Here's how it works: Open the book closest to you, not your favorite or most intellectual book, but the book closest to you at the moment, to page 56. Write out the fifth sentence, as well as two to five sentences following there.
The war wreaked serious damage to the building, but even greater damage was wreaked by the flood of 1966 when many of the sacred books (Tora) were lost.
Along the avenues which encircle the city, halfway between the ancient northern gate (Porta San Gallo) and the eastern gate (Porta all Croce), one finds...

"Fine. I'll call him myself." He displayed the business card he'd kept when he'd returned her other things.
Cassie muttered a curse and snatched up the telephone. "I'll call him," she grumbled, punching in Tony's office number.
From p. 56 of Gina Ferris' Hardworking Man, SSE 806 from 1993. I'm rereading books from my keeper shelves and this is the 2nd book in the wonderful Family Found series......

From Silent in the Sanctuary by Deanna Raybourn. I LOVED her first book - Silent in the Grave (a Victorian romantic suspense) - and am loving Silent in the Sanctuary!

Oh, I forgot, this was from 'Naked in Death' by JD Robb (ebook version so print p56 may be different). Re-reading for the Nth time, but once more doesn't hurt :)
James put his glass down and straightened his jacket. Talking about his wife had made his need to see her all the more imperative.
"My status of clan leader has its benefits, Alexander. She is honor bound to obey me without question, like all the others. (...)."
From p. 56 of Mina Hepsen`s "under the blood red moon"; 2008.

"Who are you and how do you know Maddox?"
"Let me go!" Ashlyn wiggled and squirmed, trying to free herself from her captor's iron grip. Her ankle throbbed but she didn't care. "They're killing him in there!" Oh God, they were killing him, stabbing him over and over again. There'd been so much blood...such terrible screams. She gagged, remembering.
