Romantic Movies

Have you guys seen the movie Just Like Heaven? Most of the time I find that romantic comedies don't work for me on one level or the other, but not only is this movie funny, it's so sweet and so romantic that I just wanna go awwwww and smile...and then watch it again. It's that good.

I think Reese Witherspoon is an awesome actress (mental tangent: have you seen Election? Trust me, it's hilarious) and though I haven't seen much of Mark Ruffalo's stuff, he was great in this. They had onscreen chemistry and most important, they had the emotion. Loved it!

Seen it? What did you think? Any other movie recommendations?

I love this movie too, it is one of my favorites. I recently watched "Raising Helen" that is another great romantic movie so, if you haven't watch that one give it a try.

The last movie I saw was the Notebook. A really powerful movie I thought.
Our TV is on its last leg and we watch it so seldom, that I have given up on DVDs. I just like to read more, but the movie the Notebook was worth the time.

Election is indeed just a perfect little movie ... if you like Mark Ruffalo, I highly recommend You Can Count on Me, in which he starred with Laura Linney

I love Reese she is one of my favorite young actresses. I think Election is one of the few I have not seen yet of hers. I loved Man in the Moon (not the Jim Carrey movie). I thought she did a wonderful job in it. And I adore Sweet Home Alabama.

Barbara - I just looked up "Raising Helen" and it sounds great. I'll have to get it. :)

Susan - is the Notebook sad? It looks sad. I'm such a crybaby I'd probably sob my way through the whole film!

Reel Fanatic - thanks for the rec. I hadn't heard of that movie before.

Kris - I'm going to pick up Sweet Home Alabama next week!

Lol diagirl01 - I'm a bit like that too *g*

Yes the notebook is sad, but the love of the lovers is so really, from the moment they meet until the day they die. So while it is sad and I did cry, the other emotion is so real and true too! Well worth the crying.

Love that movie. Also loved Raising Helen and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

I really like 1995's "A Walk in the Clouds." Keanu Reeves is in it and I think it's one of his better roles.

Here's a summary for those of you who haven't seen it: After returning from the war (World War II), Paul and a young woman meet on a bus as she's headed home from college to help with the grape harvest and face her Old World domineering dad. The woman has not married but is pregnant, and she thinks her father is going to kill her. Paul proposes to pose as her husband to help her face her father. When their passion for each other is finally ignited and explodes, they realize they must overcome all odds to be together.

That one and "A Walk to Remember." But, "A Walk to Remember" is sad. Here's its summary. It's based on the Nicholas Sparks novel. Each Spring in the little port town of Beaufort, North Carolina, when the wind smells of pine and salt and the sea, Landon Carter remembers his senior year at Beaufort High and Jamie Sullivan, the girl who changed his life.

Jamie was the last person Landon was likely to fall for. Serious and conservative, she was as far from cool as she could possibly be, and didn’t care. The daughter of the town’s Baptist minister, Jamie was not afraid of letting people know that her faith was the most important part of her life, even if it cost her some friends. Landon hung with the in-crowd -- an aimless, moody, reckless guy who breezed through school on looks and bravado. He had no plans, no future and no faith in himself.

One night a prank that he and his buddies set up goes terribly wrong and lands a kid in the hospital. As punishment, Landon must tutor a young student at a poor school and participate in the Drama Club’s Spring play two activities the principal hopes will teach him some humility. They also happen to throw him into close contact with Jamie. Clearly in over his head, Landon is forced to ask her for help.

Soon, against his own expectations, Landon finds himself falling in love with this outwardly plain girl who possesses a passion for life he never imagined possible. But it isn’t easy. For reasons of her own, Jamie does everything she can to run away from romance until it becomes impossible to deny.

Being together will test everything that they believe in. Most of all, it will test the power of love and faith to transform a life into something worth living.

It is a great movie...I really liked it.

Have you seen "Sweet Home Alabama"?
And "The Devil Wears Prada"?
Both are pretty good.

And Reese Wintherspoon is too good!!!

I'm not much of a movie goer.

diagirl01 ~ 'While you were Sleeping' has to be one of my all time faves :)

Not seen 'Just Like Heaven' but it sounds a lot like a book by Marc Levy 'If Only it Were True' dunno if there's a connection there.

Clare - the movie's based on the book! I saw that bit in the special features.

Nalini!
If you don't like movies with a sad ending you should probably avoid to watch "Man in the Moon" I rented since it was suggested by someone and I ending crying not such a good thing for a romance movie. The movie was well done but th eending is really sad kind off like the notebook.
