Movies: Jodhaa-Akbar

I love this movie. It's about the marriage of alliance between a Mughal emperor (Akbar) and a Rajput princess (Jodhaa). This movie has got everything - the arranged marriage, the unexpected passion, the fantastic historical setting, the intrigue....but really, I'm there for the love story.

Here's the trailer (with English subtitles).

And here's a link to one of my favorite scenes from the movie. No subtitles but I think you'll figure out what's happening. Wait till around the 2.35 mark - talk about tension!

Needless to say, I have the collectors edition dvd :)

Seen any good movies/dvds lately?

I love Jodhaa-Akbar, Nalini! Everything is amazing in this movie: the costumes, the story, the actors, the music... Hrithik and Aishwarya have some powerful chemistry going on here (same in Dhoom 2). I truly hope they'll make more movies together.;-)

I just finished seeing the movie on youtube. Though a lot of subtitles were missing, I really enjoyed it. Thanks for posting it!

Is this movie w/ English subtitles available in the States? All I can say is the visual feast of the two leads is enough to make me...well, I'm fully envious.

However, your bottom linky caused my computer to do a mini-crash, so I've gotta be careful.

Like you said though, the sexual tension between the two of them is quite smokin' hot. :)

Um...what else? It's not a musical, is it? Or kind of? I've only seen Bride & Prejudice and though I liked it, some of the songs made my head hurt. Broaden my horizons, please. :D

Bridget, the dvd is available on Amazon, so I assume it's available in the U.S.

It's got songs, but no one gets up and sings and dances in this one. The songs flow into the storyline and they're quite lovely.

Is the link doing something funky? Let me know if I should remove it.

Oh, and the dvd comes with subtitles. I think pretty much all the new Bollywood movies do.

I like the movie too! It is great! And the costumes and music is amazing. So is Hrithik - my fav actor! Do you need the english subtitles?

Thanks, Nalini! :) Will have to look into it from my library.

The 2nd link caused my system to completely freeze. It's not you, it's the linky itself. :(

I didn't buy the DVD for this one but I very much enjoyed it in theater :-D. An epic, colorful historical movie with great leads who pack some serious chemistry! I went to see that ovie mostly because I'm a Hrithik fangirl and thought he made a terrific screen couple with Ash. They were actually better in Jodhaa-Akbar, because Aishwarya's character was better written and interpreted this time.

Bridget Locke - I order all my Bollywood DVDs from the online retailer India Weekly. They usually have very good prices and quality, and all movies have English subtitles. Jodhaa Akbar is currently offered at $11.99 for the three-disc set, plus shipping :).

I'm still kinda envious of people who have Bolly movies in their video clubs or can rent them by mail. No such thing in Canada.

Sonia - I don't usually need subtitles, but the language used in this movie was so pure (and some of it I don't think is in modern use much at all) that I occasionally had to turn them on.

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. And the music was awesome as well. I know that you can get it from Netflix normally.
