series historical that I love reading in that setting and so worth a try.
Mariana--Your mention of Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips makes me want to pull it off my keeper shelf and reread it (it's been years). I love that story!
Just wish Butterfly Tattoo would come out in Kindle format. It's getting so much buzz on the net that I'm wanting to read it.
Thanks to Jennifer K's recommendation, I picked up a copy of Burning Alive (Shannon Butcher) when I was in the book store. Now to have time to read!
I'm reading Dial Emmy for Murder by Eileen Davidon. It's a Soap Opera murder mystery. So far it's funny and moves quickly. Good light read, it's making me laugh.
Another week of RL getting in the way and didn't finish my books from last week -- still reading Bad to the Bone by Jeri Smith-Ready and Ashes of Midnight by Lara Adrian. Ugh! Doesn't RL know that we need to read?!
Mariana, I'm jelous that you got to re-read Honest Illusions, I have a few by NR out for re-reads between my reads... but no luck with time. :(
Ever the optimist, I'm hoping I'll catch with all of you next week.
What a tease! Now I'll be checking the blog for that Branded... excerpt daily *g*
Have a great weekend!! This week I read
HeartMate/Robin Owens-Loved it
Blood Magic/Jennifer Lyon-Loved it
Darkness Revealed/Alexander Ivy-Loved it
Ravenous/Sharon Ashwood-Loved it
Dream Hunter/Sherrilyn Kenyon-Liked it
Hilcia - there's nothing but reading on the hour long commute to work. Luckily for me, we've had a bit of down time at work too, so I've been sneaking in some reading time there as well.
For some reason, I've been putting off starting any new books from my TBR pile. I guess I need some comfort reading ;)
I just finished re-reading my favorite Joan Wolf book, Golden Girl. I love this book. I fall in love with the characters again every time I read it. Other than that initial deception, the protagonists are so honest with one another and I love how Ms. Wolf really shows the villains slow descent to, well, villainy.
I plan on starting Deathwish by Rob Thurman as soon as I finish this sentence!
Oh, I love Mark Del Franco's Connor Grey series! :D
Okay, this week, I read through Maria V. Snyder's 4 books in 3 days. They were just that good!
Study series:
- Poison Study
- Magic Study
- Fire Study
Glass series(set in the same world):
- Storm Glass
Oh and I reread(again) Kristen Britain's Green Rider.
I'm currently reading Shannon K. Butcher's BURNING ALIVE. I'm a little less than halfway through, and I'm enjoying it a lot.
I've read 35 new books (not counting rereads) for the month of May. What haven't I read?
Just read all of KMM's Highlander series, the latest books from Mary Balogh (very good), Kim Harrison's YA debut, Holly's Inbox (review book...was interesting), Ashes of Midnight by Lara Adrian, etc, etc, etc.
My brain is mush. So sad. :P
I am reading Chocolat by joanna harris for my bookclub and also flatland by edwin abbott, as soon as I am finished with chocolat I will be starting on sweet persuarion by maya banks ... really really excited about the excerpt ... can't wait
:winks:
Change that to 40 new books for May. I am, officially, a freak of nature. *sigh*
Jory - Kiss an Angel is one of my top books and always makes me cry.
Butterfly Tattoo, was such a beautiful book, I hope you get to read it soon.
Oh, and congrats on a great book (Ghostland). I have Spider Touched on my calender :)
Thanks Mariana!
I just finished reading Jennifer Crusie's Agnes and the Hitman, and am on book 6 of Simon R. Green's Nightside series. Love them both, although Green might be losing momentum.
Tomorrow will be all over the latest Anita Blake novel- Skin Trade. Can't wait until July for Branded by Fire and Feehan's Hidden Currents!
