Book Cravings

There's been an interesting discussion going on in one of my email groups about different types of romances, which got me to thinking about what kinds of books I'd like to see more of. I'm a western fan, so I'd love to see more western books out there.

What about you guys? And if you're not craving anything, what can't you get enough of? (Books, people, I'm talking about books *grin*).

I'm still a huge supernatural fan ... psychics, vamps, shifters, Psy/Changling *snicker* ... not so much ghosts, though.

Oh, and I like some futuristic type books, too.

All of the above are romance, of course. I don't actually read much else.

P.S. I'm ready for a Dorian exerpt. Any day now. Any day.

Hmmm. Urban fantasy is my genre of choice at the moment.

Nalini - if you're a westerns fan have you read Sarah McCarty's Caine's Reckoning? I'm not a big cowboy's fan but I've heard a lot of good stuff about this one, so am going to give it a go.

I'd really like to see more plain jane romances, I don't care what kind of genre it goes into. Urban Fantasy, paranormal or contemporary it doest matter as long as I get to see it. Also more friends to lovers romance. The only thing better is to see the two combined.
I'd like to see more comedy romance too. There doesnt seem to be a lot of those floating around these days.

Jennifer K. - hey, Clay's starting to feel like you don't like him!!

Lesley - I've heard lots of good stuff about Sarah McCarty as well. I think she's definitely someone I have to read.

Sweet - I'm reading a Plain Jane romance right now (Julia Quinn's - Romancing Mr. Bridgerton) , and it's really good, so if you like historicals, check it out. And I enjoy friends to lovers romances too - Mine to Possess has a hint of that :)

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm all aflutter for Clay, no doubt about it. And, BTW, we could use a new excerpt from him, too ... just saying!

But, you've been so MEAN to poor Dorian! I mean, the man can't SHIFT! And he lost his sister to an evil Psy. MEAN!!!! So I'm REALLY, REALLY wanting good things for the poor man ... after you put him through more angst, of course!

What am I craving . . . besides more from you Nalini? Clay, Dorian, Hawke, I'm not picky :)

I'm a huge paranormal/supernatural fan. Like Jennifer said, psychics, vamps, shifters, I love it all. I also love historical and western romances.

Jennifer, I have a few authors if you are interested while waiting on Dorian's exerpt : )

Speaking of Dorian, didn't you hint that we have seen his mate Nalini? Or am I remembering something else?

Hi Nalini,

I've never really been into westerns. Historicals I'm always a fan of. I wish there were some more good medievals out there. Regency, I'm really excited for the new Anna Campbell book coming out next month (Untouched).

Paras are something I always have a taste for. Vampires, shifters, witches, and demons.

And you know what I really have a taste for? DORIAN. Any info Nalini? Pretty please? :)

Hugs,
Kat

Since my craving has to be book related *grumble grumble* then I'm craving Dorian's book (actually, I'd settle for an excerpt :)

Nalini, if you like westerns have you tried any books by Jodi Thomas? She has written a few books (which are hard to find here) but she has a series I love, the first book being 'The Texan's Wager'!

Oh, and I'm currently reading the CL Wilson book...it's good!

I HAVE been mean to Dorian, haven't I? I don't think he's too happy with me right now either *grin*

As for his heroine...I think you'll pick up who it is in Mine to Possess. So read verrrrrry carefully ;)

Orannia, we cross-posted! Thanks for the Jodi Thomas recom. I'm going to look those up. :)

You're welcome :) And I just thought of another author - Mary Burton. I've only read two of her books, but I loved The Perfect Wife (so much so that when I arrived back in NZ I rang my local library in London and asked for a list of previously issued books). You know how it is when I book gets in your head and there's no rest until you've read it? Maybe that's just me...:)

Dorian's heroine is in Mine to Possess? YAH! Oh, and BTW I loved Romancing Mr Bridgerton and I was rapt to FINALLY read about a 'Plain Jane' heroine who got an HEA!

PS kat, I'm always on the look out for a good medieval book, so if you know of any...? *please, please with sugar on top?*

My three favourites are Knight's Move (Jennifer Landsbert), The Husband Test (Bettina Krahn) and The Prize (Julie Garwood).

Fairy tales. I've always loved them and I'm constantly on watch for new ones. I'm especially fond of Cameron Dokey's Once Upon A Time series. Her books Beauty Sleep (best treatment of the 100 year sleep I've seen) and Sunlight & Shadow (fascinating take on the Magic Flute) landed on my all time favorites list. I hopes she writes more for that line.

Nalini - you're killing me, lol. Will there be an excerpt for HtP in the back of MtP? *heart* Dorian :)

Orannia - I love Garwood's medievals. I also highly recommend Kinley MacGregor's medievals. The MacAlister series and the Brotherhood of the Sword series (which overlap some). I recommend starting with Master of Desire (prequal to both series) or Claiming the Highlander (first MacAlister book).

I am not too picky as soon as the read is hot and romantic. I'll go for it.
I used not like paranormal until I read "Slave to Sensation" Now I love a good read about a Hot shifter Hero.

I third the call for more medievals. And I'm really excited that Garwood's new medieval is going to be in Dec/Jan.

I would never have pegged me to be a western gal, but after reading a few (contemp and hist) Linda Lael Miller, I'm game for another well-established author. The same goes for contemp stories set in small towns of the South. After reading Susan Crandall, I'd like to reading a known writer.

I'm craving more of LKH's Merry Gentry series and more of PC's House of Night series. In general, I'd love to see more shifter/were books and more books with faerie in them.

and I could always use more psy books *wink wink*

Jennifer--

Some authors other people posted. Julie Garwood's historicals are awesome (I haven't read any of her contemporary ones yet), Moon Called (Part of the Mercy Thomson series) by Patricia Briggs is good, and Kinley MacGregor/Sherrilyn Kenyon is also good.

Kat: THe Warrior (Lachlan's story) comes out Nov. 27th.

--Kresley Cole has a paranormal romace series (there are 3 books so far). The first one is A Hunger Like No Other.
--I adore Christine Feehan's Drake Sisters (and am just starting her other series; she has 5).
--Robin D. Owen's 2 Series, Celta & her Summoning series.
--I just got into Erin McCarthy (she had a novella in the same anthology as Nalini).
--I've heard good reviews about JR Wards brotherhood series, and Kelley Armstrong. I just picked up Gena Showalters' Alien Huntress series (So I don't know how they are yet).
--Karen Marie Moning has a gorgous Highlander series, and a Fae series, and all of PC Cast's goddess books are absolutely fabulous.
--Yasmine Galenorn has 2 books out right now that are okay (Witchling and Changeling).
--as I'm sure you've read Nora roberts, but her Circle trilogy was great (I like her trilogies more than her stand alone titles).

I hope some of these are new to you, Jennifer!

I'm craving more Nalini Singh, Marjorie M. Liu, Jacquelyn Frank, CL Wilson, Mercedes Lackey, Patricia Briggs, Michelle Sagara's Cast in series, Diana Wynne Jones, Christine Warren, Patricia Wrede, Lisa Shearin, Sharon Shinn, Cameron Dokey, Allyson James, Mary Jo Putney, Joan Wolf, Christina Skye, Linnea Sinclair.... I could go on and on. It's a mix of fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal, science fiction, children's books, and regency romances. Sigh.... Why can't you all write faster?? Or get published fasther?? I really miss good regency romances. I wish Carla Kelly would write some more....
