Dorian's Book & Heroes

Dorian's book now has an official title: "Hostage to Pleasure" Oooooh ;)

I know Dorian is a favorite with many of you, so today, I thought we'd talk about favorite heroes. Who are some of your favorites? And why do you think you love them so much?

I think my favorite heroes have a number of things in common, one being that while they might be dangerous to everyone else, they'll do anything for the heroine. Sigh...

In one of those weird coincidences, right after I put up this post, I checked my blog feed and found an article up at RTB about heroes. It's very interesting and discusses some of the archetypes, so swing by and check it out.

Hmm...favorite heroes...boy, I love this topic. :) Here's a list in no particular order.

Roarke from JD Robb's In Death series-for one thing he's rich, for another thing he doesn't take any crap from Eve, but you can tell he's totally in love with her.

Derek Craven from Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas. He's so tortured and loves her so much, but doesn't feel he's good enough for her. *sigh*

Simon Hunt from Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas. I liked him a lot because he takes one look at Annabelle, knows he wants her and isn't afraid to do what it takes to get her. Yummy!

Theodore Westgaard from Years by LaVyrle Spencer. Growly and grumpy, but sexier than sexy too. *sigh*

Oh, I have so many more, but off the top of my head these are the ones that I love!

While trying to decide, I realized that I tend to like a book more for the strength of the heroine than the hero. Hmm. So, in no particular order, here are the ones that came to mind....

Jamie Fraser from Diana Gabladon's Outlander. What a wonderful, tortured, fantastic character she created in him.

Cal Harris from Susan Elizabeth Phillips Chicago Stars series. Come to think of it, I also like Dan Calebow from the same series.

Alex from SEP's Kiss An Angel, one of my favorite rereads.

Kier (forgot the last name) from Elizabeth Vaughan's Warprize, Warsworn, and Warlord. Great series.

Christopher (can't come up with any last names now) from Lynn Kurland's This Is All I Ask (great story).

I actually had to look on my list of books I've read this year. Once I did that, I had several of those "Oh, Yeah" moments.

Hmmm, Hostage to Pleasure has such a nice ring to it...I don't suppose you'd be the lovely, sweet Nalini (I'd add more adjectives, but I don't want to be obvious :) we've come to know and love and tell us who exactly the hostage it...it could be Dorian? Now, wouldn't I just love to hold Dorian hostage...or even better, have him hold me hostage...OPPS! Slightly off topic - sorry! :)

I'm currently in the middle of reading Purity In Death and Roarke is a great hero. I like the way he knows what Eve needs...and the way his love for her catches him off guard. I've just finished The Black Jewel trilogy and Dreams Made Flesh (oh they were so good), I like Lucivar and Daemon.

I also love the Marquis of Brandon in Loretta Chase's Knave's Wager. Love with the heroine (whom he is trying to seduce for a bet) catches him completely off guard. Whoe else? The BDB...particularly Rehvenge (he's just evil :) Oh, and I couldn't forget Lucas. *SIGH*

I'm sure I'll think of more - in which case I'll be back :) OK, I'll be back anyway to see what everyone else has posted!

Derek Craven - EXCELLENT choice. I agree with you!

I have too many favorites to possibly list but off the top of my head -

Sam Donovan from Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard (perfect blend of strong, sexy, cocky, and tender).

Ryland Miller from Christine Feehan's Shadow Game (he give me the shivers - I like 'em a little rough around the edges!)

Cian MacKeltar from Spell of the Highlander by KMM. (He's a sexy brute!)

Tyberius Augustus Evans from Dara Joy's High Energy & High Intensity (yeah, I don't really need to explain this one do I? He's quirky, loving, rich, sexy as all get out, and the man has a brain that makes me hot. I can't resist him! LOL.)

OK, I'd better stop now or I'll keep going & going & going!

I love:
Matthew Farrell from Judith Mc Naught's Paradise.
Rogan Sweeney from Nora Roberts' Born in Fire
Rupert Carsington from Loretta Chase's Mr Impossible.

I tend to like heroes where its generally the circumstances (or a strong, stubborn woman!) that have affected them, and that they haven't behaved assholically (is that a word?). Except Rupert I just like cos he's incorrigible!(sp?)

And I have to say that I don't really like Derek Craven, sorry. :)

Hostage to Pleasure, huh? That's a dandy title!

Favorite heroes? My all time favorite hero is Royce Westmoreland from Judith McNaught's A KINGDOM OF DREAMS. Followed very closely by Dane Hollister from Linda Howard's DREAM MAN. I love alpha heroes, and both of them fit the bill perfectly!

I also like me some dark and twisty heroes, so I love Jack Seward from Connie Brockway's ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT. And I love Rhage from JR Ward's LOVER ETERNAL. Mainly because Rhage makes with the dirty talk, and well, that gets me every time! LOL!

Let me say that I love the Psy/Changeling series, and I can't wait for the next one ^_^

With that out of the way, my favorite heroes would be:

Acheron Parthenopaeus from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunters series, there's something about a viciously sexy, tortured god;

Dominic of Baminia from Christina Dodd's Someday, My Prince. I love his humor;

Wulfric Bedwyn, from Mary Balogh's Slightly Dangerous. I just want to thaw him out;

I agree with Matthew Farrell from Judith McNaught's Paradise, and also Cian, the vampire from Nora Robert's Circle Trilogy.

I haven't read Dreaming of You yet, but seems like a good book. I'll add that to my TBR list. Thanks for the tip ^_^

An official title, huh? Doesn't that mean we really need an official excerpt? I think it's a rule. ;)

Favorite heroes? Hmmm. Joe Mackenzie from Linda Howard's Mackenzie series.

Zarek from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters.

Pretty much all of J.R. Ward's brothers.

That's all that's immediately coming to mind.

I'm sure Dorian will be on the list, as are your other heroes. But, I'd need an excerpt to be really sure ...

Hostage to Pleasure? Can I volunteer to be Dorian's hostage? Pretty please? :)

I gravitate to the tortured heroes. The ones that have been so damaged and scarred by life that they don't really let anyone close to them - until they meet their heroine. Then there's such love that it's so beautiful. And you get that sense of....ownership, I suppose you could call it. The hero belongs to the heroine in a way he has never connected to anyone else. It's an incredibly romantic thing when you read it.

And getting to see the hero basically come back to life and experience the world with joy - just gives me that warm feeling inside. The emotional journey of the couple with all its hardships makes the ending far more satisfying.

Favorite heroes (or future heroes):

Dorian - yep, you knew he'd be on here and aren't you incredibly unsurprised?

Acheron from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters - you don't get any more tortured than Ash. He's so full of love and compassion and protects the world without asking for anything in return. His life is pure he!! and he's tortured internally and externally and the poor man needs to find someone who loves him unconditionally (who isn't family).

Zsadist from J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood books - a scarred, "ruined" hero, Z had me from Dark Lover. Watching him progress as the series continues is amazing and I look forward to seeing him and Bella in each book. Lover Awakened was such a beautiful story that it is hands-down my favorite romance.

Jonas Wyatt from Lora Leigh's Breeds - he's manipulative as all get out and he'll do absolutely anything to protect and ensure the better future of his species. That lion's mind is a labyrinth I would dearly love to go through. He's sexy as he!!, dominant, and there is definately a wall between him and the world that makes me want to see what he's hiding (and Lora's given us some glimpses of that).

Cabal from Lora Leigh's Breeds - another sexy as all getout alpha with an incredibly tortured past. I was looking forward to Tanner's Scheme mostly because I knew we'd get lots of Cabal time. Love the bengal :)

Sebastian St. Vincent from Lisa Kleypas's Devil in Winter - London's biggest rake, disillusioned and seemingly hard-hearted. But despite his attempts to keep his heroine at a distance and his pretense of being a cold ba***rd, he always respects Evie's intelligence, cares for her, and is absolutely wild for her even if he refuses to believe that he is falling in love.

Bowen MacRieve from Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series - I can't wait for his book to come out next week. Bowe is a Lykae who lost his mate centuries ago and has been searching ever since to find a way to bring her back. I can't wait to see what KC has in store for him.

Sin from Kinley MacGregor's Born in Sin - Rejected by his father, hated by his mother, despised by the court Sin's story is a heartbreaker. His love for Callie is absolutely beautiful and KM writes some scenes that make you want to go for the tissues.

Peter Jensen from Anne Stuart's Cold as Ice - Peter's a slightly different sort of breed from my usual heroes. He's a secret agent, cold as can be, threatens to kill his heroine more than once....but he can't. He should be really unlikeable, but I flat out loved him from the first.

This could go on for pages and I'm sure it's way more than you wanted to see already, lol.

Hope you're having a great week!!!!

"Hostage to Pleasure"... Love it. It make me want to jump up and down saying "take me, please take me!"

Favorite Heroes...

I have to agree with all of you. Lisa Kleypas' Derek Craven, Sherrilyn Kenyon's Ash, J.R. Wards Brotherhood, Karen Moning's Cian

Royce Powell from Animal Instincts by Gena Showalter. Love at first site, even decides his favorite color on from the clothes she was wearing the 1st time he saw her. *sigh*

Jack Norton from Conspiracy Games by Christine Feehan. Strong, silent, tortured.

Artur Loginov from Shadow Touch by Marjorie Liu. Tortured and in such need of loving.

Jude Lauren from Caressed by Ice by no other than our lovely Nalini.

Zsadist~ Redemption is always a favorite theme for me. I just loved him.

Derek Craven~Rough, wrong side of the tracks, big hearted, with the checkered past.

Royce Westmoreland~ I have to dig this book out again, it's one of my ALL time favorites. Thanks MaryKate for reminding me.

Colin. Demon Moon. 'Nough said.

Max Baghat~ older man/younger woman. I stuck with those doggone seal books (granted, I loved it) for a glipse of Max and Gina. I love to watch him succumb to Gina's wildness.

Ooooh - Hostage to Pleasure. Dorian can take me hostage any day of the week! :)

There are so many diffent heros I like, all for different reasons!

Wren from Unleash the Night - Kenyon's DK series. Tortured in childhood - feared in adulthood, but loves Marguerite so much.

Ash from Kenyon's DK series - just a great big sigh. Not enough space to talk about what I love about his character!

Ethan MacCarrick from Kresley Cole's If You Deceive. Love him!

Zsadist & V from JR Wards Black Dagger brotherhood.

I'm starting to see a pattern - strong silent types! :)

Kat - Sin and Jonas Wyatt are great calls. Sin is so sweet :) I'm also looking forward to Kit's story (if we get one). And as for Jonas....YUM (enough said :)

Jennifer - how could I forget the MacKenzies! Zane is my favourite, but I also love Wolf, probably because I can really relate to Mary (and no, I'm not a teacher :)

Definitely hanging out for Dorian, but other favourite heroes are:

Zarek, Vane and Wren - Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter, I do love tortured heroes!

Zsadist - JR Ward's BDB series

Lucian, Darius, Gregori and Vikirnoff from Christine Feehan's Carpathian series - they just sound plain yummy!

Rupert Campbell-Black - Jilly Cooper. RCB starts off as a complete and utter b@#$ard, but when he meets Taggy he just absolutely adores her. He's still an arrogant b@#$ard, but to everyone BUT Taggy.

The Bar Cynster members from Stephanie Lauren's Cynster series, up to and including All About Passion.

Favorite heroes?:) I'll list 'em first and then ..
Valerius Magnus-Sherrilyn Kenyon
Sin -Kinley MacGregor
Kivarrhis Tivahr/Branden KelPaten:Linnea Sinclair
Z-JR Ward
Garett Langham, Earl of Mayne-Eloisa James
Alec Knight-Galen Foley

Judd Lauren ;)
Che-Susan Grant
Marcus Westcliff/Jack Devlin: Lisa Kleypas(derek and sebastian are fab but not like these guys ;)
Matthey Knight-Pamela Britton:)
M'Cal/Artur-Marjorie M Liu
There are tons more, but you probably get the idea that I like heroes who go on journeys(suddenly discover there's more...), tortured heroes who slowly learn how to love and feel, or at least to come to terms with the fact they've already fallen in love ;)
