Greywalker - Kat Richardson

Have any of you read Greywalker by Kat Richardson? I picked it up because I found the concept intriguing. Here's the blurb I pulled off the author's website.
Recovering from a near-fatal accident, Seattle Private Investigator Harper Blaine develops the ability to move through the Grey: the realm of ghosts, vampires, witches, and magic that exists between our world and the next. Harper wants her life to return to normal, but when her clients turn out to be paranormal, the reluctant Greywalker is drawn into the affairs of ambitious vampires and angry ghosts. As her cases converge, Harper uncovers a plot that threatens Seattle's Grey world and must choose between honor and survival.

It was the idea of dying (the accident is technically fatal) and coming back as something a little different, that reeled me in. I'm glad it did, because I really enjoyed the mix of paranormal & good old fashioned detective work. There's lots more stuff to explore in this world so I went looking for what the author did with them in the sequel.

Happily, I liked Poltergeist even more than Greywalker. It felt as if Harper was a lot more comfortable with what she can do and the plot really zipped along. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book.

So, what's everyone else reading? Any recs? Hit me with them. (So I can add them to my ever-growing to-be-read pile!)

I loved Greywalker, I thought Kat Richardson's vampires were some of the creepiest and disturbing I've read. I have Poltergeist on my TBR pile and am hoping to get to it soon.

I think most of my recent reads have been either a)around for a bit or b) been mentioned here already.

But I'd recommend the following:-

Touch the Dark by Karen Chance - dug this out of my TBR pile after reading her short story in On the Prowl and loved it. Will be reviewing it on my blog soon. :)

Blood Drive by Jeanne C. Stein. I liked this much more than The Becoming which was the first book in the series.

Just re-read Ill Wind by Rachel Caine. I'd forgotten how much I loved this book. RC writes fantastic dialogue.

And I'm currently reading Unshapely Things by Mark del Franco. Which is Kelley Armstrong's bookclub pick for September. Haven't got very far with it yet though. Just the first couple of chapters.

Let's see, I suggest Lora Leigh's Tanner's Scheme. I love her breeds and this one is a good one. I also just read and enjoyed Lilith Saintcrow's Working For The Devil.

I enjoyed the Kat Richardson books a lot too, and second Lesleyw's recommendations. :-) I would also add: MOON CALLED & BLOOD BOUND by Patricia Briggs, SEBASTIAN & BELLADONNA by Anne Bishop, the "Kitty" books by Carrie Vaughn, MAGIC BITES by Ilona Andrews, and especially NIGHTLIFE & MOONSHINE by Rob Thurman (my favorites)! I could go on and on... :-)

I'm waiting for Robin McKinley's Sunshine to arrive. (It's a vampire book.) I've been enjoying the Queen of the Orcs series too.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I have both of the books listed on my to buy list.

I've been trying to get Greywalker from my local Borders. It's been a royal pain in the butt. I can't wait to read it though. I've heard nothing but good things about it. :)

Lesley - those all sound sooooo good. I need to learn to read faster!

Suzette - I adored Tanner's Scheme and cannot wait for Dawn's Awakening. But I really want Cabal's book. :)

Karen - I just came across Dreams Made Flesh! I was so psyched. I loved Anne Bishop's Black Jewels Trilogy and didn't know that she'd written this novella collection. It's fantastic. I'm going to blog about it after I finish reading it.
Haven't read Sebastian or Belladonna yet, but definitely will.

Scooper - heard a lot about Sunshine. Might have to give it a shot, too.

Kaitlin - If you like urban fantasy, I think you'll enjoy it.

xrdduHey Nalini,

I just finished reading Angela Knight's September release Warlord and it was really good. I'm not sure if it's released yet, though, it was a review book.

Yesterday I read one of my own books for a change - The Secret Passion of Simon Blackwell by Samantha James and that was just a *GREAT* read!

I have a couple of review books that I can't wait to read:
Karen Rose - Die For Me
Patti O'Shea - In the Midnight Hour
Catherine Spangler - Touched by Fire

I've never read Kat Richardson, I'll have to check her out!

Greywalker sounds very interesting. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

I recently finished Tanner's Scheme by Lora Leigh and Shadows on the Soul by Jenna Black in her Guardians of the Night series and The Gathering by Jennifer Ashley in the Immortals series. I also enjoy the Kitty series by Carrie Vaughn, the Undead series by MaryJanice Davidson and your Psy-Changeling series (have Caressed by Ice in my TBR stack)to name a few.

Karen ~ have you tried any of Patricia Briggs' other books? Some of them are good too.

Anyone liking urban fantasy I recommend Elaine Corvidae
>http://www.onecrow.net/Books.htm<
Her 'Lord of Wind and Fire' and 'Shadow Fae' trilogies are both really good, with both I'd advise you get hold of the complete series rather than read the them individually although they're technically standalones. She's also about to finish her free online sci-fi story.

HI everyone,

I have first time nerves, so apologies if I put my foot in my mouth :) I've never heard of Greywalker, but I'll be adding it to my TBR pile and it sounds fascinating. Tanner's Scheme is lurking too!

I've just read Scent of Shadows by Vicki Pettersson - it was very good! Next is Betrayal In Death - yes, I've been introduced to Eve & Rourke, although I've currently been sidetracked by Slave to Sensation...because after reading Carressed by Ice I had to go back to the beginning, which isn't a hardship at all *grin*

PS I'm waiting for Unshapely Things from the library LesleyW -my best friend recommended it. How are you finding it?

Orannia - I also loved Scent of Shadows.

Unshapely Things, I'm a few more chapters in. I'd just about decided it wasn't really working for me. I like stories about relationships - they don't have to be romantic, but the protagonist has to have something. And Connor was a bit empty in that department. Then suddenly it happened and I'm more engaged in the story. Mainly because of Joe. Joe is by far and away my favourite character in the book. He is funny and witty and sharp and whenever he's on the page the story is lifted to another level. So I'd say it has a bit of a slow start but stick with it. At least 'til the Joe, Tansy and cookies scene - which is very funny.

The cookies scene....now I'm intrigued! Oh, and I've been reading the Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine too - they are good.

Have you tried Urban Shaman (the first book in The Walker Papers) by C.E. Murphy?

Orannia - Yep, it was a while ago that I read Urban Shaman. I have the next two books in my TBR pile but haven't got round to reading them yet.
