Guest Blogger: Gena Showalter!

To kick off the week of guest bloggers, we've got the fabulous and funny Gena Showalter, who is totally gorgeous and does not have hay hair. Read on to find out what I'm talking about. (Gena's also giving away a signed copy of Enslave Me Sweetly - just leave a comment to enter the draw.)

It’s a wee bit intimidating, coming here. Nalini is a brilliant, insightful, amazingly talented woman. Meanwhile, I am known for my Hay Hair, Bitch Slapping, and Gnomes. So as not to humiliate myself all the more, I'll move on to a different topic quickly. Originally, I planned to discuss my upcoming release Savor Me Slowly. Rather than do so – because I want to talk about other people’s books -- I’ll just post a short mention of what it’s about:

Mishka Le’Ace was created to be an undercover operative . . . literally. Her beautiful body has been mechanically augmented to give her superhuman strength -- strength she’s going to need. Her latest mission sends her to rescue Alien Investigation and Removal agent Jaxon Tremain from torture and death. With him, she discovers a passion unlike any other. A passion she was forbidden to know. . .

From the moment they meet in a darkened cell, Jaxon craves her touch. But the machine half of Le’Ace forces her to do things she doesn’t always want to do. Even betray him . . . and ultimately destroy him. Now Jaxon must battle the man controlling Le’Ace and even Le’Ace herself to at last claim the woman he’s come to love.

Now then. My list of Upcoming Must Have Books:

Wicked Deeds On a Winters Night by Kresley Cole. This book comes out Oct. 30th and it is absolutely amazing! I want to live the world Kresley has created, I want to date the men, and I want to be BFF’s with the women (otherwise they would bitch slap me).

Tall, Dark and Filthy Rich by Jill Monroe. A Nov. 1st release. I absolutely adore Jill’s sense of humor. She’s one of those authors that can have me laughing out loud and sighing dreamily when I finish the book. And baby, she writes steaming hot love scenes.

Bloodfever by Karen Moning. This is book 2 in the Fever series, due out any day now, and I am drooling for it! I must know what’s going on with Mac.I want to learn all of Jericho Barrons secrets. Anyone else lusting for this mystery man?

I just read Lover Unbound by JR Ward and found it breathtaking and phenomenal. What I’m reading now is an ARC of Demon Night by Meljean Brook and I am loving every word!

What have you recently read? What are you reading now?

Mostly recently read Lover Unbound and Caressed by Ice. Also enjoyed new author Eve Kenin's Driven. It's so difficult having to wait for the next in the series! Until then I'll probably re-read favourites (currently Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas) or keep an eye out for recs like Jill Monroe's newest - thanks Gena!

I just finished reading Creation in Death - I got it early. I love Roarke (who doesn't?), and there was a scene with him and Belle, that was so sweet (and funny)! I just love scenes with men and babies.

Gena - I love your books and I felt your pain reading the Hay hair story, but you have to admit it was funny!

HI Gena, while patiently awaiting Savor Me Sweetly, I've been reading a little bit of everything. I recently read Agnes and the Hitman, by Jennifer Crusie. Laugh out loud funny, I love her books. I also read Lover Unbound and despite the ending, I did enjoy the book. Right now I am reading Touched by Darkness by Catherine Spangler, so far so good. My upcoming to buy has Holy Smokes by Katie Macalister, Upon the Midnight Clear by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Elijah by Jacki Frank and a few others I can't recall.

Hi Gena!
Are there plans for a Mysteria sequel? ^_^ I hope so!
I am anxiously awaiting Blood Fever and Wicked Deeds on a Winter night. I can't wait for either of those! In the few spare moments I have, I've been rereading some of PC Cast's works.

Allison, I adored Caressed by Ice. Nalini is SO good. And Driven was excellent. Eve is another wonderful author.

Dobby, thank you! And I can't deny it is funny. She was so sincere and wanted so badly to commiserate with me :)

Rena, I totally agree with you about Agnes. I laughed out loud many times. And several of the books you named, I am very eager to pick up.

pamk, thank you, you sweetie! You will not be disappointed in Kresley's newest. It is amazing!

Helen, thank YOU :)

Chriss, yes indeed! In fact, I just turned in my novella. It's Glory and Falon's story and titled A Tawdry Affair. As for PC's books. . . I was lucky enough to read an ARC of Warrior Rising. OMG, the book is fabulous! One of her absolute best!

Hi Gena - Welcome! I just finished my first book of yours, The Nymph King. I loved it. Unique and fun story!

How did you get started writing?

Shari C said...

I just finished Caressed by Ice and it was as great as the other Psy-Changeling books plus I have now started The Morgue the Merrier, an anthology by Rosemary Laurey, Karen Kelley and Dianne Castell.
Have enjoyed your wonderful works including Awaken Me Darkly, playing with Fire and Heart of the Dragon to name a few. Thank you for the enjoyable hours of reading.

Marykate, thank you! I believe I had just dropped out of college for the 3rd time -- I could not decide on a major. I sat down and had a heart to heart with myself about what I could honestly see myself doing for years to come. There was only one answer and that was writing. I'd dabbled off and on for years, but after the realization that I wanted to go all the way, I got serious. I've never looked back :)

Shari, thank you so much!

Hi Gena,

LOL, you sure you didn't recite my book list by accident?

I just finished Lover Unbound of course- good book, different ending, but it works for them. Moon's Fury by C.T. Adams & Cathy Clamp - another of the Sazi. And I'm waiting on the ARC to get here for the new JD Robb book, since I get to review it and it's hitting shelves in about 3 weeks. The other book I just finished was also an ARC - Stephanie Rowe's Sex & the Immortal Bad Boy - another great story from Stephanie!

Hi, Gena,

I've read Nalini's latest, of course, J.R. Ward's latest, the C.L. Wilson book and Krelsey Cole's. Lots more that I can't think of right now.

Have a great day.

Hi Gena,

I have a question about your writing. Do you find it difficult to go from writing 1st person to 3rd person? What makes you go back and forth?

I read the new Lisa Kleypas over the weekend and LOVED it. Now I'm reading the new Jo Goodman. It hasn't really grabbed me so far, but I expect that it will. :)

Gena Showalter said...

Not difficult to switch because I write the story the way the characters tell/show it to me. Both Awaken Me Darkly and Enslave Me Sweetly are 1st person, but Savor Me Slowly is 3rd. I couldn't tell it in 1st. Jaxon, the hero, had to have his say, too :)

I am currently in the middle of Monica McCarty's Highlander trilogy. I loved Highlander Untamed and I am loving Highlander Unmasked.

Gena, i love reading your blogs! They truly crack me up. When I wasn't reading your blog, I read Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night by K.Cole on Friday. I love Bowen! That was a really good book.

I also read the Enchanted Season anthology with Nalini's story in it last week(wonderful wonderful wonderful). I'm on pins and needles for Clays story!

Lastly, I'm in the middle of Mine till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas.

Keep those blogs a comin!

My daughter just lent me some books and she's into all of Oprah's picks so I just finished "Running with Scissors" and am currently reading "Middlesex."

So many good books and not enough time! And wanted to add that I love your covers!

Hi Gena,
I'm excited that there's a new Alien book coming out, L'Ace seems like a fierce chick, I've got Blacklisted in my TBR,but I liked her in Red Handed.

I recently read Sex& The Immortal Bad Boy by Stephanie Rowe(Nov.1st), it is an awesome read, the way she portrays the devil constantly trips me out.

I'm itching to read the new Kresly Cole and S. Kenyon book.
Hugs, Danette
