After finishing the most recent draft of Mercy's book, I took some time off to read. The Sugar Queen was one of the books I picked up.
Here's the blurb from the author's website.
Here's the blurb from the author's website.
Josey, at 27, doesn't go out except to do chores for her mother, she doesn't wear clothes that her mother says don't suit her, and she eats, secretly, as a substitute for the life she's not living. One morning, when she goes to her closet to raid her secret stash of sweets, she finds a woman sitting there. Della Lee, on the run from something in her own life, has decided to take up residence in Josey's closet. Thus begins Josey's quest to get this madwoman out of her closet, and along the way she discovers a world where the color red has astonishing power, passion can make eggs fry in their cartons, and romance can blossom any time -- even for her.I really enjoyed Sarah Addison Allen's debut, Garden Spells, so I was looking forward to this one. And I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed. It's a different story from Garden Spells, but has that same unique sense of magic and romance. Totally recommended :)
What books are you all reading? Any recommendations?

Hi Ms. Nalini~~~ It's so great to see your blog active again. I hope you've been well ^_^.
For this book, do I need to read the first one to understand this? Is it a stand alone?
Hey Alice :) This book is totally stand alone. No need to read the previous one.
Have you read Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen? Excellent book! I highly recommend it.
I'm glad to see you back Nalini :)
I just finished Servant: The Awakening by L.L.Foster. It's really dark and gritty , just what I was in the mood to read.
Ohhh, thank you for the recommendation Nalini - it sounds really good. *orannia scribbles away on her TBR list*
I've just finished reading Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr and it was very good! I won't say much as I don't want to spoil it for anyone but I found it a very thought provoking book.

Thanks for the review Nalini. Will have to add to the TBR.
Lately I've been reading a lot of Lora Leigh's Breed Series.
I am in the midst of reading Colleen Gleason's regency vampire slayer series. She is a wonderful writer who can sure write a great romance, action and some yummy heroes!
Why Nalini, it sounds like I am talking about you!
I heard the Garden Spells series was pretty good. I'll have to give it a try next time I go out to the bookstore. Have you read any of the Kitty the Werewolf series by Carrie Vaughn? They're really good reads!!
Jana, no I haven't. I'll check it out.
Sweet - is it more horror oriented or would you classify it as paranormal?
Orannia - I've got that on my tbr!
Amy - I luuuuuurve the Breed books.
Akiakiaki - no, somehow those have slipped under the radar. Adding name to list!
Sweet - is it more horror oriented or would you classify it as paranormal?
The spine says paranormal romance, but its definitely UF with romantic elements and a good dose of horror thrown in.
I also agree with Akiakiaki you should really give the Kitty books a try. They're REALLY good.
